He would just smile back. He's a Broncos man, doesn't give two hoots re AFL or cricket.

Not much to do now until after the state election.
It will be a disaster for the Lions, Cricket and the possibility of future big event concerts etc if the smiling dickhead gets back in sadly.

This will be the first Qld election I have been interested in in decades.

Bus depot across the road and major roads in north west and east. No close train though, not afl stadium site worthy.
I was not suggesting a stadium.
Just that another large site not that far from the CBD (7km) is up for development.
The bus depot is in Miskin Street to the right of the image past the roundabout
Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens is a 52 hectares site, so the Quarry is also a large parcel of land

Now Miles wants to spend our money building petrol stations - 1950's socialism. FMD. Unionist and labour man for 40+ years, but I can't vote for this shower.

Can't bring myself to vote fascist, so it will be informal for the first time ever.

I think a new multi-billion $$ stadium needs to be in the cbd….i think it would be a white elephant otherwise.

I went to the Gabba 5 or 6 times a year up until this year where I’ve just been priced out & only got to 1 game 😔 (Adelaide -
Bc tickets didn’t sell out for that).

But I don’t think I’d get to more than 1 game a year up there either!

Big stadiums needs to be near accomodation, hotels, restaurants etc etc to get the most ppl. Vic park would tick that….so sad the Lions future is at stake here as is AFL in our city…without kids going to games the next generation just won’t be interested; increasingly they can’t attend while we’re limited by the Gabba.
And that’s now - just imagine by 2032 these nutters we have running the state have to go 🤦‍♂️

I got cold called by representatives of the Liberal candidate for McConnell (inner city Brisbane seat), who is up against Grace Grace. Told him in no uncertain terms that the Olympics is going to be a disaster, there is no legacy, Gabba needs to be rebuilt in the late 2030's anyway etc. He told me that they will discuss implementing the Quirk plan. We will have to wait and see.

I also told them to get a science/technology business plan (last election they had no policy) and be more humane (LOL, as if they will take any notice of this).

Feels like the biggest open secret that they won't publicly admit. They're gonna ditch their opposition to Vic Park if they form government.
The problem is it is not going to be easy to vote for someone like crissafooly based on a guess….most sensible people I speak to know we need a new stadium.
Advocating for it would gain all their votes….but it’s 50:50 voting for him on a guess given they really have nothing else to offer…

If he advocated that now, it would derail the election. Miles & co are so on the nose he will back himself.

Then when he is in the chair, he will have the grounds, and support, to just do it.

Just saying, there were a lot of people before the 2022 Federal election who were saying "don't worry about Albo's lack of policies, he just has to avoid promising anything to get in. Once he gets in he'll do much more than he promised". And lo and behold, he got in and hasn't done a lot, just like he said he wouldn't.

His policy is 100 day review, isn't it?

I would not be so sure on that outcome.
From the start it has never been about the money it is how the government was spending that money.
Numerous articles have come up with better venues and spending the same or less funds.
It is just Miles made it about the money when he mentioned cost of living after rejecting the Kirk review.
Also, it has never been a LNP hot potato. They did the smart political thing and just announced a 100-day review.
They can continue to run with that line without losing much political capital until the state election is over.
Whoever is in power will spend the allocated funds of $7 billion.

A 100-day review brings us to 3rd February 2025.
Let's say whichever government wins and they change their mind.
They then have to start the process from scratch.
Validation report, business case etc, etc.
Deal with Brisbane City Council which i think they will be onboard as long as it does not cost them much more than they have recently committed to Victoria Park improvements.
Deal with heritage & indigenous groups and the local community plus the Greens.
The federal election could be anytime but most likely around or before May 2025.
Now if someone has been working behind the scenes to talk to some of these groups that would help.
But i doubt that is the case as that's not how politicians usually do things.
They announce something and then leave the planning and picking up the pieces to others.

They also need to consider if a new stadium can run in conjunction with the planned equestrian cross country and BMX on the same site.

Im not going to vote libs if they aren't prepared to tactically come out and back a new stadium option. I get it that they are playing small target etc and may not be comfortable announcing anything. The only thing they felt comfortable to announce is that they would give their big miner buddies a nice tax cut by getting rid of the super profits tax that Miles is using to fund all this stuff like 50c fares. If this is all he has got principle's wise, I have no doubt his plan for the Olympics stadium is to sell public land to his private mates and leave it to them. Cant wait to play at Hancock stadium in 2032!

