GAJ & Bomber mend their bridges at Bob Davis funeral.

Yeh, just saw the news, they were sitting together. Was good to see, but still doesn't change the past and what happened, Gaz lied and so did Bomber, left on bad terms. Anyway, looking forward to seeing Chappy, Bartel, Selwood and Lingy getting into Gaz on satday, Ablett will be fairly sore on sunday morning :D

Are you able to provide any evidence that this is indeed the case?

So Dwanyne was full of shit as usual then? Clearly aren't sitting next to each other, some sort of mediator was required.

You could say that about GAJ. Not Bomber.

GAJ was out of contract, Thompson was crapping on about loyalty in the media all year in relation to the GC issue then walks out on Geelong when he was still under contract, Ablett has nothing to apologize to Geelong for.

Not the angle i was approaching from.

Thompson's legacy at Geelong has been tarnished forever by the way he left. Why did he do it? Should be remembered as a Geelong great but won't.

Ablett will always be a Geelong great. Gave his all to the end, and what GC offered was a once in a lifetime deal that Ablett would have been crazy to turn down.

And his team mates would love him - the million he turned down from Geelong is now divvied up between Selwood, Bartel etc. Everyone's happy :thumbsu:

On the photo from the previous page, has GAJ got the whitest nugget in the world? That scone is luminescent!

And Kevin Sheedy will always be loved and respected at Essendon despite a miserable last few years. I guess thats just the difference between us and Geelong.

Yeah, right - because two posts on bigfooty reflect how thousands of fans view 200+ years of heritage between the two clubs.

Two totally different scenarios, Sheedy didn't quit, he just wasn't offered a new contract.
Much different to Thompsons departure from Geelong.

A clause is a clause. Bomber was not under contract.

I have moved on. But let's get your point out of the way. You say Bomber was not under contract? A verbal contract is as binding as a written one.

Anyway, I sincerely hope the death of Bobby Davis may have paved the way for Bomber to "mend bridges" with Geelong. Bomber's departure has resulted in a "win - win" for Geelong and Essendon.

Bomber actually had a written contract. It contained a clause that if he wished to give the cats notice, he could do so and that he would be free to walk away. He chose to activate this clause. The contract could have expired at the end of this season, but instead the contract expired in 2010 as per the agreement in the clause.

Just because Brian Cook states publicly he didn't expect something like that would happen does not make it breaking a contract. Ask yourself: why would Bomber have asked for such a clause to exist in his contract and what message should that have conveyed to the Geelong Football Club?

Not that I really care but I think if he had activated the clause (if this is the case) with the honest approach of 'I want to return to Essendon to coach, because it's where I started my career and my job here is done' rather than the 'I am burnt out and don't want to coach anymore' approach then I don't think opinions would be so negative towards bomber.

And then ask yourself who put forward the "I am burnt out" line. It was not a line used by Bomber himself, it was put forward by Brian Cook. The publicity was then negative toward Bomber and positive toward Geelong.

Its unfair that people still attribute the supposedly messy appearance of Bomber's exit to Bomber himself.

All Bomber had to do was be upfront and honest. Say he is leaving at the end of the year and going to Essendon. Doesn't matter who peddled the "burnt out" line. Bomber is his own man and should have been upfront.

Leave with dignity and respect in place. Not the BS way that he did...

I'm sure they both had the intelligence to be respectful and not engage in anything petty at such an event.

Their bridges are very very likely not "mended".

I'm sure they are not the first two people from the same club who still secretly dislike each other, but their professionalism has helped them not dwell on past events any longer.

I put it to you that he did. It seems unlikely everyone was aware that he would end up at Essendon other than the Geelong Board itself. After he considered applying for the job in 2007, after he specifically asked for a clause to let him terminate the contract at his own behest, after the shake up at Windy Hill at seasons end coinciding with his request to leave; I find that incredibly hard to believe.

The burn out story was peddled in order to make him look bad, to bide some time with that hanging over his head (there was a period of notice in the contract), and then make the decision if he wanted to go. But he still did want to go.

Bomber did the right thing by Geelong both by leaving and by towing the line with Brian Cook's story, allowing Geelong not to be seen in any sort of negative light when their coach has walked out on them.

Oh come on, wake up. Bomber said in a press conference that he was "burnt out" and would take time AWAY from footy. Then goes and signs with Essendon, not to mention he was in talks with the Bombers for most of 2010. As for Gaz, well he always knew he was going to leave Geelong, and the deal was done before the start of 2010, he should have just said it straight up, "Boys, i'm going". The whole season last year was f***** and the Geelong football club had to pay for it because of those 2 guys.

What does what he considered doing in 2007 got to do with how he departed last year? He didn't leave in 2007 and led Geelong through one of the greatest eras the club has ever seen. Thats fact. What he considered doing is conjecture.

The burn out story was devised by Brian Cook to make him look bad? I just have to laugh because that sounds like something out of Days of our Lives. More conjecture on your part.

The facts are: he wanted out. he wasn't man enough to tell Geelong upfront. he said he was burnt out and needed time away from the game, then signs with Essendon.

Hey its worked out well for both clubs, so good luck to Bomber. But no amount of story telling can hide the fact that the way he departed was a downright shame, for himself and for Geelong.
