Is Bruhn definitely ruled out? We need him this week going up against one of the strongest midfields with our two best on the sidelines yet again.

Geelong by 186.

Is that rounded down based on Bruhn not playing? lol

Selwood, Dangerfield, and Guthrie were our three A-grade midfielders last time we played the Dees, but all three will be absent for this match. I assume Bruhn will also be out injured unless he plays through the injury. Somehow our midfield is now more depleted than a fortnight ago. One positive in this situation would have been getting games into Jhye Clark, but he's injured. Mengola would have offered some cover, but he's injured. So the frontline mid options are Atkins, a woefully out-of-form Parfitt or Simpson, Knevitt, or maybe that rookie from the SANFL?

Pretty grim. We will need a recurrence of the 1994 semi-final miracle.
Stanley in gives us a mobile ruck while it releases Blicavs to our main midfielder. Holmes 2, Atkins 3, kids 4th/5th. It'll be stronger midfield group than Vs Freo, GWS or Bulldogs.

Holmes is an exciting winger who, so far, has yet to show much in the midfield and has had little experience there. If Bruhn is also missing, which is possible, then the midfield will be on par or weaker than the games against GWS, Dogs and Freo, two of which we lost. Melbourne's midfield is elite. Even if Oliver doesn't play, there is Gawn, Petracca and Brayshaw.

It's hard to win games with such a second-string midfield. It will be a great win if they find a way.

The only thing going for us is the Dees forward line isn't that great and if our defenders can get on top we might be able to stop them kicking away from us. But given that our defense is currently ranked 15th in the Comp, that's a big if. Getting Stanley back will be a plus as said above, Bowes back in helps too. But it seems like we have no A-grade midfielders at the moment, and that's a huge problem. They will have Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw etc. with help from Gawn/Grundy. Beating the Bulldogs showed this team can get it done against a superior midfield, but they will really have to grind this one out if they're a chance. It will require a 4 quarter effort, which they didn't bring against PA.

Sorry for the intrusion, but first I wish to apologise for bringing Mullin and Bruhn into my fantasy team over the bye rounds. That would explain their injuries.
Happy to trade out Mullin, but is Bruhn likely to be back any time soon?
We'll find out more about Bruhn in the short or medium term.

According to the closest thing we have to a decent injury report, Josh Barnes of the Geelong Addy:

  • Stanley available
  • Dangerfield facing “more than a month”
  • Bruhn likely to miss

Retro round... so we will be all decked out like Alister Lord ?

I like the collars on the jumper - for all clubs actually

Watching the 1st half replay of the Port game - i thought Tuohy and Rohan were Geel 2 best players

This rest Tuohy nonsense - give it a break - that 1st qtr - Rozee/Butters went on a run - well it was a no contest with Bruhn - burnt him right off - but Tuohy made good ground on him - so Tuohy is going well - and moving well

As others have said - its very grim - re the injury front - but the biggest issue for Geel and it started in Round 1 - is they only want to beat teams - by having a burst of great football - in RD 1 against Coll - the 1st half was as good as Geel could play - the 1st qtr against Port was excellent - but they cant sustain it for 4 qtrs - because they cant be bothered - and that is whats called a Premiership Hangover

Holmes has actually rarely played wing this year in the way a player like Smith does. He's shown plenty at stoppages and compliments the other two mainstays this year in Atkins and Holmes.

There's no point fretting that much about a team that has served up a few shockers against middling teams already. I repeat, Stanley, Holmes and Duncan in is a much stronger ruck/centre line than the midfield we beat Dogs with even if there is no Bruhn. At home we are always a chance. But there will be other things on or to do as well.

IN: Stanley, Esava, Bowes
Out: Danger, Bruhn, O Henry (Sub)

  • SDK full-back
  • Esava CHB
  • Stewart sweeping/intercepting

Jack Henry to the forward line, take May or Lever out of the game

O. Henry to miss with Jack taking his place in the forward line.

Blicavs or Atkins hard tag on Petracca (or Oliver if he plays)

I really don't like our chances if Oliver plays as our midfield is seriously under classed. However, if we play with the same passion/ferocity as the Bulldogs game we're in with a shot.

Go cats

This has been a hallmark of many a Geelong home and away game over the past 4 or 5 years though, including 2022.

Look at some of the losses like the one v the Saints and some of the wins like the one v the Tigers last year, where we really went inexplicably missing for whole quarters at a time.

That was a team that eventually would be winning the GF in a canter.

With 2 x inside mids missing, surely at least 1 mid needs to be an inclusion - or do you think we see Bowes take a spot in the guts?

Henry SDK Guthrie
Stewart Sav Duncan
Smith Blic Holmes
Miers Cameron Rohan
Close Hawkins Stengle
Stanley Atkins O'Connor
Bowes Bews Knevitt Hardie
Sub O.Henry

In Hardie Knevitt Sav (to consistently jump on the back of resting ruck) Bowes Stanley
Out Kolo (man), Tuohy (man), Danger, inj Bruhn (inj) O. Henry (sub)

I really hope we see Hardie play this week we need something in the midfield. Stanley back will help, Bowes should play and he and Duncan can rotate through the middle adding to that group.
Esava should be back, I hope we settle him and Dekoning back for the rest of the season.
