Very important cog in an undersized team. Improved as the game got going. His efforts at the death and clutch goal were the icing .
He competes well, is quick enough and would benefit from delivery to his advantage in a better standard. His kicking for goal is top notch. Another good one on this performance.

I hope they have offered him a contract cause if he gos the cupboard really is bare

Great signs with so few afl listed players.

Stephens knevitt dempsey all really good and neale i reckon could jag an afl debut soon at this rate.

Great job by our vfl guys too against an admittedly average brisbane side

Im sure we have offered him one its just if he wants to sign hopefully he doesnt want to go home as WA will be calling

Agree - but he's only 19 and definitely has the frame to put size on.
Has very good agility at ground level for a 202cm player - I'm a huge fan :thumbsu:

Really good win, after I gave us no chance as the Lions worked back into it following our early onslaught. Man, they have an ordinary list, when we can (deservedly) knock them off with a deficit of 18 to 7 AFL-listed players.

Cooper getting stronger and edging closer to a senior game.
Mitch was very bright early and then faded, but still showed plenty.
Whyte seems a bit lost for role at the moment, so I hope they work that out and get more out of him in coming weeks.
Stevens still doing more than enough to impress. Did stand up well under pressure in the backline in the last (apart from one shocking OOF), so that was a promising sign.
Neale doing everything you could possible ask of him. Takes so many of the opportunities presented to him, in direct contrast to the bloke he can't dislodge from the senior team.
Tsap is still miles off anything significant. But he did get more involved today, and can palm the ball to advantage on occasions.
And Dempsey just leave you speechless with some of what you see out there. I'd like to know the last player we had come through who generated so many 'what the?' moments in his first three VFL games. Just fantastic to watch. I think he's too raw to really make it in the seniors this year, but the future is so bright you gotta wear shades with this kid.

Very happy with the 'W', of course. But even more pleased to see the potential on show from quite a few of our recent draftees, with some of them only playing their second or third game in the VFL.

IWWT.

I'm probably over analysing but apart from his aerial work he seems a natural around the contest - doesn't panic , sits off it and injects himself at the right time and is prepared to tap it to advantage to gather a cleaner possession - that's a natural athlete at work , you can't teach that.
Similarly he just caressed that kick after the play on baulk , didn't rush or over kick and it split the middle from 40 on an angle :moustache:

I entirely agree. He understands where his body shape is at, recognises when the opportunity is there to take clean possession, and steers clear of just getting caught up in traffic.

And the two kicks for goal (the one off a step at the southern end, and then 'the Gaz' at the city end) were both just timed perfectly off the boot. Flew straight and true through the goals, without any arc or great deviation. Just kicks the ball really truly, more often than not. And both moments show how much (well-placed) confidence he has in his own ability. Just mad.

In the end, it's true that we don't know whether he'll really make it. All I know now is that there's just no way he's not at AFL level on any reasonable measure of talent. There's blokes who've played 100+ AFL games (and not just at our club) who haven't shown as much flair as this kid has in three VFL matches.

Ollie Dempsey I reckon compares pretty well at this stage with Ollie Henry - the difference is where they were taken.
Hate to make early comparisons, but geez I reckon he’s got a bit of Stevie J about him.

Let’s run Ollie Dempsey out v the Hawks on Easter Monday. Be bold Geelong.

We are not winning the Flag without finding something different from last year.

Dont expose him before hes ready but he shows good signs.

The boys played well. Shame that Kroger, Conway and Willis are out long term. It’s an incredibly worrying sign in a players critical development years.

First year Cats Toby Conway (hip), James Willis (knee) and Flynn Kroeger are progressing with their programs as the club bullet-proofs the young trio before letting them loose via the VFL.

Maybe they are playing it down but it doesnt sound too worrying to me. Willis maybe as the knee was a known.
