The Age has an interesting article regarding how under Harry Taylor the club totally focused on getting everyone primed for the finals. I know they've been saying bits and pieces but it does seem Geelong is the first club to really do this in a fully formed way.

Also nice story about the Hawkins bros.

I’m f*en embarrassed that this c* played for my club
I always used to hear from around the club that he was a fantastic bloke in person. He claimed that "Sam" was just an act and "John" was the real him.

e.g. when he was publicly bagging the shit out of our club as "Sam", he'd privately be putting in his own money and helping out behind the scenes during our tough times.

In a way, I feel kind of sorry for him. He reminds me of Malcolm Tucker from 'The Thick Of It': he's spent so long pretending to be this other person and putting on this persona that there's no "him" left anymore.

Danger and Smith were the clear best 2 on the ground, just comes down to what you prefer or what bias you put into certain aspects of the game.
Either would have deserved it, Smith was the lucky one and Danger likely couldn't give a **** about it.
They both have the real prize and it's the only one that matters.

I just think sam is trying to get some publicity since he can’t get a job in the media…I certainly don’t agree with his views but he has based his media personality on controversy so it’s not a big surprise to see him say this type of dribble

Sad really

Squad mentality! Been saying it for years. Selwood rested and the like and the reduced game time from midfielders worked well come finals. Coaches nailed it in 2022!

Watched the replay . I liked the aggressive intent to get the ball forward in that first quarter at any cost. They got it in, locked it in and then the goals came from that relentless forward half game. Some chaos stuff helped and they learned from previous game plan flaws in finals with chiparoo not working. Ditto early third whereby we ended it early with attacking intent !

Luck doesn't so much turn, as simply become irrelevant to the final result.

"Bad bounces" would be consistent across all games, on average.

When you're down by a goal in a tight QF where you aren't at your best, a right angle bounce that causes someone to lose their footing can literally be the difference between a win or a loss.

In an 81 point smashing, they absolutely still happen - they just don't matter. The occurrences therefore don't stick in your mind.

Luck absolutely can decide matches. But when a side is that dominant and playing that much better than the opposition, the bad luck is both irrelevant to the result and the observer.

So there would have been plenty of bad bounces in that game... but watching, you just aren't going to focus on it - because we were up by 10 goals.

Yeah I get that, for that reason it's not noticed as much when there. On replay it's distinct, not just ball bounce, things like shanked kicks just happily landing for us. The pies game, being the reverse, even up to the last five seconds, when Cameron is about to pick up the ball, and it bounces at right angles like it had done all game against us.
And while they don't matter -this time- in the scheme of the massacre, it's amazing to note. At some time in the next 100+ replays I might make a list. It's not taking anything away from our hard work, and the old adage you make your own luck.

In terms of norm Smith

If danger kicked the goal that DK marked on the line I would’ve given him Normy.

If SDK hadn't been there, it would have been a point... was a great moment, though - including Dangerfield's reaction to SDK getting the goal.

Great moment, but all in all I’m saying If danger had a goal to back up his performance, he would’ve finished the day with 2 medals.
