Opinion Geelong Cats Forward Line for Season 2019

Imo , he should focus on what he does well and do that better .. he is never going to be a Budda Hocking or a Max Rooke...where as if he can become deadly with ball in hand then there is a spot there for him. I have reservations that he doesnt bring enough to the side .. everyone needs something that you hang you hat on. Currently id say he is primed to fall into the dry well with a few others that we have given stats to . These dry well plays just soak up games and in the end leave the side before they give back for the trust they have been given.

Having said that.. sure if he suddenly takes on a more physical approach it will not hurt.. its just I find guys who do not do it naturally end up doing what Parsons did against Hawthorn. But you have made me think..

We really do lack a forward who makes defenders look over their shoulders. Hawk is a very good player , he redlines at great but cant sustain it... but although he is built like a bull is more like that friendly bull Ferdinand. I miss Moons when he could go full tilt. Sure at times he did some real dumb stuff but when he got those eyes rolling he could make defnders think twice. And even our other forwards .. there is hardly a hard at it nasty type in that forwardline.

You're not making me any less wistful for a healthy Cockatoo.

There hasn't been much talk about Kreuger... Wonder if he is up to it this year, or whether it is a year of development.

I'd say the Forward line will be like this:

HF: Menegola, SavRat/Stanley, Parfitt/Dahlhaus
FF: GAJ, Hawkins, Rohan

Inter: Narkle

* Midfield Rotations Forward - Dangerfield, Parfitt, Dahlhaus.

-> Can see Miers and Fogarty coming in this year if vacancies arise through injury or form changes.

The #Landshark doesn't need to be heralded, but he's definitely lurking for the kill...

I was always expecting it to be a year of development from Kreuger given his position. Just because he's not up on the radar for rd1 doesn't mean he's disappointing

I think we should let him a few VFL games before even mentioning disappointing and him in the same sentence. Id say he has been drafted to be hopefully ready to play 2020. If he plays before that then he has come on quicker than expected.( as Sav has.) I see him as a high odds chances ..and id still think we will be looking at FA and trade in coming years . If someon like 2mp suddenly says I want in then id say we will jump quick and hard.

Hf: Rowan. Sav. Miers.
Ff. Parfit. Hawkins. Dalhous / Ablett / Menengola.
Parfit has to play forward. Toss up between Ablett / Dalhouse and Menengola for 6th position.

I really dont get the fuss over ER, having a key forward who cant mark really is a liability for mine. I think he is a decent tap ruckman and good athlete but "resting" him at CHF is not making our forward line as efficient as it could be. We are relying on the crumbers to tidy up all his dropped balls and thats a low percentage play in my opinion.

Surely we have better options. I know he is a developing player but surely he should be in the 2s learning the basics like how to mark a ball before playing AFL.

Hes structurally important though-if we replace him with another ruck we have to put Stanley fwd for half the game and Stanley is a crap fwd and in good ruck form, or ruck Blicavs and we seem not to want to. Therefore ERs only competition for his spot are Buzza who is C grade and Kreuger who is still very new. I suppose theres a tiny chance we might get Taylor to play CHF and 2nd ruck instead of Esav but its unlikely. He will probably only miss when he is rested.

Seriously Sav can not touch the ball and still be in our top 5 most important players if Hawk, Stanley and Blics are serviceable or better as a group. You could perhaps even throw Taylor and Henry in. That's how many different players all over the park can get taken away from a more preferred position without Savrat. Only need to look as far as last year to see it. Unless injured or BADLY tired (which no one is after only 3 games then a 9 day break) he will always be in.

I agree with that although i still want to see his form improve. The biggest reason to not drop him at present is we don't have a player to replace him who can likely fill the same structural role to a higher standard, not because his form actually warrants an extended run of games.

We’ve got the Misfits as our backline.

Paddy’s comando’s maybe for the centre.

But what of the forward line group? Can anyone suggest a moniker?

I named the smaller group "The Pressure Gang", so id suggest something along those lines, right now we probably have the most "pressurised" forwardline in the comp.
Atleast from what I've seen.

We really don't, though. We have Buzza, and he's not likely to be any better than Sav and certainly has less upside. Then we have Kreuger who is also just a developing kid.

I agree. As long as Esava competes in the air and creates opportunities for others then he is doing his job.
But I think that he will come good in time. He has only had a few games back from a bad break and will take time to find form.

And he can mark the footy. He just needs to find a bit of form.
