So judging from Ameet's email, it doesn't seems like Egan will have a match day role and is more or less there to take the load/support both Bevo & Grant.

“with two new development coaches and a goalkicking coach to be appointed in the near future.

Separately, the Club will in coming weeks also finalise the appointment of two other senior roles critical in supporting our players and program, namely a new Head of Physical Performance and a new Chief Medical Officer, following the respective departures of the long-serving and well-respected Matthew Inness and Dr Greg Clugston.”

Still three senior coaching announcements to be made. Looks like we couldn’t retain Martin, Varcoe gone.

“Goal kicking coach” is another way to say “forward coach” without firing Spanga’

I think this is good, but it does effectively mean we’re -1 assistant on last year.

Pratt replaces Smith, the 2x development coaches mentioned replace Varcoe and Stef. Goalkicking coach is a specialist and I would assume part time.

Has Webb’s role just been absorbed into Lade’s?

Egan now (officially) confirmed. Coaching and Performance Manager
It’s not 100% clear how far “coaching manager” role extends ie whether he has some influence over Bevo. Is there an established model for this or have we just invented a new title? The dynamics will be interesting to watch if we’re given any insights during the year.

Could Egan be a candidate for head coach in 2026 (or even earlier if things don’t improve)?

I'd say that's correct in regards to Webb's role. I mean midfield and stoppages would have significant overlap anyway. I'd love to be able to bring in a recently retired player (like a Joel Selwood) to support this area of the ground.

Email from the CEO has some interesting points too:
  • Egan also supporting Grant in some administrative roles
  • Pratt also "defensive system" coach
  • Goalkicking coach incoming!!!
  • Two new development coaches coming, as well as high performance manager and chief medical officer
Dickoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Eddie Betts would be a great goalkicking/development coach

I remember someone on this board mentioned Barry Hall as a coach not too long ago, which I was thought was pretty random but maybe he is the goal kicking coach?
As long as he doesn't get onto a mic

Would want the head of Physical Performance in pretty quickly. Not long till pre season starts and desperately need to get a program sorted that’s significantly better than the last.

Dickson is noted for the accuracy of his kicking for goal.[3] He was the most accurate of all AFL players in 2019, and the third-most accurate since 1965.[
doesn't mean he would be a good coach though

what worked for him might not work for others

AFL article mentions we're working through a shortlist for the role so you'd imagine it's not far off.

I am stoked. With Pratt and Egan joining Lade we now have the making of a decent footy department. This can make a massive difference.

Fascinated by Egan's role: "This newly created position will closely support Senior Coach Luke Beveridge in a coaching capacity and will oversee the development and growth of the entire coaching team. The position will also see Matthew perform a range of administrative functions in supporting Executive Director of Football, Chris Grant, on broader football program activities."

Reading between the lines it looks to me that he will report directly to Grant, and have a critical say on the key aspects of the footy department.
