Nothing has "happened"

It's a lesson for some people (especially a particular poster...) on this forum not to blow their load over a few marks in the SANFL u/16's and put these kids on a pedestal before they are really settled in the talent order.

Not everyone has the talent, drive etc to be in the top 0.1% in the country to make the absolute top level, especially from the most competitive underage league in the country. Which is OK

I actually really hope we let him play local footy without critiquing every appearance in local footy this year on this thread. Like we have done with other F/S prospects not near the grade in the past.

He hasn't made the squad = nowhere near draftable. I.E we don't need weekly commentary on him.

Just leave him alone (not angled at you btw...)

Do you know if he is playing school footy at all?

Surprised he didn’t just stay over in the SANFL, plenty of kids gets drafted out of there and you have the opportunity for senior exposure too.

River Stevens (son of Anthony) has been named to debut tomorrow for the Geelong Falcons. He is eligible for next year's draft.

nice touch by foot, certainly looks bottom age in physique, so hopefully puts on a bit for his senior year

 

[Mixed Results]

This is my cut of his first half. In the second half his TOG was a lot lower and was barely sighted. His TOG was low in the first half too. You notice that some of these clips are bunched together. When he was on he usually was getting involved pretty easily in a side that had control of the game. The camera work on the third clip is poor, but I believe he intercepts the kick in and sets up the goal with a handball.



There's definitely a footballer here. The biggest critique would be a lack of composure, especially with his snapping for goal, but it's acceptable given the circumstances. In that final clip you see him take his time and he nails the kick to a man in front of goal. I liked most how he lead to the ball carrier up the ground, since none of our current forwards do this. Good enough athlete for the AFL, but not elite. Some good pressure work during the game as well, which I left out of my cut. It's not a bad effort for a sixteen year old kid.

Roughly 40% of these u15 school sports state rep sides generally get drafted a few years later.


Will Phil, Lazzarro, Bruhn, Ward, Hollands etc played against Thilthorpe, Powell, Roberts, Durdin, Baldwin in these games in their draft year in the Vic vs SA game.

On some further review, he finished second in the EDFL Div 1 League B&F in his age group (u/14's) last year, so definitely one to watch.

He's also playing u/16's Div 1 EDFL this year (up an age group) and was best on ground in his second game at the level on the weekend.

I'd say we will see him feature in the Calder Cannons development squads as early as next year going off that EDFL CV.

Libba, Wallis and Hunter all played their footy at St Kevins and were part of their APS flag. Happens quite a bit with SKV's, they get them in in Year 9/10 for their football pursuits.

George Wardlaw was a De La Salle boy before going across to St Kevins.
