It's a fascinating study of both language and sociology. Its meaning and usage has now splintered in many different directions depending on country and context.
This is worth a read if either of those aspects interest you.
In my case both do, so I couldn't resist the bait!
It's also the first word of an AFL classic ...
Woke up this morning,
from the strangest dream
I was in the biggest army,
The world has ever seen
We were marching as one,
on the road to the holy grail
I suspect it's his Jesuit leanings.... Damn Jesuits...Hahaha

Crazy ideas - stop the oppos best player & don't let them dictate where the ball is going time & time again from the middle.
Bevo is too fancy for his own good at times.
It is an interesting theory but Geelong would be in serious trouble if this is how they worked:Not a fan of bringing in yet again another past player who's been with us the majority of his career. Move forward and get fresh ideas please, 3 years at Freo isn't ''fresh ideas''.
More outside voices, especially from successful systems (again, not Freo) are needed.

Given every single line and assistant coach on the panel comes from outside of the Western Bulldogs ecosystem. Not a fan of bringing in yet again another past player who's been with us the majority of his career. Move forward and get fresh ideas please, 3 years at Freo isn't ''fresh ideas''.

Yep a bizzare take really.Given every single line and assistant coach on the panel comes from outside of the Western Bulldogs ecosystem.
I find the argument often put about in here that the club is a haven for past players to be somewhat illogical.
However, Ive come to suspect whenever this subject comes up that its not really a question of having past players at the club, but its one of which past players and how much irrelevant preconceived baggage that they bring with them.
I don't doubt that this place would be doing cartwheels if it was Matt Boyd or Dale Morris who's name was being put about as joining the panel.
Bring it backThere is a certain 100th anniversary/anniversaries coming up, keep an eye out Wednesday night at the B&F
From what I've seen and heard it's more likely that Bob will be part of our media presence as well as helping out with our AFLW side.He won't be part of the coaching group though. So not sure how many of his ideas really matter if he's not.
I see no harm in him being around the club on a part time basis and probably mentoring certain players and working with womens program.
Yep that's my understanding, his main job next year will be in the media on one of the radio teams. From what I've seen and heard it's more likely that Bob will be part of our media presence as well as helping out with our AFLW side.
If that's the case then he'd be an asset, IMO.
Because Matt Spangher could only get our forward line to be the second most potent in the competition.
He just has to go.
Aaron Black is ex Geelong as much as Higgins. He was there for 2 years and I think played some vfl footy post that there. It is an interesting theory but Geelong would be in serious trouble if this is how they worked:
Senior Assistants ex Geelong Players
James Kelly
Steven King
James Rahilly
Brad Ottens
Shaun Higgins
Not Ex Geelong
Brad Scott
Nigel lappin
Aaron Black
Most top teams have 2 or 3 former players in their coaching group which would suggest it is more about quality of the people than whether they played at the club.
I would have the exact opposite. Matty Boyd and Dale Morris are driven and are presently doing the work/apprenticeship needed to be leaders of a football club. Hopefully our football club one day in the future. Bob is not.Bob is one of the most intelligent players to have played for our club. The notion that his wisdom and knowledge wouldn't be of use to the club is ludicrous.
I would take Bob over Matty Boyd or Dale Morris in a heartbeat. This is not a slight on the other two it's just that Bob is very special person
My point is you don't bleed red, white and blue if you try and help defeat the team in a final. If you've not long been away from the club I'd prefer someone who's never been involved with the club for a variety of reasons.Because we have an attachment of some sort to them? For me the appreciation of their efforts for the club doesn't turn off as soon as they stop playing. It's probably a good thing to get experience at other clubs rather than going straight from playing into a role with ours and as such can't blame them for competing against us. For me Bob would have been one who comes across most as bleeding RWB and was a big part of our premiership.
