Reckon we’ve got 2 years to win this bloody flag we’ve been chasing. It sounds like it’s going to get awfully hard after that. My worry is it will make retention harder again for a few years, amongst other things.
Plus Tasmania coming in and monopolising the draft. Lots of challenges coming up. That’s why it’s important to enjoy these seasons while we’re near the top of the table.

At least we shouldn’t make the same mistakes we made post 2004 (hopefully!!) The pros of having a brand new state of the art 50 thousand seat stadium after the games also shouldn’t be underestimated.

In that article Greg Swann said offers to play 1 or 2 home games interstate, I wouldn't be against that, it would be a good revenue stream while our memberships numbers and our gate takings are down.... No more than 2 per season though.

9 at the RNA and sell 1 each season v a big Melbourne club ie Pies/Blues/Tigers/Bombers on the proviso it is played at the MCG, and sell the other to Adelaide or Perth.

What sort of money would selling a home game get you against a big Melbourne club?
They wouldn't want to play what is effectively an away game (plus I think there's still regulations that bans selling to an opposition's home ground, introduced to stop Melbourne selling a game to us). If it's sold to Melbourne the expectation would be against Adelaide or someone.

So, basically still no news.
Just slow leaks that it may be the RNA.

Anyhow i doubt we have 20K season members.
No need for cricket club members to get ticket access to Lions games.
There are a few cricket club sections at The Gabba.
These sections would account for quite a lot of seats. Most likely support is 50/50 Lions/Opposition anyhow.

Maybe it is time for those 3 game Lions memberships (or Cricket Club Lions supporters) to get full Lions membership in the next 2 years.
Reason being tickets should be on the basis of season members with longest membership first.
You also have foundation/life members and club player allocation.
Then a ballot if seats still available.

Also, very little allocation for opposition teams as we won't really have a home ground advantage until maybe the 2/3rd year.
Travel advantage yes, but no home ground advantage until you get to play at least 1 season on what's likely an odd oval shape.
Play the big clubs in Melbourne.
The SA & WA teams on a basis of how good/bad they are playing. Not so great a previous season is in Brisbane, good season away.

We play teams at least once so if this all starting next year we could play:
Eagles, North, Hawks, Suns, Dockers, Crows, Dogs, Cats, Giants x 2 = 10 games

Home game v Pies in Melbourne = 11 home games
......................

A bigger issue is corporates getting suitable rooms.
Thats why i prefer Carrara as they already exist even though i hate going to that ground.
Corporate seating takes up larger space and is big revenue for the club. So, that 20K at the RNA more likely 15K left for members.
The players and the club don't want Carrara so most likely that is not happening.

Want to make sure we get all these academy kids in to the club in the next two drafts.

Home games in Perth?? WT actual F??

I listened to the interview & just as predicted, the backroom bartering process with the government is in swing! On the other hand, home games in Perth?? WT actual F??
I listened to part of the interview while out driving today. The part I heard was mostly Swann defending the Northern Academies, the discussion around the draft, and potential changes to placate the southern clubs.

Funny we talk about that particular topic right now ;)
What they fail to mention in that article is that a good part of the reason for the first round blowing out as far as it did is due to free agency compensation picks at pick 3 and many at the end of the first round.

Yeah that can’t happen.
I'll hazard a guess & say it's just a negotiating tactic. Also if anyone's going to try to make hay while the sunshine's with all this, it'll be the Gold Coast Suns. Bet they're being difficult even when they're playing at the hand me down oval they basically inherited from us.

no point melting about anything until changes are actually announced. from what is reported in the age, the floated suggestions to bid changes seem to be those made by victorian clubs who would want to strip back the academies as much as possible. the only thing hinting at the afl's intention is the line about wanting clubs to pay with a pick closer to where the bid comes. what that looks like who knows

If you don't melt in advance they'll just ignore you and claim the decision has already been made

WA has dollars to burn and a brand new stadium.

Pick 3, Compensation pick North.
Pick 19, Compensation pick Adelaide.
Pick 20, Compensation pick St Kilda.
Pick 21, Priority Pick North Melbourne.

Next year’s first round already has two end of first round Priority Picks added to it. And potentially just as many father son and academy could be selected in the first round next year.

You might be right. Surely the answer to potentially ‘locking out 40k members’ is not to lock out ALL of your members by playing interstate, regardless of the loss of home ground advantage. This makes no sense.

Sole wipe numbers being thrown around. Your average crowds were 32k in a GF season. So, compared to now, only 12k more would be locked out.

A 20k RNA would be a great result. Although, unless the EKKA is moved to October, you might end up playing finals @ Metricon.
