Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

A cursory glance at the ladder and fixture would indicate it’s almost a certainty that we’re finishing bottom 6-8 unless there is an enormous turnaround in approach and form.

My bet is we’ll be 14th at the bye - above only WC/Hawks/Tigers/North. If that eventuates that’s an absolute disaster.
Whats worse is we have no first round pick to go with finishing that low either.

I just go to the games these days and have no care factor. I have accepted our board and President are incompetent and to weak to act. The club is and always will be a battling club. Bevo will not resign so he needs to be sacked. The sooner the better. The bye is too late in the season. I preferred the MCARTNEY years and they were bad. At least the players were coached to be ruthless.

KWW is head of Disney ANZ and ESPN Asia Pacific. No one gets to that position without being ruthless. She might smile, look nice and speak softly, but make no mistake about her being ready to knife people if it is the right thing to do.

Seems like the list is the problem to me.
She’s literally a Mickey Mouse president.

The same list Beveridge has had license to shape to his liking for 7 years now?

I don’t know if that is completely true.

The McCartney saga was handled far worse than this. Didn’t act until the captain asked out. Fortunately we were bailed out by Bevo. Can’t remember it perfectly but I feel like Eade’s exit was a bit of a shitshow too. Think we’re just bad at coaching changes.
McCartney was also signed to an extension before he was sacked/‘resigned’ but never coached a game of it.

Griffen was the straw that broke the camel’s back but Higgins and Jones had also walked because of him and Picken, Boyd and Morris had question marks over their futures.

It sucks to be in a funk like this but people have short memories if they think this is anywhere near as bad as 2014.

The Rocket thing was protracted throughout the year. Left Williams to coach a handful of games. Made a prelim the year before so deserved some time. To be honest I think he was stiff, but given how bad we were for the following few years I doubt he would have survived if re-signed.

There were whispers that Wallis was about to leave too. Even Wallis. That's how bad it was.

All of that is terrific for her. That’s her career that she has been hugely successful in. Good on her.

This isn’t her career though. This is our footy club and at the moment it’s going very poorly and I see no emotional investment or connection to the club from most of the board.

I’m not saying they all need to be Gordo, past players or flogger waving nuff-jobs, but give us something please.

Replace the entire board if you wish, but it won’t change anything.

McCartney had retired Matty Boyd (need I remind you a 2015 All-Australian, irrespective of the coach that got that out of him in a new position, it proves that Boyd sitll had that footy left in him). That pissed off Boyd so much that even if McCartney had changed his mind and kept him on, Moyd had already moved on.

The fact that McCartney thought that he didn't have anything left to offer the club shows you how poor of a senior coach he was, irrespective of whether he did/didn't people manage very well.

Still being in those roles likely means that she doesn't have the necessary time that our club needs/deserves

She's been invisible as president

Yep, it was quite an amazing period. It’s incredible how quickly things turned around and Bevo deserves more credit than anyone else for the turnaround. A period like that could really sink a lot of clubs.

But yeah, Griffen went to the higher ups and told them that there was a rift between the playing group, that a lot of the older guys didn’t like him and that a lot of the younger guys didn’t like him and the higher ups still decided that McCartney should stay on as coach, so I’m not sure its fair to say that those guys would have made the move by now in the current scenario.

I don’t fully remember the Rocket exit, I just sort of remember it being messier than it probably needed to be. I loved Eade and Eade’s teams but I think the decision to move on from him in 2012 was probably the right one. The team was going into a fresh era and it sort of made sense to have a fresh start as coach. I just vaguely remember there being a really weird press conference and we were sacking him but trying to say that we weren’t sacking him (presumably out of respect) and it just seemed to sour a few relationships.

I’d love someone write some fan fiction of Bevo going in to his 2022 post season review with Bains and KWW expecting to get a blasting for scraping into finals by 0.1% and then the shocking second half turnaround against Freo, only to somehow walk out with a commitment to load up with Lobb and Jones and a multi-year contract extension with no termination clauses for failing to make finals

… and just before Bevo signs on the bottom line, realising he’s somehow got us over a barrel, he turns to Bains and says “…and tell Sammy Power he needs to give Gardy a 3-year extension too!”

Agreed. I think it’s easy for people to look at our on-field issues and try to loop it back to KWW.

What KWW does vs the performance we have on game day are so far removed that it’s not even comparable.

As unusual as it sounds, despite our field issues, the organisation as a whole as never been better than it has right now. We have never been so profitable, the club is making money faster than it ever has, and probably comes down to KWW.

Would it be nice to have some on-field success along with it? Of course.
But we are a long way off the worst position we could be in as an organisation.

Oh the tales are quite something.

Wood and Picken were told they were lockdown defenders or nothing. Even Bob Murphy was considered gettable by other clubs.

During the McCartney era I generally posted in support of giving him a chance but had concerns from very early on (his press conferences were nonsensical and we could only beat the likes of the expansion clubs and Melbourne early).

Hilariously he had some shockingly rusted on support on this board and anyone who raised concerns was on the receiving end of vitriol. It would be poor form to bring up names (and one or two are current mods).

Genuinely he was one of the worst appointments in the club’s history and could seriously have destroyed us.

She's been invisible as president
The President's role is to make sure the club is financially strong and to chair board meetings. The executive are there to run the club and report to the board inclusive of football operations.

Not sure you have noticed we have never been financially stronger and like most President's these days they let those from the executive do the talking

I think the problem is off field we are managed great, like the new facilities are great, we are profitable and have smashed membership records which is great

The football side though is dire, our list management has been abysmal, recruiting has been horrible, coaching has been horrible and game day we don't know what Bulldogs side is going to turn up. The board has got to get it's head out of the sand and realise sooner or later these on field performances are actually going to hurt us off field too. We have done so much work to get into 50kish members the last couple of years, however if the fans start to turn and the results drop off they way it looks like they are dropping off we could see that number decrease instead of going up
