Even the a-league has postponed their Friday night Queensland game as of today. The AFL seriously needs to look at moving this game. But we all know it won’t happen.

They'll be stubborn about the rain, but if there's one bolt of lightning, off they'll come.

I actually expect some improvement from the entire squad this year. It's a great sign that Robbie Gray isn't hobbling. Rozzee, Duursma, and Butters hopefully all staying healthy. Lachie Jones starting to show his wares. And improvement from some of our tall forwards. We really should be a better team this year

I think alot will depend on a few key areas:

  • We should at least maintain the ability to defend as a team, but that's never really been a problem
  • Against the better midfields we really need either more first hands to the ball and/or better distribution out of stoppage by foot. Rozee and Butters should give us better distribution but not sure about first hands against the likes of the Dogs & Dees (Butters maybe, he as a real crack).
  • A mobile tall forward line. Dixon being injured will force (well can never assume with Ken) to play a more mobile tall forward set up. With a good set up MG, Marshall and Finno should create more spacing inside 50 than we've seen in years (don't imagine huge open spaces, the oppo will flood back, but more than we're used to) - that good distribution by foot should maximise.
    • This should also be doable with Dixon staying close to goal but we've not really seen that work in terms of forward efficiency during his time at the club... its all bang on his head and crumb.

I'm not super confident on a) the midfield improving sufficiently or b) Ken actually playing a more spaced forward line.

I'll wait for the announcement this afternoon that they've called it off, not only is it dangerous conditions to play under, but even more so to be flying in!

With 100mm of rain likely, GC should be on a plane flying down here.

Absolute madness to play in those conditions in a practice match.
I totally agree. My partner experienced flooding down there and it was touch and go if they were able to head to the hospital for an also appointment this morning

I think too many players were below their best. The players around the center square are solid. We just need better contests ask over the ground, got running from Duursma, explosives from Rozzee and that tenacity and smarts from Butters

Haha, that's insane, I don't know much about QLD weather, but if a forecast like that came through for Adelaide the entire city would be completely flooded, waterways overflowing, SES call outs everywhere. News would've been building up an event like that ALL week long.

Possibly a 5th of our entire years rainfall in a day.
