To me he is Douggy mark 2.
I thought he looked super in the JLT last year. I have him comfortably ahead of Dougy. His aggression and speed is where he'll leave Dougie behind.

And it's not him, it's the style of play. When we struggle, Lynch is not one of the players that stand up.
Though barely anyone else does either, except for Matt Crouch
I agree. I said in the midfield thread I hope there is a transition between Gooch and Douglas. Whether that be Douglas and Gooch alternating between midfield, pine and half forward or Dougie left out. I want to see Gooch play more games or more minutes than DouglasI thought he looked super in the JLT last year. I have him comfortably ahead of Dougy. In minor round games or games we are dominating there is space, we hit up short targets, use '45' kicks through the corridor. Lynch is invaluable in that link role.
Tough finals there is minimal space, scrappy play, hurried kicks. Lynch gets frozen out.
Like JJ, Lynch is invaluable in turning a five goal win into a 10-12 goal win. As soon as it's a break even game, both these guys become liabilities. I'm becoming more and more convinced that we should replace Lynch with a player who can also run through the stoppage rotation. Bad teams still have numerous good players, neither Lynch or JJ would be any good in a bad team. They're great at maximising wins, but they're non-entities when it comes to setting up the win.
Jenkins yes. But you're massively undervaluing Lynch.
How do we know this to be correct, outside of BF that is ?
Im hoping Gaff on a wing would look nice and still young too. Plus Sloane could net us someone like Rankine leaving us a chance of getting Lukosius with the melbourne pick (with assistance from 2019 picks, pick 15-18, 20-22) and the option of trading out Jenkins for a mid teens pick (grab Rozee). Regenerate our list whilst still competing for a flag.I wonder who we'll target with those dollars as a Plan B?
Gibbs was on the radar for a while. Who's next?
Atkins is 23??? No way. I would have sworn he was 25,26 and as a result didn't think much more upside. Maybe I'm a tad harsh on him then. Should have some improvement left before his prime years.

Thanks for that .....disappointing given IIRC he was from a single parent family, doing it tough ......you'd have thought the motivation would have been there, and he was apparently grateful of not going interstate & leaving his Mum ?I have friends who have very close family ties with the Wigg family. As much as they liked to blow his trumpet mostly, there were a few who would still tell it like it was.
Don't think he rocked up to a single PS in good condition over the course of his time here. Several BF rumors pretty much validated this. The club cant exactly push this 'elite standards' thing and then gift players games who aren't following the message. We've already seen this.
I think it was this year there was a big push in the PS for Wigg to come into the side after a season as a midfielder in the SANFL? But yet he supposedly rocked up for PS in the worst shape they'd seen him. Dont want to knock the kid and all the best to him at GC, I hope he's changed a few things and will give it a serious crack, but to me it didnt sound like he was very professional when it came to his football.
I agree ....think Gallucci looks a clone of Douglas .....but has a few more tricks than DougyReckon he's got a lot more to work with than what Dougy offers.
ATS I'm hoping/expecting he comes a fair bit better than Dougy. But should play his role though on a HFF rotating into the middle.

It still amazes me that these guys are given an opportunity & then thumb their nose at that opportunity, to set themselves up for life ? ......can't tell me that he didn't get ample warnings & even a fool would know what the outcome of ignoring the warnings will be !
Let me understand this .......would i prefer a job playing sport earning 350K per year......or a job earning $60K that maybe i don't enjoy .....let me think about that ....
Atkins issue is as a junior he had that natural talent whereby he didn't have to work hard, but still won junior B& F's ......that lack of application saw him turfed from the AFL AcademyWas saying to a few of my mates, after this being his second full season at AFL, it's almost as if he had a case second year blues. Was coasting in a good team to an extent, got ahead of himself with the whole blonde hair thing and stagnated or even went backwards a little bit this year.
But as you said he's only 23 still and sounds like he's learnt a bit from last year. Came back to the club and is posting top 5 times at the club for his running, which was never his strong suit so that's definitely encouraging. As he said in his interview this will only be his 2nd full PS if he gets through it.
With the inside midfield unit was have now in Crouch x2, Sloane, Gibbs and Greenwood, Atkins might be a bit of a smoky to have a very good season by his standards and hopefully benefit from being fed the ball by these guys. I was massively critical of where he was at come the end of 2017, but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far.
And yet there was more discussion around Menzel on this issue, than Wigg ? .......both boys suffering from the Ladham syndromeYeah like I said, I dont want to knock the guy as it's not my place what he or anyone else does.
But when you consistently turn up to PS in poor shape, I dont think that sends a very good message. It puts you to the back of the line both in the coaches mind and physically compared to those you're competing against for a spot.

They won't get disillusioned if they have given their AFL opportunity everythingYeh, I see him in the same vein as Grigg, talent, but not maximising it. Both would have been a better option than Thommo late in 2016, but that's not how our club rolls. I can understand how kids can end up disillusioned. Hopefully this is something that has changed recently.

Jeeebus! If that happens...Im hoping Gaff on a wing would look nice and still young too. Brown ~ Hartigan ~ Doedee
Laird ~ Talia ~ Kelly
Gaff ~ M.Crouch ~ Smith
Jacobs ~ B.Crouch ~ Gibbs
Lynch ~ McGovern ~ Galluci
Betts ~ Walker ~ Fogarty
Greenwood ~ Milera ~ Rankine ~ Atkins
Lukosius, Knight, Rozee, Keath, Obrien, McPherson, Poholke, Hampton, Seedsman, Himmelburg
The talk is Gaff wants to return to Melbourne, but you would hope we are in his manager's ear.
Every player, bar Otten and Mackay, are pigeon holed into a singular role.
There's two types of versatilityIt's a shame some of our least capable players are flagged as 'versatile' while truly versatile players like Sloane, Douglas and Brown are locked to one role.
Has Brown shown he can be more than a defender? I'm not convinced he could become a midfielder & don't see the need. Would like him to get more of the ball when not locking down on a dangerous forward. It's a shame some of our least capable players are flagged as 'versatile' while truly versatile players like Sloane, Douglas and Brown are locked to one role.
