Universal Love Frosty's Olympic Funtime in Tokyo - Covid Edition

Alrighty guys, this is your one stop shop for all things Olympics, i know we've got the random chat thread but I think this deserves it's own thread. I'm bored and with these lockdowns across the country currently going on, the Olympics couldn't have come at a better time to help cheer us up.

I'm going to try post a preview/review of each days events, an updated medal tally and just anything i can bothered to do that i think is worth it.

If you've been living under a rock, the games this year are in Tokyo.
Tokyo is a fantastic city, known for it's bustling city and large skyline.

Tokyo and Japan for that matter is home to some great food, who doesn't love sushi? So f'ing good man.

Japan is also the home of anime, a polarizing topic of debate, anime is basically adult cartoons that for some reason, every degenerate from the western world loves . I don't like it, never really watched it but i understand the culture and i like to take the piss out of it and i don't mind some hentai from time to time (don't search that up Pickitt) .You are welcome to speak like Gysberts2Bate and I have in the Other games threads and add -kun, -senpai, w's instead of r's, flushed faces, and whatever genuinely weird shit. In fact, it's not only welcomed but it is encouraged.

In these weird and terrifying COVID times, the Olympics will be a bit different this time around. Only a few people in the stands, very strict testing and quarantine conditions. It is probably even fair to place an * on the winners given how tough the preparation has been and the drama around it.

Australia is sending it's biggest ever team, with record numbers of women and aboriginal/torres strait islander people participating. That's a great achievement! 🥳

The opening ceremony is Friday night, with Paddy Mills and Cate Campbell our flag bearers for the ceremonies.
However, the team sports events have already started to allow athletes some rest in between games of course.
The Aussies are off to a flyer, with our softball team losing to a 'mercy rule' against Japan and with one of our equestrian dudes suspended for using cocaine, hopefully that didn't make you as mad as Toump Ass was.

The Matilda's are playing at 9:30 tonight against New Zealand.
All coverage is live and free on 7 and 7 plus, hopefully they run it all well.
Japan is only an hour behind us on the east coast, so no midnight sessions thank god.

Here is a link to the olympics site with all events, that's where i'll get my stuff from and plop it here for convenience. https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/en/sports/

Hope you enjoy!
Go Aussies or whatever country u r from!

Much love, Frosty <3

Matildas 2 - New Zealand 1
Cruisy win for our girls, 2 first half goals and then they got one in added time.
Sam Kerr MOTM, Goal and an assist.
Play Sweden and USA in the group, Top 2 teams in the world. Top 2 go through with the 2 best 3rd placed sides as well. As long as the other two don't choke vs NZ we're through and a real chance.
7 coverage is actually pretty good, 7plus app was fine for me, wonder how it will cope with more traffic.
Tomorrow is Australia vs Argentina in the men's soccer. We'll obviously lose that but the Olympics are only under 23's for men so who knows.

Yeah probably, although, the actual soccer nations don't try at Olympics and they don't even send their best under 23's. Different game in the Olympics. Also, what's the timing like for you in Canada?

Brazil won the last Olympics mate and we just suck at soccer these days.

****ed if I know lol. Know one cares about the summer Olympics here didn't even realise it was starting

Amusing story time, I had Japanese as a class in high school for year 7 & 8. Didn't pursue it any further after, anyway, our school did the exchange program with Japan and while in year 12 I walked up to one of the Japanese girls and said "Okaasan wa ju ni si des ka" (ive butchered that spelling no doubt) having no idea what it actually meant... I was pleased to find out my sentence of Japanese gibberish was " My mother is 10 years old?" in English...... its amazing what the brain chooses to absorb for use 4 years later isn't it?

Frustrating 2nd half , and giving up a goal right on full time not ideal . Will need to be far more clinical in front of goal if the matildas hope to go far in this tournament.
Went to bed at half time expecting to wake up to a 3-0 scoreline at least. Were all over them in the first half but stuffed a few chances.
Maybe we tanked the 2nd half? Commentators mentioned it's a small squad so need to manage effort/minutes.

Was more we created plenty of chances in the 2nd half but just couldn’t add to our score . Probably got tired late as well . Anyway other 2 teams in group will offer greater opposition than the kiwis I think .

Did any one else actually bid for the 2032 Olympics . Seems like the rest of the world don't give a sh*t .
I don't think they did. The shine really has come off the Olympics recently. I guess the trail of white elephant stadia around the world is proof it hasn't delivered many lasting benefits to the hosts.
Brisbane/Australia generally makes decent sense for hosting since we have a heap of decent sports infrastructure already so (ideally) won't need to build massive new venues for it.

This thread will singlehandedly bring the shine back to the olympics, i have it on good authority that President Biden is watching this thread and is ready to place a bid for the olympics until eternity

Was having a look at the events today and I had a look at the softball and baseball and I'm actually rather surprised that they are even at the Olympics. There are only 6 countries competing in the softball: USA, japan, Canada, Italy, Mexico, Australia. They all play each other once and then it's the medal games on the 27th.

I don't understand why they don't add more teams, split it into groups and have it run to later in the Olympics, or are there simply not enough teams to make it viable?
In that case, then why is it even an event at all if only a few countries can field sides?

Same with the Baseball but different 6 teams, obviously there is some qualifying stuff for them as they have a bigger reach but then why only 6 teams?

Just doesn't make any sense to me the lack of representation and the lack of competition. No wonder the US dominate, because half the time they're playing unopposed.

I forget what softball actually is. I think I played it, or some loose version of it, in primary school.

I want to see T-Ball in the olympics! For those that don’t know, T-Ball is kind of softball for the extremely uncoordinated
softball is women's baseball, not sure why women can't play baseball. bit weird. tball is goated.

T-Ball was ace! Remove the element of pitcher from the equation and I was suddenly a massive STAR. Only with no pathway to glory or options to monetise my talent

Argentina diving squad on the park . Well 1-0 to us lol
Spain and Brazil the only two countries with players who actually play for them in tournaments.
