Gallucci and Atkins commit until 2020

Gallucci’s potential is and always was so much higher than a lazy, unprofessional Wigg. Gooch has far more strings to his bow and has the mindset to go with the talent.

I was one that thought Gooch might be at risk to leave at some point. Just struck me as the standard big city Victorian boy who’d want to be playing in his home state with his mates. Stoked that he’s signed for now though, because I think he has a whole stack to offer.
How do we know this to be correct, outside of BF that is ?

Looking a smart move to draft his AFL Academy mate and now housemate Poholke, think Brisbane have woken up to this recently too with their drafting of Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry, Alex Witherden all being Academy mates and Cedric Cox a team-mate of Hugh and Jarrod.
Is that a consideration for clubs now?

Hey I'm a "conservative" remember...;)

Not only do I remember that you are a conservative, I also remember that you are a country member (my apologies for quoting Gough Whitlam).

I suspect that the friendship between Poholke and Gallucci was simply the icing on the cake. I will be surprised if anyone drafted below Myles in the 2016 draft has a better AFL career, with the possible exception of Elliot Himmelberg (hi Marty ;)).

Fair chance SA youngster Lewis Young a late convert to Aussie Rules after pursuing basketball mostly will if his 1st season is an indication IMO......the youngest player drafted in 2016 only scraping in by 11 days and after displaying outstanding athletic attributes at that year's Draft Combine I'd suggest there's a lot of potential upside to come yet. He's one SA boy I'd hope we are working on bringing "home" at some stage.

Yep, I’ll admit that I’ve said Atkins needs to take a big step up this year. Even said if he doesn’t he should be on the table come trade time.. I see him in the same boat as Milera... packed with talent and potential and can grow into a future champion of the club but he needs to be harder at the ball, put more effort into applying pressure on opponents and become more consistent.

I enjoy watching both Milera and Atkins play when they are on but both have a long way to go yet and there is some serious young talent that is going to be competing with these two guys for a position in the side.

Gallucci re-signing is a boon for the club... the more time he spends training, learning and playing with Sloane, Gibbs and the two crouch brothers the better.
When you mentioned "Sloane, Gibbs and the two Crouch brothers" in the same sentence, I pictured our midfield this year and felt a stirring in the loins.

Reckon the early season signings might be due to having plenty of cap space with Sloane having told the club he’s going at season end.

I would think it's equally as likely that they've determined the max that they will pay Sloane, so can fill up the cap around that number.

I wonder who we'll target with those dollars as a Plan B?

Gibbs was on the radar for a while. Who's next?

Sloane's wage would be around 6-7% of the cap, so most of it can roll forward assuming we were otherwise going to be full. If not, we'd have to bring some payments forward. Not sure who's out there and even then, we're so rigid in requiring a fixed type that it's a waste of time thinking about it.

Interesting that he said once Reid approached his manager it was all done very quickly. I guess the delay in re-signing, relative to other first round picks from the same year, had nothing to do with his decision to stay or not.
