Poor B. Once again they throw the person with the least to answer for out to respond. This grinds my gears too.

Captain is the mouthpiece of the players typically. So while he personally has the least to respond to, players elected him their leader, yet must be the talking head. In these instances it's usually coach (but he did post game presser), Footy Dept boss (did SEN), president/CEO (where are they?) or captain. Not surprised about this in the slightest tbh.

I don't have links to current players, but same as last week have heard from a family member of a staffer that there are obvious issues post-match, some players notably avoiding each other, and (allegedly) stems back to even wins where positions in the circle were adopted to ensure some weren't next each other, and again allegedly, in one instance 2 players ended up looking decidedly uncomfortable as they did end up together! (No names provided, and also sounds 'high school drama-ish', but some of these guys are still relatively young, and not sure being paid so well and being in a bubble to a degree is a great pathway to real world maturity - sure they get media training, etc, but the degree of adulation, eyc surely can't be beneficial in many cases.) Anyway, I'm getting this second hand, and the perspective of one person, so grain of salt, etc.

Knowing your pragmatism and objectivity - or at least what you project in an anonymous forum! 😆 - I'd recommend watching it for context.
That would explain the enormous gap that Gawn and Jackson tapped the ball in to in the 2021 Grand Final for 50 minutes without one of our players putting their body there. Our midfielders hate each other that much they stand at exactly the furtherest points from each others creating 3 certain points to tap to space.

Sacking Bevo this week does nothing but scratch an itch for angry supporters.

If it’s going to happen I do not want it being just a reaction to a bad loss. It’s not like there’s some golden candidate we are likely to miss out on if we wait a few weeks.

It's not going to be a reaction to just one solitary bad loss. Rather 4-5 bad losses that we could have avoided. Bad losses that could have been prevented had we had different ideas and smarter decision makers (For example "don't just throw Rory Lobb down back just for the sake of it"

Had we won several of those winnable games but still lost to West Coast i think our supporters would still be very frustrated but would view it as "maybe the kick in the backside we need before finals"

But its not, its a repeat pattern of opposition transitioning from defence to offence to easily, letting opposition mids get off the chain, random team selection, random in game changes that are ridiculous and some important players going backwards this year.

It's not just a reaction to one bad loss. At all.

* he's good

He is.

I know it's not even an option, but he could have stood there, held his hands up for silence to pre-empt any questions, said:

"Look Liber and I are actually quite sick of carrying some of these campaigners - both on field and in the box - so I'll be starting as sub next week by my own choosing, so let's see what the rest of the team can serve up.
Go Dogs, love youse all..."

Then turn on his heel and stride away, singing the club song loudly in the vein of "If I were a rich man"...

For those giddy optimists still invested in this season, there's a deliciously unfair kind of irony inherent in the fact that this week--of all weeks--when the stakes are at their highest, we just happen play our biggest bogey-team ever on their home deck. But for the remaining realists, there exists an even greater irony that besting this now-vulnerable team that has haunted our dreams for years on end will now not only mean nothing to our season, but will actively ensure that the utter egotism, incompetence, and nepotism that has infected our great club for so long now continues for at least another year.

Yesterday was more than a bad loss. The team tanked. It was as clear as anything Melbourne or Carlton did. Broken tackles, missed handballs and other basic skill errors. The players have checked out.

We all know he loves the underdog story.

It’s actually all a genius scheme to have to whole world write us off then go on a tear to the flag.

Starting with winning at a place we haven’t in 20 years to light the fire.

Hawks and eagles wins wouldn’t have done it justice.

Just heard a rumour that Damien Barrett has had a throbbing erection for the last 24 hours that he can’t get rid of for some reason

Anyone who has ever watched that idiot knows he can't perform- so I call BS on that alone.!

Anyway his testicles retracted so far at a certain Brownlow count that he has since looked like he has 4 nipples.

It should be Bevo, he gets paid the big bucks.

The Bont should never be the face of a complete s**t show.

Battles his guts out all year and then they send him out to face the music. This club is extremely disappointing on so many levels right now.

Leftfield idea, but wasn't he going to be St Kilda's football manager/director of football before we swooped at the end of 2014?

We sign a new coach for next season, Bevo moves to Chris Grant's director of football role with a unique insight into the pressures of a head coach.
That reduces the payout that would be required to move him on.
Then we start 2024 with a complete clean slate of coaching structure/staff
I like it because it sort of overcomes one big reason why we won't take the necessary action now.

However I think Bevo needs a break. He's a decent bloke but I think he's going under with all the pressure, much of which stems from his own past actions and decisions.

If he is highly stressed then he's not the right bloke to take on an entirely new role further up the hierarchy. Maybe in 12 months ... but that doesn't really solve our current problem.

In fairness, Bev has already done a presser and Grant has already been on radio. Given they’re going with a full on media response it makes sense for Bont to also speak and put supporters a bit more at ease. He’s the best representative the club has.

The only person left we could hear from is Bains. Not sure I need to hear from him as well.

I think that role would suit Bevo, but not at this club. That would be the easiest way to create a weird, strained relationship between a new head coach and a Football Director. There is no planet where I could see that working harmoniously.

I'm not sure they hate each other's guts (as much as that phrase takes me back to my youth!). The description I had was more awkwardness, not dislike or similar, but again is second hand, and one person's interpretation of body language. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has heard similar.
If it's a temporary thing that can be repaired - by Bevo or someone else, no biggie IMO. But if it festers and grows.... 😟

I know that old crone Wilson, made a comment on her show a few weeks ago, that Dunkley said there is cliques at the club.

It's as bad as I thought - or worse. How do you fix a team that isn't unified and some hate each other guts? Why wasn't this bleed stopped after it started with Hunter Dunkley? We are stuffed.
The way it was put to me by a player (who was rolling his eyes) was that you always have to manage player factions. A lot of the players are barely out of school and act accordingly, and then you have the big issues like Stringer etc.

Every club has the problem. Whether it’s a critical issue for us is hard to tell.

Well BT could always ask Bains' son what school he goes to? Not sure that question, or the answer, did anyone any favours tbh. (Not trying to start a class/school war, was just a completely pointless question.)

It’s actually the last two years that we have witnessed this decline.

He's the club's last remaining PR ace (at least on the men's AFL side of things). Has to carry the sins of the players, the coaches and the administrators ... and still go out and play a game of footy. I hope he has strong shoulders. That he's even in the running for a Brownlow is pretty amazing.
