When Beveridge was appointed he said that the gameplan would be developed according to our strengths. I have to give him a lot of credit here. He has identified the players individuals strengths and has implemented this. It is obvious with Grants new role, the way Roughead is intercepting marks and not being left isolated on a 1 on 1. The backline was deplorable last year and he has addressed this. I am sure there will still be pain and sometimes they will look terrible but it will take more than one preseason to get it working well but the signs are great.

One good thing about Macca was he instilled ruhtlessness around the ball with his contested ball and unselfish attributed he installed. His tough approach may have caused damage to some but it may have toughened up a lot of the remaining group and will hold them in good stead in the future. I think everyone agrees he was a terrible coach with ball movement, game plan, team selection and as a tactician. It is really early but Beveridge appears to be a great thinker of the game and must also be s great communicator to the players to have them adapt so quickly. Listening to him de does not sound the best but I too believe he may be our best coaching appointment I have seen.

Post libba going down I expected a bottom 3 finish. Now I still expect a bottom 6 finish but am very bullish next year and beyond.

Get used to it. Even the commentators were praising McCartney last night........Obviously they hadn't been to all the games that he coached in his 3 years.

Why do I get the feeling every time we win it will be more about bashing the former coach rather than enjoying the win?
Nah, if us supporters can get used to the game style that we played last night, the McCartney 'tactics' will be forgotten soon enough. Right now however there is such a big contrast between 2014 and what Beveridge has brought to the table that the stark difference is obviously going to be noted.

Talking to me? I won't get used to it, I'd rather enjoy our wins than be bitter :)

Yeah that's fair enough. I'm no McCartney basher but stated how unrecognisable we were last night. One thing we can be thankful for with the previous regime is a lot of players ability to win their own ball, hopefully that holds in good stead when we get up to the top end of the ladder!

Hardly bitter here, more rejoiced that we have a coach who is a goer, a thinker and is up with the modern tactics that is needed in AFL football. I am really looking forward to the year, we have a hungry young group of players with a sprinkling of experienced players that in particular two of the players were rejuvenated, and I talk of Matty Boyd and Brett Goodes. Full credit to Goodes he was delisted and on the back of his VFL GF game, he has come back and with the injury to Zane Cordy, should find himself in the team for round 1.

I think this is to me again? Good to hear you are happy and love the coach, look forward to hearing you praising him when we win some games :)

Thanks for the AFL Live pass tip. Games up for anyone wanting to watch the replay. Just have to remember to cancel the subscription cause it auto renewals.

No, not really, just giving an opinion.
Ok my mistake, when you said 'hardly bitter here' I presumed it was replying to me because I said I would rather enjoy wins than be bitter. No one else brought up anything else about being bitter so you can understand my misunderstanding :)

...

Interesting, I have read many articles and listened to lots of players interviews on radio since the departure of Brendan McCartney, and I now feel we were all brainwashed with his public rhetoric. It has become evident that he was a bully, he lost many of the players, he obviously played his favourites and ignored those he didn't like to wallow in the VFL, he was only capable of coaching his dour "crack in" style of football, he didn't know how to coach on match day against an opposition ................... He just wasn't a good coach!!!

Last night we saw what someone with coaching potential can actually do.
He also brainwashed/snowed the selection panel back in 2011.

Football is a funny game. Try picking the side for the first round. Not easy. I put a side up on the thread for round 1, and had to re-do it 3 times because of the sudden depth of players we now have and had to leave a few out that would normally be shoe ins. Great problems to have!

Having a dinner party today and 3 Collingwood supporters coming...........the feast continues!
All of my uncles barrack for Collingwood. Looking forward to Easter lunch for the first time that I can remember.

Who is the resident bigfootyer with who I lodge my application to join the Mitch honeychurch bandwagon?

I think you will have a splendid time, the Pies are real cold, they reminded me of a team that played like that for 3 years.......................

Might just take a wander through the Collingwood board's thread on last night for some light entertainment. :)

Watched some more of the game on the afl app. Some of our young boys go in low, and go in hard. Obviously been watching how Libba goes about it.

Love big reds attack on the ball. A few medium sized defenders will be bringing an extra pair of shorts

I don't disagree, however we probably should temper things a touch. Collingwood were very poor last night, they really aren't much of a side anymore. In round 1 2013 we smashed the NAB Cup premiers Brisbane by 68 points. This suggests 2 things - that NAB cup form is irrelevant, and that 1 swallow does not make a summer.

I was very happy all the same to watch the dismantling of collingwood, and there were some great signs. However, I have been around the block a few times - will be sitting back and watching with interest.
