Geelong - Too old, too slow?

It's about the bulk of numbers in each city

There's 20 times as many people in Greater Melbourne than Geelong.

Hence, there's loads more Geelong fans already in Melbourne than there are fans of any other team in Geelong

This gives Geelong a natural advantage in terms of crowd support.

A small advantage, to be sure, but the small advantages add up
Why would that be the case? There would be a similar disparity in both Melbourne and Geelong. It seems like you're just reaching for anything to try and prove your point, you need to actually have a good think about what you're writing because I think you're confusing yourself brother

Travis Varcoe has called a press conference to announce that he missed his running shot on goal in the dying seconds of the 2013 prelim because of the width of the wings 50 metres over his right shoulder.

Apparently a group containing Gary Ablett Jr, Steve Johnson, Paul Chapman, Cameron Mooney, Corey Enright, James Kelly, Brad Ottens, Darren Milburn, Jimmy Bartel, Andrew Mackie, Cameron Ling, Joel Corey and Harry Taylor have also called a media conference - they’re calling themselves, rather cryptically, ‘the 13 All Australians who retired from Geelong’ - to announce that they believed their retirements would enhance our finals performances but that enhancement was canceled out by what they are calling ‘closer boundary lines.’

You do realise we are talking about the current team right? I’ve referenced a number of times since 2012.

You do realise Travis Varcoe missed a kick with seconds remaining in the 2013 (that’s after 2012 FYI) prelim against a side who would win the next 3 grand finals that would have levelled scores, right?

You do realise the whole point of what I wrote is that YOU seem to think we lose prelim finals because we play home and away games on a ground with different dimensions to the grounds on which we have lost preliminary finals, whereas I just pointed out that since our last flag we have bled 13 multiple-flag players who were AA, yet you seem to think we stopped winning prelims because of ground shape, rather than because we simply don’t have as good a side anymore, right?

F***en hell your comprehension skills are bad

Probably doesn’t know Chappy and Enright missed that game.
Huge factor!
But those 2 were useless on the MCG I guess…

You wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to play in most of those prelim finals if you didn’t finish top 4 in the first place let alone win them. Which KP enabled you to do. From memory didn’t you have a finals record of 2-11 at some point. Cmon surely that’s not a top 4 quality team. You weren’t old or slow for 80% of it, so that wasn’t the cause.

Geelong may be in the top 4 this year but this is just a feeling but they feel further away from a flag in 2022 than they have in the previous few years.
Tend to agree with this
A lot needs to go right (and not right with other teams) for Geelong to win it

At least though, certain Geelong fans such as myself who have been critical of the clubs drafting and game day selection policy are seeing some small signs of investing in youth

In 2013:
Sydney went 7-3 away from Sydney
Fremantle went 5-4-1 away from
Subiaco. (Hawthorn went 19-3 for the season and won everywhere)
We went 10-5 away from KP.
Gee if I didn’t know better I’d guess that out away performances were: better than Fremantle, slightly worse than Sydney, two of the other top 4 sides. With the addition that we travelled 5 more times than either of them.

2014, our next top four finish, where we went 10-5 away from KP again.
Sydney went 8-3 away from the SCG/ANZ stadium. Fremantle went 5-5 away from Subiaco. Hawthorn went 3-4 away from the MCG/York Park.
Gee, again, it’s almost as though our away record shows we earned a top four finish.

2016
Geelong travels and goes 10-4
Hawthorn go 6-2
Sydney goes 8-3
GWS goes 10-4 - and that includes their games at Manuka
Hmm, again, my maths isn’t at Einstein levels but gee it looks like we had a very similar away record to every other top four side.

2017
Cats go 9-5-1.
GWS go 8-5-1, again with Manuka games included as their ‘away’ games even though they host interstate teams there.
Richmond go 6-5 when they had to leave the MCG
Adelaide go 6-3-1 away from the Adelaide oval
Once again your amazing powers of perception have somehow established that despite having a better record away from
Home than two other top four sides and an almost identical record to the other, we were the side that only got into the top 4 because of our home ground.

2019
Cats go 8-5 away from KP
Lions go 6-5 away from the Gabba
Richmond, bless their cotton socks, went 5-4 away from the MCG.
Collingwood went 6-2 away from the MCG

2020
Whole season played at mostly neutral venues but suffice to say in making the grand final Geelong obviously struggled away from KP…

2021
Geelong go 9-4 away from KP
Melbourne go 9-2 away from the MCG
Port went 9-2 away from Adelaide
Brisbane went 6-6 away from the Gabba.

So what does this prove, exactly?

  • your argument is that of a simpleton
  • in every year we have made the top 4 since our last flag, we have had a better AWAY record than AT LEAST one, often 2-3 other top four sides
  • it proves we have that winning percentage despite playing away from our home ground more than any other side

So tell me, Sir Isaac Newton aka Falcon3518.

If we only made the top four because of our home ground those years, with LESS home games than all the other top four sides in those years, with a better AWAY record than half the sides on those years, remind us which teams are making the top four due to home ground advantage?

Because using every basic numeric and mathematic system discovered by mankind to date, it sure as f***ing shit isn’t Geelong.

Now, shut up.

What a group of players except Varcoe who I still never forgave for that game.

He can do anything he likes after the 2011 GF
go onto the 2013 preliminary final after game analysis thread and look for my old account and you will see I used to be just as bad as falcon when I was 15.. the very old geelong board members i learnt things from them so hopefully this fella does the same

I have done a few things on this website I am ashamed of and that is one of them

Didn’t you say to me before that you sell them? Lol

A) no, I didn’t
And b) we make more money from KP games than we do at the MCG.

Now, correct me if I am wrong, but based on my admittedly rather limited understanding of western capitalism, when you sell something, the basic principal behind that transaction is based around making a profit from the product that is sold.

So tell me, oh wise one.

Why would we willingly ‘sell’ our home games to lose money?

rainfall and you never liked me for things i did as a minor but it doesn’t bother me i understand
Are you a meteorologist?

And that's not correct. I was worse and I'm an adult. 🤣

I’m 99% sure that you did and the cats then play that home game at marvel or MCG but anyway this is off topic what is your point? Of your 9 home games this year how many are at KP? I’m assuming all of them then correct?

Well that’s great because I’m 100 per cent certain I didn’t - largely because I didn’t.

Yes ‘all’ our 9 home games are at home. All 9 of them. All 9 of our 11 home games are at GMHBA
