Nathan played on dan gibbs with nathan kicking truely into the foward line and dan giving nathan cheap shots all day. Shaun lewis started off well then went quiet then got back into the game in the last quarter. Matthew was doing alot of the hard stuff for bannockburn but no kicking straight. Tom mullan grant did absolutly NOTHING. Clint shaw did nothing what so ever. the main person who did damage to the panthers was young zach hickleton, he is one to watch in the future. he kicked 6.1 i think so very well in wet conditions. and i would say the top 5 would just about be sorted but would not close the door yet on anakie.

The top 5 is set but all slots are open for change as there are a number of games where the top teams play each other.

Listed below is the run home for comment.

Bannock play Thomson, East, Belmont, Anakie and North

East play Inverleigh, Werribee, Winch, Bannock and BPH

Thomson get the run of Bannock, BPH, Corio, Inverleigh and Werribee

Belmont play Corio, Inverleigh, Werribee, Winch and Bannock

BPH play West, Thomson, North, Anakie and East

Based on above Bannock have the toughest run meeting 3 of the top five and Anakie at Anakie. Thomson and East have a very similar closing draw and would be eyeing of a top 3 spot. BPH's run home leaves them vunerable to finish lower down the 5 but who knows with these guys at the moment althought their last 5 are easier than that of Bannock. That leave Belmont who have the easiest draw of the top 5 and therefore the comments of Lion King might come true and they could be top of the table at the end of the home and away. Who would have thought that back in March when they didn't have a coach, players, cash decent facilities etc.

It could be a case that all sides in the 5 are on equal point with only percentage setting the spots. Its good to see the GDFL is wide open and the winner could come from anywhere.

Finally as one who has doubted the credentials of Belmont for the entire season to date I will happily eat humble pie and congratulate them on the effort to date. A sterling performance.

Think you are right. There are some very big games coming up for some sides in this comp. Bannokburn will finish in top three. Who played on Tommy and Clint. When they fire so do Bannck. Belmont will be the smokey they may well get a double chance. Think you need the double chance to have a chance for the flag

Keep an eye out for whats going on at Winter Reserve... Can't say too much, but they might be going a bit better than some think! ;)
I think i posted this on Australia Day (26th Jan). A lot of work went into where the Lion's are today. As was also posted before, Lossing young Bagger back to Grovedale was the only glitch in what has been a fantastic year.:thumbsu:

Still some way to go and an injury to Haami might derail the whole process (remember what happened when he missed against West) so I wouldn't count your chickens just yet.

When was the last time a season was this close in the GDFL?

I agree with the last post home games will be worth there weight in gold in the run home. I honestly think percentage will seperate the spots 2-5 if not the whole top 5. This is where Belmont Will struggle.

Being an East supporter the next to weeks are important to have big wins over Inverleigh and Werribee,,,,, this will help percentage. Them set th team to beat Bannockburn and Bell Post Hill. You would thing even beating one of them may get East a top 3 position.

Regardless of who you're playing it's always difficult to have massive wins when the grounds are as heavy as they're at the moment.

Very true.. Who would have thought a comment like this would be posted back in March.. Grounds are now being assessed for the fact they're too heavy instead of being as hard as a rock.

also, can anyone take top spot off bannock.. considering they lost on the weekend, (and ppl starting to say "stop mullane-grant and they're nothing") there would be teams thinking they could take it.. Who is best placed to snatch a top 3 spot and importantly top spot?

I think after a couple of days of sunshine the centre of the grounds wont be so wet. This weekends weather looks like being fine.

Even if you are right even a 5-6 goal win will make a difference as percentage will be much harder to catch up.

As for Millaine Grant rumour has it he is very easily intimidated. Get into his head and he wont perform.

With the top 5 all but settled, except for final placings, name 3 players at each of these clubs who will have a major impact during the finals series.

Bannok : Mull-Grant, Woods, D Broom.
East : Skrobalak, J Coy, S o leary
Thomson : Gage, Gercovich, Mcleod
BPH : Bowyer, Tarr, N Lewis
Belmont : Williams, Tate, (new ruckman?)

I think you are very accurate with these 19th man. All of these teams have players who can make a real difference.
This is my opinion
Bannok: Broom, woods and Mull Grant have been at there best and this has been good enough to beat most teams
East: Skrobolak and O leary havent been at there best and East have managed to stay 2nd.
Thompson: They need Gage and Jercovich firing to win in finals. Mcleod looks to have lost form and has shown his best.
BPH: Lewis is so important to them and hasnt strung many games together, Bowyer has hardly played but looks to be coming back, Tarr maybe a wild card up forward.
Belmont: If Williams is down Belomnt will loose simple as that.

All in all i would say
Bannockburn, East and BPH have the biggest chance in finals of the players you mentioned having an impact. If the players you mentioned fire this would prob lift there teams over the line.

Think your spot on with this.

If you can hold MG and Wodds for Bannock you are home. Haven't seen much of them but these 2 were the linch pins.

For East it will be interesting to see if Skrobolak can fire as he has been relatively quiet from what I have seen and if Oleary can capture form from 2 years anything could happen especially on the big ground where he can run around a bit. A smoky for them is Chamberlain. Hasn't played for most of the year but heard he is on the way back and will be up for finals. He is a class unit and has a lot of finals experience.

Thomson Mcleod has fired his shots and the better opposition have worked him out. The guy who can make the difference is Harriot.

Lewis is the man for BPH. Loves finals and has to be controlled.

Stop Haami and Belmont are gone.

Are you blokes the same one's who bagged Haami as being old and a "choker"?
Belmont are more than a 1 trick pony... Do your homework 19th man, new ruckman? Jeremy Moody was the best ruckman in the league last year. keep treating us with little respect... we like it like that!

i reckn shaun lewis and mathew lewis will have a big impact on the finals for both BPH and bannockburn.
they are the biggest wild cards for me.

You are a dill Lion King, the reason I called him "new ruckman" is because I could not think of his name.
As for the best ruckman in 2006, results will conclude that, that comment is debatable. Especially against the likes of Gage, Hardingham and Bowyer.

Apologies for any mistakes, but it makes it hard to do homework when the league website is second rate!

Never said he was a choker was just considering his age when someone said he had signed a 3 year deal as a playing coach which would make him late 30's in the 3rd year.

Also the 3 games you lost he didn't do much and in the game you nearly lost to West he didn't play so the "No Haami No Belmont" cry has evidence to support it.

From what I have seen of the Lions to date Luke Mahoney is the other player for you blokes who has had a very good year and needs to be watched.

Finally any truth in the rumour that they have had to put the hat around to ensure Haami stays on for next year.

what has been wrong with this guy? he is an excellent player. i saw him play up at kerang as well.

Bannock :Woods, A.Broom, D Broom...........Mull-Grant will faulter.
East: Skrobalak, Coy brothers.....have proved this last year.
Thomason: Harriott, Maheras, Ercoli.....quality unit when firing
BPH: Tarr, N Lewis, Page...might have the goods this year
Belmont: Williams and Tate....won't bother anyone.

I see Tom Perrot from who was part of the 2006 Torquay side is back playing this week for East. He has been injured since round 2 or 3 . Will be interesting to see what the big left footer can produce after a long lay off.

Does anyone think he can make a difference come finals time for East?
