Decision was made 1 week ago.
Thats good to know.
I assume the Government have asked the Club to not say anything until it is announced by them.
However, if the Government doesn't say something soon it will leak anyhow.
Maybe it already has but just not confirmed.

I believe this will be a major issue in next year's Qld election. The glossy announcement coincidentally falls immediately after the avoidable death of a Grandfather due to Ambulance ramping. Impeccable timing and management of the media cycle from a Govt facing potential defeat next October.Add this week's 350 mill bribe to Public Servants and you see the process in action.
While the Games themselves may have popular support this expenditure plus the disposable Swimming Centre at Roma St will come under intense scrutiny in an Election fought during a Cost of Living crisis.
The Economy will likely tank in the early New Year after the Xmas sugar hit. February and March are the toughest months in any Retail,Manufacturing and Hospitality business.Next Year will be exacerbated by Reserve Bank interest rate rises. Unemployment will rise.Expenditure and Money management will be top of mind. The bribe to the Public Servants and this announcement is just the start of the Election campaign.
Labor will need to sell this Olympics expenditure to the whole State and the intense scrutiny of the Election camoaign has not yet begun
So buckle up. It's not over yet.

Thank God for footy then💪

Has anybody thought... why not Shanghai? We can convert all those Suns supporters to Lions.
狮子队加油,布里斯班雄狮队,我们将踢出胜利的比分。

Interesting ... when I tried going back the other way Shízǐ duì jiā yǒu, bùlì sī bàn xióng shī duì, wǔ ménjiàng tíchū shènglì de bì fēn. turned into 'The Shizi team has added friends, and the Wumen team has won a must-win victory.'

Where I got it from was typing 'We are the pride of Brisbane town, you'll hear the mighty roar' ...

Note to self ... never trust Google translate!

Two take outs from this week’s media:
  • they are aiming to have the new Gabba ready for the Ashes test in Dec 29. So four full seasons elsewhere.
  • Summer of 26/27 is a four test series so Queensland will miss out. I think 27/28 is also a four test series, so it may only be one test match in 28/29 that might need an alternative QLD venue.

So just Play the BBL and maybe one test at Metricon and cricket is sorted. Reckon this makes BHA more likely for Lions,

Add on the Summer of 26/27, apparently there will be two tests being played at MCG with one in summer against New Zealand and another in March against England (in 150th anniversary celebrations).

Lions chief executive Greg Swann confirmed there were already “offers” for the Lions to sell some of their 44 home games during the 2026-2030 AFL seasons, with Perth and Melbourne on the radar.

The Lions are yet to lock in their preferred playing venue, but Swann conceded there would be some “pain” for local supporters with any venue, likely to be the Brisbane Showgrounds, unable to hold much more than 20,000 people.

Always welcome to play our home games in Adelaide ;)

Would finally not be harassed by Crows and Power supporters on the train home.

In that article Greg Swann said offers to play 1 or 2 home games interstate, I wouldn't be against that, it would be a good revenue stream while our memberships numbers and our gate takings are down.... No more than 2 per season though.

9 at the RNA and sell 1 each season v a big Melbourne club ie Pies/Blues/Tigers/Bombers on the proviso it is played at the MCG, and sell the other to Adelaide or Perth.

What sort of money would selling a home game get you against a big Melbourne club?

Reckon we’ve got 2 years to win this bloody flag we’ve been chasing. It sounds like it’s going to get awfully hard after that. My worry is it will make retention harder again for a few years.
My thoughts exactly.
Add onto that, Fages won’t last much past the next few years either.

Reckon Fages will leave at the end of his current contract in 2025.

Would commence a new era at the club given the situation we face ourselves in.

It could also go the other way and we make the RNA a fortress like the Gabba... 4 years undefeated at the RNA.

A nice boutique 20,000 seat stadium a sell out every week packed with nothing but Lions fanatics will be an intimidating venue for opposition sides.
