I am massively worried about the loss of Dempsey and Stanton.

I am too. I think we line up too tall, which is why Ryder's not selected, and presumably Gumby will be backup ruckman. But hopefully Jobe and Heps will have massive games, and maybe we can even give them some problems going forward. Could be an interesting game for the coaches.

Seems to be a bit of talk about how Geelong will have 10 players with 50 games and under against us tonight. Worth noting we had 11 in that bracket for anzac day and will have 9 with 51 or less tonight. Prob gets a bit over looked since age wise we're prob a bit older than the actual AFL experience would show with Gumby/Myers being injured a ton and other guys being drafted from the VFL.

If looking at average games per player it is worth noting Fletcher is worth 15 games per person on his own. Replace him with a 100 game player and things look very different.

Call me completely deluded but my expectation is that we will win relatively comfortably tonight. If we had Dempsey and Stanton I'd be tipping ANZAC day all over again.

In theory we should be able to beat them up in close which will bring our forward line into play. Seriously, they are lacking the one thing we have in spades and it is hard midfield bodies.

If we are getting the ball into our 50 they are going to have real issues matching us up which I why I expect we will use Goddard forward. They have problems if Mackie is going to play on any of Crameri, Gumb or Huely. It will keep the pressure on Taylor to play away from their forward line which has a clearly hampered Hawkins and inform Pods against Carlisle, Hooker and Fletcher (who is always going to be used to assist our key defenders). Either Hibberd or Fletch can play on Johnson while he is forward (although I would love to have seen Pears do it).

Reckon this will come down to clearances and ability to spread/cover opposition spread. Sounds simple. Is simple.

Think Hurls will be up for a big one, and Gumby will be playing for Paddy too and will take a bunch of marks.

I hope most of all that no team suffers injuries, and we get a sweet sweet footy match that takes us back 20-25 years. Both sides have got top mids and big forwards who can clunk.

ANZAC Day was great but Toovey dong his ACL in the 4th took some of the shine off it. We still would've won well but I hate injuries like ACLs and breaks and hate even more the endless replays of the incident that you see not only on the night but for the next few days. I don't care who they play for, those injuries suck.

I don't think it is unreasonable that Paddy is left out for reasons extending beyond injury/suspension. It is not unpopular to state that he should be having a greater impact on matches than he does - notwithstanding that he has been removed from or beaten for #1 ruck position.

Essentially, if this is as good as he gets, I reckon he's not fulfilled his potential - and I'm not sure when/if we're going to see more.

Don't misunderstand the comments - I love Paddy, he is all-Essendon, and we want him for our club only, but if he has to earn his place and it drives him to excel/improve, so be it.
