But overrated. Theyre not that good. May even miss the 8.

Totally agree! the real deal???? what a joke.

Graham will go backwards and kingsley aint that good.
No forward line to kick to. Fast young good in a year but 8 would be good for them. Mooney?? Harley?? no class there. One FB wont stop onslaughts and onslaughts of goals this is AFL!

I didn't realise they were rated.

Listening to SEN this morning was amusing.
They've been in an similar situation to this in 2002 , you'd want to be keeping a lid on it right now but that doesn't appear to be happening.

Didn't tip them to win a game in 2004, so I suppose if anything I under rated them. I still suspect us (Kangaroos) to make the eight, at Geelong's expence.

As gocats said, we've just finished round nine. Maybe we should wait for round 22 to cast aspersion, but I suppose that would remove the point for message-boards like this...

Write off the Cats, you can write off most of the bottom 8 as well - Geelong has played better football than all them over the last four weeks, and while popular opinion would say they won't be able to keep this up, can anyone honestly look like at the bottom teams and think they can suddenly lift? Geelong could play a somewhat mediocre game and be competitive with the crap-kickers of the comp (to name but one example, Sydney), so even if the Cats don't go the distance, you could hardly write them off.

A couple of counters - Mooney and Harley, no class??? WTF??? I couldn't give a hoot if they were two of the biggest hicks to grace this good earth, if they keep playing the way they do they are among our most effective, and would be amongst the best 22 in almost any team of the comp. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't been watching them play - not that you need to to make uninformed, ignorant, and rather stupid statements like that. Also, anyone who thinks Graham is a class forward - please, think again. He takes a good defender, does a little bit, and that's all. What that does is keep a better defender off Haynes, Kingsley, etc. (all the "crappy" players, as you'd probably label them) so they can kick more goals against the "crappy" back-lines. It's been working that way for the last couple of weeks, hardly rocket-science in picking it up.

Last but not least - yes,we were in a slightly similar situation in 2002. Does this mean it's going to happen again? Did we rock up to the 95 GF and say "dang, we've been here before, we're just going to lose again". I suppose you could reply flippantly to that, but since I'm trying to argue rationally (most likely a vain cause around these parts), I'll put it out there. Does this mean if we lose this week, win the next four, lose 2, win the next 3 we've got the cup, because this particular run of win/loss has never happened to us before?

Well, a rather lengthy post, but I suppose you can't blame me for trying. Just go back to ignoring Geelong, it's easier for everyone that way...

Dont disagree. Theyre a good side and had a good month. But this week its their turn to be media hyped....over hyped. Its not their fault. But nonetheless, as a result, overrated.

Precisely.

All this talk of Geelong being "Premiership material" isn't coming from Geelong supporters and is truly folly anyway. Even i admit that.

We know we have a long way to go in our development as a team.

Far too early to tell.

I wanted to kick Clinton Grybas in the head tonight when he started talking about Geelong as 'premiership material'.

A few weeks ago he described the bulldogs eagles match as 'Game of the milennium'. He's an ok caller, but sometimes he goes overboard.

As much as I haved enjoyed the turnaround to our season and was very proud to watch the boys great win the other night, I am rather perplexed by Bomber Thompson's comments - re:respect.

He does appear to have a considerable issue with this. Perhaps it stems from his tiff with Kevin Sheedy - I'm not really sure - be he definately has a big issue about this word. It's not the first time he has said this and it is usually timed right after a couple of wins. My advice to him is to forget about trying to impress the world and win respect - just focus on winning games. The rest will fall into place.

Respect is earned from winning Grand Finals, so from where I sit, we have a very long way to go.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy about the way we are travelling, but a little less talk and a few more results might be the order of the day. After all 5-4 is hardly an outstanding record.

Cheers

We've had a good month on the field and are reaping the well deserved praise. Finals contender? At the moment, yes. Anything more? No.

Geelong were under-rated at the end of last year, i felt their young list demanded more respect in terms of the future. They were covered by the shadow of St.Kilda's development and Fremantle's surge. Geelong are a quality side and the are still developing, they are still in the shadows and i think that is a good thing because they hate it and want to be seen as a top rate side. they are hungry for results and i think they may just have the ability to make an account of themselves come finals time.Im excited by them.

then...

class is not your average player CLASS is AA material bronlow material or down right consistently top 10 players on the field material YOU ******.

If you think Harley is CLASS then the Cats have got problems and thats why theyll AT BEST finish 8th/9th

Robert 'I hate Geelong' Walls labeled : Cornes, Leppitsch, McPharlin & Harley all in the same class and all chances for AA CHB...

Also, the doggies have always had Johnson, Smith, West, Darcy (and formerly Brown) always in the AA mix for the last couple of years, they weren't labeled ' genuine contenders' (at least over the last couple of years).
