Not everything Bevo has done for the club is bad. We after all had our assistant coaches sought after by other clubs.

Thats the problem though.

Perhaps the penny pinching of the club that allowed these guys to be poached may've exposed the emperor as having no clothes.

Until a week ago I'd never doubted his man management skills, something that was integral to the phenomenon of 2016. However in the last couple of years it's becoming increasingly apparent that he's run out of coaching ideas. Something glaringly apparent when he bizarrely and in an off handed way as a means of deflecting his own performance threw a list that he is responsible for building under the bus.

How much of his tactical nous can be attributed to others, we'll never know.

Weightman has easily fixable flaws? I wonder why they haven't been fixed yet then. Macrae is cooked as a player for us. Not saying he isn't a good player but he is surplus to our needs.
I would suggest Weightman is a role player, but isn't really playing his role. JOD showed some nice things in his first season. He will improve massively going forward.
I agree generally on our bottom 6-8 players, they are very poor and are close to the worst in the league. At least of the competitive teams.

If he’s there next year I seriously don’t think I’ll pay any attention at all. I’ve never been this down on them. I feel completely unattached at this point. When the coach is on the tv saying he has trepidation before playing the bottom side for a chance to play finals, well frankly, they’re taking the piss.

After this seasons AA selections we will have 6 recent AAs in the side. Outside of them we have two super exciting gun young key forwards and a great young small forward, one of the better 2nd ruck/fwds in the league, a great full back and a gun medium defender. One of the best young mids in the game prior to this season & another very good experienced one in Treloar. Solid role players in West, Williams, Doc, JJ.

That’s a pretty *ing solid starting 18 mate, the fact they’ve underperformed dramatically is on the coaches. There’s a few holes sure but you’re kidding yourself if you think that core of a side isn’t a finals side.

On paper it is talented. But in reality who can you trust to actually play to the required level on a week to week basis? Bont, libba and Jones. That's about it.

Been saying it for ages, but the issue with the playing group is all mental.

I love that Bont has levelled up his leadership this year. He's been fantastic in that regard this year after some question marks previously, but who else is helping him in that area? Nobody.
We're mentally weak when pressure is on, we have some players that are scared of contact/physicality, some that are a bit selfish in how they play and quite a few that shit themselves in front of goals. These are all mental aspects of the game.

I'm not saying the coaching has been good this year. It hasn't. Bev has lost the plot and is a shadow of a spectre of his former self. But the mental fragility of the playing group has been evident for a long time... Even in 2021 when Bev got them up and about for 3.5 weeks of football. The implosions at the end of the regular season, and the GF were clear indications. At some point some responsibility must go onto the players themselves, they can't be depending on the coach to inspire them week to week to play at the required level.

Is that he's reduce the amount of jumping into Naughton and Marra pack marks

More focus on staying down and being that small forward role

If he bases his game on Jamie Elliot, he gonna be a avg 40+ goal kicker

I haven't looked into it, but was wondering if we have to pay Bevo the full amount plus soft cap tax on top of that, plus the wages of a new coach do we have to pay soft cap tax on top of that wage as well? And if so how much would you estimate that would be all up? I'm thinking a lot?

Agreed to a degree on this one

We did suffer Soft Cap issues with Covid and Bevo big extension

Though its not a full excuse esp when Melb signed Richardson during our hiring of Spangher irrc

All very fair, can’t disagree with any of that - although I think when you’re talking about a group of 30 odd people this starts at the top and filters through, when your head coach is coming out before a game against the bottom side showing concern about how they’ll perform, or just showing a complete lack of enthusiasm and downright disregard to everyone and everything and complaining about how many times we’ve been wronged constantly, I think this stuff has an effect on the players too. We have lost a lot of good leaders and need to strengthen this part of the team no doubt.

There’s also the fact that there’s zero accountability in this team because they’re all safe as flipping houses in their positions, we dropped one somewhat name player this year in Lobb (and it worked) - that’s it, not a single other best 22 player was dropped for underperforming.

Maybe some of these guys are mentally weak, maybe soft, maybe just going through the motions because there’s no real motivation anymore - I’m not sure, but I’m not really willing to judge a large group of people too harshly under this current management.

No they shouldn’t have to be motivated to perform every week but they do need to be set up to win, and that’s not happening - it must be an absolute grind to rock up to this club every day because **** me it’s a grind to watch one day a week and listen to one press conference of Bev a week.

I’m willing to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and see how they perform under a new and improved regimen - and if the same issues persist then sure start cutting through the list in a big way.

Until he learns to play as a "small" forward then he is a role player. He plays as a short kpf.
Going for marks when he should be front and square. When Naughton, Lobb, JUH, English bring it to ground he should be under their feet.
