Full Back.

...they're all hacks mate. You've got a long road ahead and with Matty Knights at the helm it will just mean longer
ERM? Why is a Melbourne fan bagging essendon?

Your club has no future. Barely any good youngsters most of them are overrated actually. Wait your whole side is overrated.

On topic, I think our options at the moment are Chartres, Johns, Lee, Danniher. If all else fails I think Johns will be an acceptable full back. If nothing else he is handy on our list in that I really believe he could hold down the positions if we have noone else available. He is strong, good kick, good accelaration, but he is also a strong contested mark as he has shown in the VFL. This year will show us if he can become acceptable but with a bit more fitness I think he will be okay. In the longer term, I'd love it if Danniher could develop into a more athletic FB.

As much as this will rile Merv, I hope he's given every opportunity to play key defense next season.

I think he can make it, but time will tell.

Hey don't worry about riling me, we are all entitled to our opinions, even if yours is wrong......:p

As for your above post, it is deleted to stop any more of the *** for tat, unrelated arguing.

Flashhh has been warned

I'm glad people have stopped talking up Ryder as a possible full back. At the start of the year was playing CHB/HBF and was playing really well, taking marks, attacking the game and beating opponents. Later in the year he seemed to play more and more out of the goal square, whether a tactic of Sheeds or opposition clubs dragging him there i don't know. I know though that it hurt his game, he lost confidence in his own ability to read the ball and take marks, started punching when he had the opportunity to mark the ball and to often got lost in this deep position. Hopefully Knights will have the brains to keep him up the ground where he is more valuable.
On principle Johns does have what it takes to become a 'zookeeper'. Quick on a straight line and strong, whether he can actually achieve it is a different story, will probably never be able to play on the more mobile FF though as his agility is terrible. Will probably turn out much like MM plays now.

Totally agree on Ryder.

He is not ready, and is wasted, in a lock down role and much better being used as a floating HBF/CHB where he can beat an opponant yet also provide good attacking moves along with great disposal.

Johns has got the makings of a very good full back.

Lets not forget guys like Glass and Rutten took a while to really hit their straps in that position.

You will see the best of CJ at full back in a few years time.

I agree 100% with this. I think Johns just needs to get more of the development years he missed into him.

I think he'll make it, and I'd love to see him develop into a very good full-back

Once again it comes back to Sheedy.

Johns failed as a forward, looked half impressive down back. Last year was the year for him to be played at CHB/FB for the entire seasonat Bendigo to assess his worth. Instead he plasy down back @ bendigo, and up forward for Essendon. Marvellous:rolleyes:

Leave Johns in the key post at Bendigo and let him develop. If he shows nothing, cut him, if he develops we may just have what we have never ever had, a player we recruited who is big and stong and plays down back.

And on Lee, while it doens;t look good, like the rest of the list, I thnk these guys need a chance to shine. If they don;t, they're gone, but some of you are starting to sound like the trolls on the main board.

Rubbish them once they have failed properly. Lee, like Neagle has been screwed over injury wise. Yet Neagle is praised and Lee bagged. And yes I knwo his VFL form was ordinary, but tell me if no players sturggle when behind the 8-ball. Reminds me a bit of Laycock. Alwasy bloody injured.

PS I hope Darcy becomes the equivalent of his old man (not making comparisons or trying to put pressure on him), but we would have an awesome defender if he had the ol Daniher spirit in him.

I agree with this.

Johns has already shown he can play the position at Bendigo and if we give him one more year there to fully understand what a good full back should do whilst Mal plays his last year, he can hopefully be a ready made replacement for Mal, with a bit more endurance.

Definately a make or break year and position for Johns.

We have given him the oppotunity and now its his turn to repay us.
