Why couldn't Dustie reach Joel Selwood's level of four flags in the modern era? Disgusting!!I’ll be honest though, how do Cats 2 best players have such poor finals records?
1/8 NS rate is disgusting and it was in a loss!!!
Bobby Hill just played a better final than GAJ has done in his whole career.

And Shane Ellen played a better grand final than DustyMitch Morton played a better grand final than GAJ could ever dream of.
You guys should’ve subbed in Ellen DeGeneres for the Abletts in the 89 and 08 GFs, maybe then you would’ve actually won something. And Shane Ellen played a better grand final than Dusty
Because he doesn’t duck for frees and have a team riddle with rigged f/s picks. Why couldn't Dustie reach Joel Selwood's level of four flags in the modern era? Disgusting!!
So Lions don’t have a dynasty. Is that your official view? Please tell me yesThe dynasty cutoff is 4 flags, I've checked the rulebook. We can't very well have every flash-in-a-pan team claiming greatness status now, can we?
And Shane Ellen played a better grand final than Dusty
And Cotchin and Mitchell.M.Priddis and S Wowoedin were better brownlow medal years than any GAJ year.
Don't encourage him it's like giving a 3 yr old multiple cans of Red BullM.Priddis and S Wowoedin were better brownlow medal years than any GAJ year.

So there we have it, to think how lucky we have been as football fans to witness three dynasty sides already this century in Brisbane, Geelong and Hawthorn.Section III of official footballing dynasty: A team must have won at least four premierships to be considered a dynasty side.
Section III(a): If a team who has won three premierships happened to win all three in a row, then that team will be considered a dynasty side.
PS Cleansweep17 if you think it is "shocking" to be in the best 2 players on the ground for 83% of finals - then you are essentially saying you don't rate any period of finals for players in the AFL era. Because you are so desperate for it to be Martin's thing and Martin's only. Not a footy fan, in other words. Just a sycophant for one of your club's players.
But just out of interest, who are your top 20 finals players of the AFL era (1990 onwards)?

So do you rank any other players finals performance highly at all? Over any stretch (entire career, singular season, 5 year block)?Yeah it’s shocking, maybe because I’m spoilt and we had Dusty who from 17-20 went:
BOG, BOG, BOG
BOG, N/A
BOG, N/A, BOG
N/A, BOG, BOG, BOG
So a whopping 9/12 or 75% BOG rate
3/3 Finals MVP
3/3 NE
3/3 Flags
GAJ isn’t fit to tie Dustys boots in finals.
I’ll give you my ranking later. I need a little time. But I answered some of it previously with the top 11 from 07-10 in the other thread.
In a team of superstars I'd pick Martin on a forward flank. You can afford to have an ultra attacking mid who can rotate forward in such a team. There are many others who will work ways.Check the team of the 21st century thread. Next to nobody has Pendles in the team, pretty much everybody has Dusty. Even Mr.Meow
I'd put Dusty anywhere, even the ruck as he'd easily account for Rhys StanleyIn a team of superstars I'd pick Martin on a forward flank. You can afford to have an ultra attacking mid who can rotate forward in such a team. There are many others who will work ways.

It sounds like you don't, which might be fair enough if only focussing on the period you watched (2014 onwards) but is a real stretch if looking at the 80s onwards or even the AFL era.

He wouldn't displace the best 10 midfielders this century in those spots, or be involved in anything other than a team you could confidently call dominant (like Richmond 2017-2020 in a finals setting).
So your analysis is just whoever won the most Norm Smith's? Brilliant. Why wouldn't you mention their other finals, is it because you can't Google to see if they were actually best on ground in those? Check out McLeod's performances in the prelims against the Bulldogs if you want a step in the right direction.Yeah Hodge, McLeod, Gary Ayres just off the top of my head. Multiple NS medalists, GAJ just didn’t have it in him to do what they did.

So it's all about NS. This is why JJ of the Bulldogs is ranked by all as a better finals player than Michael Voss, Tony Lockett or Ben Cousins were.
Ask anyone who Geelong's best finals performer was 2007-2010 and they go with GAJ. Same as Voss and Black for Brisbane, Hodge and Mitchell for Hawthorn, Martin for Richmond. McLeod for Adelaide. Carey for Roos. Buckley for Collingwood.Being one of 4 people to win multiple NS medals in the history of the game automatically puts you ahead of somebody has one/none. They are big game players that’s why they won them, as proven by Hodge against your mate.
Do you think people regard Hodge as a better finals player than GAJ? Do you?

Which stars can you think of who weren't their sides best finals performers?
Richmond had less "stars" so you can argue for 4 years that he stood out more than say Hodge did against Mitchell or Ablett did against Bartel. But it doesn't mean he was a better finals player overall. Especially once you take into account that he had 5 poor finals campaigns. He had the hottest 4 years finals streak. Aged 18-26 and 30 onwards he did nothing of note in finals.
