Friday Night, Carlton vs Geelong

I admit I am just teasing the bad sports Carlton supporters. You know the ones that were booing all night about everything. I don't think we dodged a bullet per se as we played like shit for most of the game. Carlton played very well and were better than I thought they would be.

It seems we get opposition supporters throwing that up every week. At what point do we go from saying the opposition played poorly to Carlton forced them to play poorly?

Could be wrong but didn't interpet that comment in the way you have .

Thought the poster meant he was surprised at how good Carlton clearly are.

Where did he say Geelong played poorly?

But we did, so many dropped marks and just couldn't hold onto the footy, very fumbly. That could be pressure related, but it wasn't finals/Collingwood type pressure out there last night.

Meant to quote the previous sentence - you know, the one where he says Geelong "played like shit."

Oh you forced us to play poorly there is no doubt. You wont the Contested possessions, the clearances and the tackle count. We pulled that game out of our arse really. Carlton should have won no doubt. Geelong can play better than what they did, that is our point. They were as flat as a tack at the start of that game.

Never been so disgusted by footy fans as I was last night. Two particularly inebriated Carlton supporters behind me who thought it was the height of wit to mock Stokes' police troubles (literally said "Get off the Coke, Stokes!" over a hundred times), Paul Chapman's deceased brother ("Sorry about your brother, Chappy!") and Trav Varcoe ("Bloody abos!")

Seriously, I'm used to Carlton supporters (as a collective, there are fine individuals) hungering for free kicks more than any other lot (you'll never hear "Ball!" called more than at a Carlton game) but last night they were just feral. I sat in two different sections of the ground and in both heard nothing but horrible personal attacks about Cats players and crying about the umpiring. In contrast, not ONCE did I hear any of this from Geelong supporters.

Now, believe me, I know every team has them, Geelong certainly does, but I have never left a game feeling so appalled by the opposition. And I was standing among Collingwood fans last Friday.

Oh, so making fun of the dead and being racist is okay? Cool bananas.

I am by NO MEANS easily offended. Trust me. I just think some boundaries shouldn't be crossed in public, even at the footy. If you're happy to have people slagging off "Bloody abos" on INDIGENOUS round and making fun of a player because his brother died, I guess you just have thicker skin than I. I would've thought these are things general society wouldn't tolerate.

Who are you kidding, Carlton out played Geelong most of the game. Just about every stat says Carlton won the game. Geelong didn't win this game, Carlton lost it......... but that's normal for a young upcoming side. Carlton will learn from this.

Take a pill mate.

As you observed, all teams have them. Nobody likes them. We could have 200 threads a week about the disgraceful yobbo team (insert team) supporters behaviour at the footy. But it wouldn't tell us anything we don't allready know.

Get over it.

Pretty sure you can report them to security which will have them removed. No one wants to heard that sort of filth at the footy(except people doing the dirty talking) so just take a minute during quarter time or something and get them ejected. You will be doing a favour to the responsible Blues fans too, trust me. Nothing more cringeworthy than hearing some foul mouthed w***er at the footy, you turn to see who it is and he is wearing the same colours that you are.

Geelong's intent at the contest was down last night, which has been confirmed several times by Chris Scott and blatantly obvious to anyone who has watched Geelong's games in 2011 as a comparison. Our worst game this year as far as intent and work rate is concerned.

Should Geelong have won the game? No. Carlton haven't reached the point where they can put the best teams away, even on a bad night. Simple as that. They are improving though, it just seems that Geelong have trouble 'getting up' for Carlton games. See it however you wish.

..agree that especially in the first we were up as much as you guys were down.. ..however i think midway thru the 2nd and for most of the game were we on level pegging in regards to intensity and workrate..

..should have geelong won..?.. ..yes.. ..the game wasn't decided by an outside factor [neither team] like a bad ump decision of profound weight.. ..all game long both teams missed very gettable goals, some silly ump decisions and soft 50m's were handed out to both teams and kinda nullified eachother.. ..Knockers' miss seems significant due to the last minute, but as i said there's plenty of significant moments in a match..

..as for carlton not being able to beat the best teams [even on a bad night as you say], explain last year.. ..silly comment, if anything i think it's plainly obvious we're a better team this year, and given we beat you last season and the season before, and also the saints last season,, i think we've proven that we can beat top teams.. ..this season, our two losses have been vs the current top of the ladder team, and our only draw vs our immediate peer.. ..genuine top four contender..

What did I say? Congrats on the win. But I'm afraid we witnessed two ships passing in the night, or just about to.

Ah, sunrise, sunset.
We've improved by 38 points against Carlton in 12 months. ;)

Stuck in front of stupid Carlton supporters. Yeah, I know the type. The ones that yell for frees for their team even though they know they won't get it (or they are completely ignorant to the rules).

There were a couple of feral Cats fans behind me last night. Sort of lost a little bit of the enjoyability of the game. I just cranked Gerard Whately up to loud.

Sometimes though, you get angry because you want to get angry. In footy there are always people who go to the game who see completely the opposite to you (except maybe in PA games in Victoria). Just got to let it go or you'll find yourself getting more and more agitated and maybe just a little bit irrational merely in an attempt to disagree with the idiots behind you.

If you go to a game where your team is not playing this kind of behaviour is actually kind of funny.:D

It is just about perceptions at the time. Sometimes you are just unlucky to be sitting in the wrong place. Maybe a bay over you might have been disgusted by the comments of some of your own, you never know.

I can't see how any one group of supporters would call ball more than any other, however this too is cyclical. We finally have a team that tackles hard and often whereas a team that doesn't have a high tackle count obviously won't be calling ball as often. Ebbs and flows mate.

I agree that making fun of the dead is poor form. Carlton supporters copped it regularly in regards to Dick Pratt for instance. Pretty stupid if Carlton supporters were being racist towards Varcoe when he had 4 indigenous players in our team last night ourselves, and they also cop similar jibes. We can safely assume that idiots are idiots regardless of the colours they wear, and most of us don't want to be associated with this element.

Did you watch the game? BOG for mine, and for many others including the ABC and top three in the papers and on the Geelong Board.( in fact at last count ranked #1 )

Did all the hard under the pack stuff and was prominent in so many contests that you wonder how he kept getting there.

He's a star and hasn't put a foot wrong all season so far. Certainly one of the beneficiaries of Ablett's defection. Big show for AA.

Not sure about Best on Ground but certainly the most consistent Cat on the night. There was a blanket of players who all played well last night.

Selwood, for instance, had a great three quarters but fell away dramatically in the last quarter when the game had to be won.

Scotland will be a real show for BOG.
