I really don’t see it as a blessing that our record holder is potential finished just because it allows to play a kid

Not the right time or place or mindset to be taking with a champion potentially finished

Blessing is maybe the wrong choice of phrase on my part.

But the point is likely it will be a net benefit for us which it will-his lack of marking and his no mobility when the ball hits the deck is exposing our lack of front half pressure. A different front half setup will help.

After so many years of doing the bullying, we absolutely copped it tonight. Luke Hodgd pointed it out too, we’ve always been the team with bigger bodies and able to shake tackles and use our bulk in the contests, but tonight Carlton bullied us and were bigger just about everywhere on the field, was men vs kids.

There needs to be some acceptance in the organisation that we're no longer looking at the short term.

The list management group needs to make the calls so the MC doesn't have to. They should have made many of them at the end of 23.

I'm strongly against any short turn top up. If Stengle leaves we should bank the pick.
How short term is short term though?

O'Connor has been treading water for a couple of years. Has the game gone past him? It was a puzzling decision to give him another two years. He and Mullin are the most likely to be dropped.

Tuohy might survive. I can't see them dropping three Irishmen in one week.

Oconnor is a squad player-fine for leadership and culture but shouldnt be in the 23.

In Humphries. Out don't care who
Mullin

Would think he's back in the VFL next week having been subbed out

I can't think of too many players we've subbed for tactical reasons this season, who've then retained their spot the next week

I did not see that at all. I thought he played with aggression, he just got beaten by a better ruckman.

It's not surprising, TDK has been a professional ruck his whole career. SDK a ruckman here or there.

I concede SDK was 'out of position' but I just don't see the competitiveness right now.

Nah we need a midfielder like bailey smith 100 %.

Some of the other talent is actually already on the list-apart from the obvious bruhn dempsey and clark, mannagh knevitt and humphries all look very good. And stevens and clohesy show a lot of promise. We simply need to be prepared to drop older guys and play them.
Mannagh, Knevitt? You're kidding me. Mannagh is an unknown quantity at AFL level and Knevitt is a decent contributor at VFL level but no more. Stevens, Clohesy maybe. Humphries is the only one who looks a likely sort. The jury's still out with Clark.

Not the role I'm talking about. It's his approach.

He had a great '22, and got injured after that.

Not saying it'd be easy, but the fact is he's come back (to date) softer and more timid than he was.

He used to attack the contest, now he contests half-heartedly and gives little in follow up efforts.

If that's all.he can give them fair enough, quietly push him.back to the VFL. No judgement.

But don't keep playing him in the AFL because he's not at that level atm.
Don’t take this the wrong way - but that is horseshit

Honestly had no hope for this game so I’m honestly not that disappointed but I do worry about things going forward.

Normally a positive poster/supporter over the years but it does feel like we’re heading for some lean years

SDK beaten in the ruck, but that sibling rivalry brought out some aggression in him. I feel like being beaten by his brother woke him up.

He takes that level of physicality back to d50 and I think he's back
I think that’s what they were hoping for.

People have forgotten how good knevitt waa at afl level last year and hes been very good at vfl level this year. Hes an obvious straight swap for tuohy.

Everything mannagh has done in the last 5 years says he will make the step up. He will impact at afl level in the next 12 months its just a matter lf whether he does that with us or another club.

I do rate humphries hes not physically developed enough but the talent is there.

Not worried about clark at all.

Not playing a ruck was a poor choice.
But too many fumbles bad discussions making.
Time to reward Some VFL boys.

Sitting near a bunch of blues supporters
Clearly a bunch of misery guts not happy enough when 9 goals up.
Are were scared when 5 goals up.
Your team done noithing for 20 years even with all those high picks.

How short term is short term though?

This year is a wash, the only team we've beaten in 2 months is on the bottom of the ladder. Half our 22 is washed or will be in the next year or so.

We should be aiming to start a rise up the ladder peak the year of the compromised draft of the new Tasmanian team.

Go young, build up a core together top up once we have a solid group. be thankful we're not starting from zero. Accept that there isn't any short cut available. Fighting against it is only going increase the pain.

I'm going to preface this by saying I totally get the uncertainty, frustration & maybe even annoyance with Bowes game tonight, BUT I think a good position of that has to be directed towards the coaching group

---

We need to work out what type of player we want Bowes to be

Against the Tigers, playing as a pure midfielder he had 29 disposals, 9 clearances, 11 inside 50s to go with 636 metres gained

Can't comment on the Swans match, but tonight he spent the first half playing from the forward line and after Mullin was subbed out he was shifted to defence

When starting forward, he was basically at the top of the arc at every centre bounce and working from there - it's the same spot we saw Dempsey playing from against the Tigers, when he put himself back in the frame for the Rising Star...I know who out of those I'd rather see playing that role

And much like when Stewart was subbed off against Brisbane, he's been shifted to defence to fill the hole

Not sure we know how to use him, but seriously, we've seen what he can offer as a full-time mid and he's in that right age group & size for what we're missing

Mullin is the obvious one to make way. He’s not AFL standard. Way off it.
Last game many insisted we HAD to persist with at AFL level based off 1 good quarter before getting torched by Papley.
He needs to learn football at VFL level.

Building blocks need to be put in place in order. Crawl before you walk as they say.
