Very disappointed about Jakobi. Unless it was to do with injuries I just can't see how that is justified, he never got a chance and from what I have seen he had every chance to become a very good player

when Farmer got it, he had quite a good kick on him.. surprised with that amount of delistings that they didn't keep him.

makes Mortons trade for pick 79 look even more stupid if you ask me.

If we didnt trade him he was 100% on this list today, delisted.

So it makes absolutely no difference.

Nason, wrong place, wrong time. There were plenty to be delisted before him but he was out of contract.

2012 is looking like a mass exodus with players to delist just in time for the super draft. :thumbsu:

Connors, Gourdis, Graham, MacDonald, McGuane and White will all be gone unless their form changes dramatically.

Moore, Tuck and Derickx are others that will be looked at as well with injuries, age etc. factoring in.

I must be only one here glad to see Gourdis survive the cut. Can play just needs an opportunity. Whilst I understand Morton was to be delisted, I'd be keen to know why. I hear lots of uneducated opinion (here and media) about lazy, undisciplined, poor defensively etc. Not sure any of that has ever come straight from coaching staff. Bit surprised by a couple of others, however, change is inevitable and in order to create opportunities for kids like Helbig, MacDonald etc others had to be moved on.

Right so it can only be an educated opinion if we're blindly blowing smoke up his arse? Please.

Coaches very rarely come out and will rip a player in the media because it simply doesnt work and is unprofessional. The critical feedback belongs and should stay behind closed doors.

Pretty disappointed about contin being let go, he put together a couple of 30+ disposal games in the vfl which should have warranted a call up to senior level IMO

totally gobsmacked that we can only delist 3 from the list proper.
and we cut nearly all the rookies in a yr we should not be taking too many rookies because of depth in the drafts.

for me in order, ignoring contracts on who should go.

taylor gone.
nason gone,
farmer gone
mcguane contracted.
morton gone,
white contracted.
graham contracted.
edwards contracted,
webberley uncontracted
connors contracted
thursfield uncontracted.
jackson status unknown uncontracted i think.
king contracted.
moore retired in all likelyhood.

those still in development possibly in the gun.

derickx - not a kid i know but we all know the circumstances.
gourdis - must now step up a bit.
browne - well i think him safe for 2 yrs. if he stagnates will be in trouble.
macdonald - will need to show a fair bit more did have injury probs this yr.
post - like others really needs to go up to the next level.
griffiths - is one who will come under real pressure if he does not take a step up.

others who i think are ordinary and would not take to much of a drop away to see them in trouble and those who have been okay but have to maintain the higher level
nahas -. a good yr still i think him a very average player.
tuck - at 31 will be in the gun every yr from now on
rance - yep everyones favorite player still has a long long way to go and he needs to improve the weaknesses in his game. any slip back will have him in the gun.
grigg - for me a very disappointing player.shoddy kicking and an approach that borders on soft.
houli - must maintain this level and must continue to improve the defensive side of his game.

yes all of them were good this yr but that has not been the norm they have to show they can continually perform at an acceptable level. if they dont they deservedly will go into the gun.

finally rookies in order of delistment.
hislop
westhoff.
hicks
miller
contin
orielly
jakobi.

can understand why they all have gone with the exception of jakobi.obviously miller is still there for obvious reasons.

to cut just 4 from such an ordinary list is a disgrace.
its also a disgrace if we fail to utilise the psd pick and target one of the many mature players that should be available to us with a late pick.
why we continually hang onto such ordinary players is beyond belief.

I like how claw says that it is a poor draft but we should have more picks in it. We have players who would be gone if not for having a contract so all that means is they get de-listed next year and we can have a bunch of picks in a good draft.

FWIW i think Jakobi has same injury as Caddy from memory. Has had it for ages and still struggling. Santa what would you like us to do? If we dont think we can get something better with a pick in the 70's what's the point? I also think we start Pre-season training before final list lodgement so Moore may try to come back to training and if he fails he will retire. Thursfield was good at the end of the year. We will cut at least 8 IMO next year for the good draft and Free Agency etc. We will be extremely cashed up next season.

Well said. Why waste FTF money to replace with a speculative kid that must get 2 years. Wait a year and get a better kid in. We will still have 12 new players next year. Maric/Morris 3 draft picks and 7 rookies.

I love how claw has no idea.

Thanks for the service boys, but no real surprises there. The question remains whether there will be more delistings to come. You'd think we would want at least 3 picks in the ND and keep the PSD free.

The club may feel that with a supposedly shallow draft they have as much chance of picking up a player in the rookie draft as in the wrong end of the ND, and are holding off on more delistings until next season, or at least until they get a better idea of who may be available in the PSD.

whos talking about speculative kids. i reckon you have read enough of my posts lately to know ive strongly advocated a combination of kids and mature players.
i can think of three players who would likely be available to us with picks 73 79 and psd who while probably not world beaters would be upgrades on players we have retained.

and surely if next yr is a deeper draft than this yr which is supposedly shallow it would be better to fill the rookie list up with picks next yr after all the rookie draft is basically just an extension of the nd.

so we have maric 26yo, morris 22yo, pick 15 18yo, pick 26 18yo, pick 55 18yo
73 horsley 23yo, carnell 23yo, and psd pick on someone like tom lee 20yo.
i will say now horsley and carnell are better players than white jackson edwards webberley farmer connors and others. do we want a big bodied kpd go and give wilkes a go for thursfield. what is there to lose.just a very late pick with the worst that can happen is we replace a dud with a dud.
why do we insist on hanging onto such underperformers. surely it is better to give someone else ago.

as for next yr, as so many rose coloured glasses wearing people have told me you cant delist 15 in one go.

use a couple of rookie picks to go with heslin and miller.

Remember we may pick some of these guys back up as rookies again.
Could be giving a couple of them a bit of a kick up the ass to see what results we get

Surprised to see so many rookies go in one lot, only Miller left I think if he chooses to stay. Thought O'Reilly, Jakobi & Contin would be safe.

I realise that too but maybe that's why they've culled 6 rookies. Heslin will take the spot already not being taken. Miller already has a spot. So 6 spots left. Can see us taking a young ruck, a young small forward, a young KPP and 3 mature players. I also was speaking to u last night about Horsley who id like in the main draft at 55. He will probably be gone to the bummers but if he's there we should go for it. Add a mature player like Macaffer in the PSD and that's 4 mature bodies added to the main list and 2 young kids. And 3 kids and 3 mature players added to the rookie list on only 1 year deals. If mature player stinks it up then get some new ones next year rather than being stuck with paying out contracts this year then having blokes on 2 year deals that we cant get rid of next year.

whos said its a poor draft. not me bud. many others have said that.
me i keep on advocating we participate poor or not.
now assuming it is a poor draft why would we utilise the rookie draft so heavily.
why not get in before hand and use late picks this yr instead.
and if it is a poor draft those in charge should know why not use late picks on older players from minor leagues. does any one use just a bit of common snse around this place.
at the end of the day, nearly all rookie picks are retained for two yrs anyway just like a late pick is.

They may get kept for 2 years but its not a requirement like a main list player unfortunately. There are still more delistings to come. We have added 2 players and only delisted 4. We need an extra pick. We should have 8 delistings next year so that can make u happy :D