The 2 party system sucks.

Didn’t this happen with the Sydney Olympics with Stadiums Australia?

The point is, he's been ambiguous and has never said yes to Victoria Park. You're hoping that he will once he's in office, despite him never saying he would. But that means he can't be accused of breaking a promise if his review says no new stadium.

They can move equestrian/BMX. Equestrian will be very easy to find somewhere else for, literally any park.

BMX they could move to any one of the reserves around Brisbane - Daisy Hill has some sick BMX tracks already

I don't think they will move equestrian but easy enough to find a BMX venue that is suitable.

However, i listed those two last as i believe all the other issues will be the hold up.
If anything is headed to court that will be the end of the project because of time issues.
Thats why lobbying indigenous and heritage parties should be taking place now just in case and i doubt that is happening
No point engaging the Greens going into firstly a state (Oct 2024) then a federal election before May 2025.

Hancock Stadium would still be better than QSAC.

You won't be voting LNP then because there are no votes in them going down that path.
More likely they lose net votes. Certainly not worth the risk for them.

In the last fairly recent budget, most of these royalties will be used in "cost of living relief" including the 50c fare you mention see below.
This is the main reason Labor did not forecast another budget surplus after 2 surplus results the previous 2 years.
The two surplus results: 2021-2022 $4.4 billion, 2022-2023 $13.93 billion
I don't think the LNP will get rid of the super tax in their first term or ever if elected as it is included in budget forecasts.
For the LNP to cancel the tax they will have to find other ways to raise billions every year.

The Labor party are on the nose with the public mostly because David Crisafulli has been playing the long game in putting doubt into Queenslanders minds over the last 18 months.
He appeared on all the news channels almost every evening for 18 months with some issue he says was Labor's fault.
A lot were legit, many were federal issues, but people can't distinguish, and a lot were just problems all states were experiences.
He basically went with whatever was in the media or topical at the time
Youth crime, getting out on bail and reoffending youth and sex offenders, health waiting lists and ambulance ramping.
Anything to show Labor was not getting the job done.
He was very successful and leads all the polls.
I am not on social media but i assume his media team were doing something similar in that area.
Miles has been pathetic and was a bad choice as the new Labor leader. He was also a week link as deputy premier

"The Liberal National Party opposition has indicated it will not make changes as the tax is baked into the budget forward estimates.

But the state government is not taking any chances ahead of the October election, saying the tax will be legislated to protect royalties for the benefit of Queenslanders.

“There would be no quiet Friday afternoon regulatory changes under any future Queensland government,” Mr Dick told parliament on Thursday.

“Any reduction to the coal royalties will be subject to the scrutiny of the people of Queensland through their parliament – as it should be.”
..............................................................

Cost-of-living relief for all Queenslanders includes:

  • $1,300 electricity bill support for all Queensland households from July 2024, with a higher $1,672 rebate for vulnerable households
  • 20 per cent reduction in vehicle registration fees for a 12 month period
  • A flat fare of 50 cents per trip across all Translink public transport services from 5 August 2024 for 6 months
  • Half-price Airtrain tickets from 5 August 2024 for 6 months
  • $200 FairPlay vouchers for sport and active recreation activities for up to 200,000 Queensland children
  • $15 million for the School and Community Food Relief to provide healthy food for children during school days
  • Food, emergency and financial relief to support Queensland families in need.

I really wish the news would stop reporting on possible Olympic venues as if they could be considered when they're just hypotheticals drawn up by consulting firms. Like this:

"Amazing Mt Coot-tha venue among ideas for new 2032 Olympics aquatic hub"

BHA is earmarked for the modern pentathlon in 2032.
I wonder if this may get cancelled as the sport has changed a lot over recent times.
Either way i don't see the Government putting much money into actually helping the venue being better off seating/asset wise.
...................................................

Yet what the announcer was getting at was a far more significant change. In LA 2028, the sport’s horse-riding component is set be replaced by obstacle course, tapping into the wider cultural impact of TV shows like Ninja Warrior. And so, the event at Versailles represents the end of an era.

“It’s already gone from being a five-day sport to a one-day sport, and that’s now down to not quite a 90-minute sport,” Takken says. “It’s inherently part of the DNA of the sport for athletes to be flexible and adaptable and resilient and self-reliant, so while Versailles is the end of an era in a sense, I think it also marks a turning point in pentathlon towards a different future. But I do feel it has a future.”

Is the decathlon still at the Olympics?
