Youd think that when the added cost of temporary homes for cricket and footy is added to the demolition costs, gabba will end up being same cost as Victoria Park.
So youd think you choose greenfields site, easier to build and it guarantees some land for housing once Gabba torn down whereas rebuilding gabba they wont bulld houses on the Victoria Park footprint that would have had stadium.

You will never make it as a politician with reasonable thoughts like that.

Brighton Homes Arena already needs an upgrade. Gives us a grandstand and some bloody shade FFS. This is QLD not miserable Melbourne with constant cloud cover.
It is a hellhole on a hot, sunny day. Dangerously so on that exposed outer side.

Pressed on whether he was definitively ruling out a new stadium at Victoria Park, Mr Crisafulli said: “No new stadium at Victoria Park.”

When The Australian put to him that it didn’t leave many options for the main Olympic stadium, he said: “Let’s have a look at what an independent infrastructure co-ordination authority comes up with.” Mr Crisafulli, however, reaffirmed a new stadium would not be in the terms of reference for the 100-day review he would commission from the agency if the LNP won the election.

Asked whether he would be prepared to revisit the original proposal by Mr Miles’s triple election-winning predecessor as Labor premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, to rebuild the Gabba stadium, he said: “Let’s have a look.”

I haven't been inside the ground - did they plant enough mature trees along the ridge to do a job in the years ahead?

I probably wouldn't entertain a day game there outside of the winter months. Unless I was guaranteed a grandstand seat with the afternoon sun behind it.

There’s planted trees that are meant to grow and give cover eventually but I agree they really should have gone for more than 650 grandstand seats. I still love the stand though and it’s inspiration from the Kevin Murray Stand at BSO.

The grandstand seating is great. Gone to two games this year and spent the extra money to go there both times since I hate sitting on grass. Very nice view of the ground.

There are trees planted but they are a decent time off reaching the stage where they will provide consistent shade along the wing for supporters.

It doesn't really matter what Crisafulli says at this stage. Whatever the review comes back with, he gets to say how they can listen and accept experts opinion and contrast himself to Miles who did the opposite.

I must say, it's back to it looking like The Gabba being the favourite. It might end up a staged re-development with reduced capacity.

Was at the latest QFL finals. The ground is not of suitable standard for anything like a decent crowd. Zero shade. Minimal facilities. Food appalling. Must do much much better.

Weird, a paper owned by the same company as the Broncos is banging the drum for us to have a larger stadium. And Schrinner essentially said he's in favour of a new stadium for us without saying it.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner used the Lions’ win to reiterate calls for the games to “deliver a lasting legacy” for the city and state.

“I’m a strong believer that Brisbane teams should be able to play in Brisbane and clearly, there’s growing demand to watch the Brisbane Lions play in our city,” he said.

“While decisions about stadiums will be a matter for the new independent authority, I’m confident the future of our sporting teams will be considered alongside community and transport benefits.

“After all, there’s not much point investing in a venue if spectators, officials and athletes can’t get there.”

Well, if he excludes a new stadium in the "terms of reference" in the review he is as stupid as Miles
Throwing that option in gives him an out if they come back with something acceptable to the State and Commonwealth.
That being what i have said all along.

They need to decide what is best for the Olympics.
(a) A costly ($ figure yet to be determined after all this time) Entertainment Centre holding the swimming.
(b) An oval shaped stadium holding athletics & the opening and closing ceremony. A legacy for AFL and cricket.

The funding won't allow both, even if they change the split which needs to be done anyhow in my opinion.

At present for some reason both parties appear to prefer an Entertainment Centre.

Option B every day of the week.

Brisbane Lions still waiting on Joe Daniher to confirm his future as premiership celebrations continue
... with Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner saying the team had outgrown the ageing Gabba, which sits about 36,000 fans when full.
“The people of Brisbane are stopping me on the street all the time asking what’s the future, and they know also that the Gabba capped out at capacity a number of times this season,” Schrinner said.
“They (the Lions) could have sold more tickets, they could have had more fans coming in to see a game live, but they were capped, so as support continues to grow, as our city continues to grow, what’s the future?
“If they don’t have a permanent home, and they can’t accommodate that growth, what will that do to the Lions in the future?
“It’s not a future we want to consider. We want to see them to continuing to grow and continuing to succeed.”
“We need to … get a good option that will leave a good legacy outcome. Ultimately the state election (this month) will decide what happens.”

Recently Andrew Liveris President of Brisbane Organising Committee and CEO Cindy Hook earlier in the year suggested people contact their local MP regarding a new stadium. Election looming so thought now is a good time.

I emailed my local Member Tim Mander late Wednesday evening on my thoughts regarding how to get a new stadium.
Tim Mander just happens to be Shadow Minister for Olympic and Paralympic Sport and Regional Engagement.
Received the usual immediate automatic reply.
It was a long read being around 9 plus minutes.
Reading hints on sending correspondence to MPs it mentions keeping it short to 1 page otherwise the office staff may just pass on an abbreviated version.
No way i could keep it to one page so shot it off anyhow.
Just received a reply and it looks like he may have read it all or his staff gave him a reasonable abbreviated version.
No actual thoughts expressed though.

Dear xxxxxxx ,

I refer to your email regarding Olympic Games infrastructure.

Thank you for your full and comprehensive analysis of the city’s future. You have obviously had some experience in this space as you have addressed all the issues well.

As you know, if successful, the LNP will conduct a 100-day review of our Olympic infrastructure requirements. I will make sure that your thoughts form part of the review.

Thank you for taking the time to write.

Kind regards

Tim Mander

the debate last night - both seem to have shot down any new build stadiums.

Vic park seems the best option by a country Mile. ****ing disgrace it’s not seemingly being considered at its fullest.

Just get it done ffs. 60k stadium. Replicate of Optus Park. Integrated into a refreshed VIC Park green space. Walking distance from major rail and bus stops. Centre of the city.
