Interesting to think about whether our greater ever player would want his son playing with us. Default logic says yes, but given the circumstances of his departure, I can see him wanting his son to play at a club where there is less of that baggage to carry every day.

TLDR - prepare yourself for the inevitable let down in 18 years!
Different situation but wasn’t that the request of Jimmy Krakeour at the time of his son’s draft time, due to Jimmy’s jail time etc? That was more to take the pressure off Andrew

I would think 100% Duck’s kid will not nominate to play for North…….Carey will carry a grudge to the grave IMO.

I do believe young McCartney will choose to join North as a FS. Fyi &fwiw
We are certainly putting the work in.
from centralrookieme dated 31 july

Aidan McCartney (Swans Academy/NSW-ACT)
Tall Forward | 190cm | 04/11/2008

McCartney is one of the many promising club-tied players for 2026, with father Jason‘s 107 games for North Melbourne making Aidan father-son eligible for the Roos, as well as being linked to Sydney’s academy. The 190cm forward spearheaded a rather tall Swans outfit at the National Championships, booting over two goals per game as a reliable marking target inside 50. He slotted set shots and was quite mobile on the lead, looking to grow into a genuine key position talent.

So would Aidan and Sam Harris be in the same year?
Sam Harris (2026)
Aiden McCartney (2026)

Its in the spoiler in the pinned post.

Any decent River Stevens highlights?
from centralrookieme on last week's game

Geelong Falcons 12.10 (82) def. by GWV Rebels 14.11 (95)

GEELONG FALCONS:

#6
River Stevens
Small Forward | 176cm | 26/06/2006

Stats:
13 disposals, 3 marks, 4 tackles, 1 goal

Stevens impressed once again with his pressure game and hardness at the footy, burrowing down at ground level and throwing his 176cm frame around. The North Melbourne father-son hopeful set the tone with a strong tackle in the early stages, and went on to be a busy operator in the high forward role. He held his own over the ball and wore contact relatively well while also dishing out his own hits. Stevens bagged a running goal in term two to momentarily take the lead before half time.

Unusual for a kid to be shorter than their parents these days.

fair point - I thought the match report for him reads pretty well; if you're going to be 176, you still have to ride the bumps.

I saw his first game in the nat champs (I don't think he played again) and while not in the top tier of small fwds, he did nothing wrong. From memory, Berry and Alger were both in the Vic Country side, so he was squeezed out on that account, rather than outright non-performance
