Yeah I heard him say that too. Surely it would have to have some impact. I’m just a supporter and I’m still pissed off about it.
They're the opposite of the group under Bomber Thompson that used past failings to spur them on. I think it was James Kelly that said the smashing by the Lions they received over the early 2000s really stuck with the group.

There is a huge difference between using hidings you copped when you were the young whippersnapper playing the top dog to motivate you, and being an experienced group playing against a good but not great opponent and blowing a winning chance, and using THAT to motivate you

argh. Anyone got recommendations for supplementary radio commentary? It's been ages since I've listened to the radio with TV on.

I've been listening to SEN - they've got Huddo and Gerard calling Geelong finals, so you can enjoy two of the best callers in the game, along with the sometimes not so subtle passion they have for the Hoops. They were almost giddy calling the last game, especially during the second quarter.

SEN is the best for mine, Triple M and even K Rock spend too much time trying to be comedians, just call the ****ing game.

Pretty sure you're right there, Bots.

How anyone can respect (let alone like) a commentator who is so 'me, me, me' that he insists on calling our #3 'Par-FITT' is seriously beyond me.
After years of having to rely on people posting info or dropping into the airport to pick up a Melbourne paper on a Monday to get any footy at all,I could't care if Ivan Milat was the commentator.I'm just grateful for what I have.

I would love a Kayo feed of the game where you can keep crowd noise and maybe have a menu of commentators you could toggle on or off. So you could have just game and crowd noise with no commentators or you could have just say, Bruce’s commentary and Hodgey’s special comments but toggle off BT and Luke Darcy. You’d get some long silences but I’d take that!

Don't see what you're getting at here at all. I've been a Queenslander all my life, and yet I could still always tune in and watch games (with commentary) on FTA television. That's never been something I've had to forego, with a subsequent need to be grateful for what we are subjected to now. And every single incarnation of those commentary teams over the years (coming up to forty years of my life) has been superior to ever having someone like 'Wowee!' BT as a key component of the group.

And, as for Milat, why anyone would want to mention him at any point (let alone in connection to football, with which I would believe he had absolutely no connection whatsoever) is simply bizarre in my opinion.

I really liked Bruce before this season, has fallen off a cliff.

He's been on the nose for years for me. Labelling Rance as the best defender of the modern era back in 2016 was the starting point.

I go back a lot further to the days of the ABC the winners 70S with Drew Morphett we got a replay of two last quarters and CH7 replayed a game after the basketball around midnight Saturday night.

PS a bit off topic well along way off topic really but some Geelong stuff at the start worth watching before you piss it off.

I think pure "run" is overvalued a tad. If you play on and get the ball moving, it's quicker than any runner. Essendon are full of "runners" but can't finish top 8.

Don't hesitate, take the first option, keep the ball moving. If you can't go forward, go around the fat side until there's space.

Something Geelong does well is exploit the opposition zone. By that what I mean is that you'll find that Geelong won't commit to bring the ball forward of halfway until they're sure they can get it into the F50. That's because most zones won't setup inside the F50 until the ball is forward of centre (always wanting to sit 1 to 1.5 kicks in front of the ball). So we get the one-on-ones because we get it over the zone.

But to do so, we need to keep the ball moving quickly, even if it's 50m kicks across the ground, the ball is constantly moving enough that the zone gets confused and stretched, and that's how we need to play to exploit Brisbane's defence.

good post.

we also need to ensure we control the Centre corridor for the game. We need to dictate defending the corridor and pushing the ball back through the Centre to attack. We can’t be pushed long and wide all game and let Brisbane move the ball central. This occurred a lot in the port game and we were forced wide and slow with little options.. what it also meant was when we got pushed slow and wide, that if a turnover occurred, port could bring the ball back into the middle on the turnover.

if we can’t bring the ball back in through the corridor with our movement, then we need to look to switch it to the other side of the ground, we can’t be bombing it long and high down the wing slowly. You need to own and control the ball not kick it long and high to contests down the wing of the ground.

we need to have a principle of only kick it long and high down the wing if we are trying to gain territory from deep in defense and are happy to re group for a throw in. Otherwise we need to avoid contests and either switch it or bring the ball back central

They used the 2008 GF as a motivator for 2009 though, didn't they?
