The theory all along has been to hope GWS hurry and win a GF as soon as possible with the thought a guy like Coniglio would find it easier to leave but it might be even easier if they drop down the ladder. If they lose this game to the Lions they then have a run of Richmond, Collingwood, Port, Sydney and then us.
They’re a chance to drop out of the 8 now

Leon Cameron must be skating on thin ice. They are a shadow of the 2016 side that run in waves and looked unstoppable at times. Not going to win the flag this year especially without Callan Ward, probably miss the top 4 which is a disgrace with the talent on that list.
Team has made no progress. Don’t see him turning it around either

If they’re serious about winning a flag as good as a bloke he is you can’t accept 6yrs without finals

They've just been treading water for so long. The start of this year looked promising, but now looks nothing more than a flash in the pan and some clever early season coaching, which has now been found out by clubs.

I don't think they have awful players, just their game plan and development hasn't done enough.

GWS are NEVER winning a premiership under Leon Cameron.
He is the single biggest reason they have underachieved. Surely he should have identified long ago they lack the hard nosed foot soldier types that allow the more talented to do their thing. They have always needed more Shiels or Poppy types that bleed for the team.

It still astounds me how Gold Coast and Western Sydney got AFL teams but Tassie got shafted

The Suns are an absolute rabble of an organisation. They are the Washington Generals of the competition
Spot on
The only reason tassie don’t have an AFL team is because it’s already a “captive” AFL market, according to the soulless drones like Gilligan at AFL house. No money in it blah blah blah. Forget all the champions Tasmania has produced over the years and how truly a national league we would have with them in the competition.
Yet they gift a license to such obviously unworkable locations such as Gold Coast and for what reason?
Broadcast revenue and fat cat bonuses.

Played in a game opposition kicked 13.1 we kicked 5.25 lost by 4pts
At one stage we had kicked 4.2
Hmmmm, doesn’t quite compute.

13.1: 79
5.25: 55

GWS I agree was a stupid move, but having a team on the Gold Coast in itself wasn't a bad idea it was the way they went about creating them which was.

Instead of granting an already established long time successful and financially stable football club with a large member base in the Southport Sharks, they decided to manufacture a team from thin air. It was a dumb move as you can see if you don't get things right from the get go it will take decades for them to truly establish themselves as a team before they can even think about working towards challenging for silverware.

The Port Adelaide model showed how it should of been done, bring in a strong state team with strong foundations and the rest will eventually work itself out. They just didn't learn.

That is sort of true. Southport should have been the choice if they put a team on the good coast but really history shows professional sports teams don’t work in gc. Most of the members of the gc are former lions members. They haven’t brought anyone else to the game.

Warming - Rant follows

It's allways about money
They (the AFL) look to American sport as the mecca of all sports.
Subtle difference here Gil.
Our kids may love the NBA and dress in all manner of American sporting gear, but we're not American
As strange as it may often seem, we have a different cultural mix and different values
We don't have the population to support the concept of picking up teams and planting them in a new place.
Especially when that place has little interest in the game.
The Suns and the Giants are nothing but soulless financial black holes, sucking the $ out of the competition and providing little by way of TV ratings.

And don't give me the crap that the game is growing based on attendances.
As a percentage of population attending games it been in decline for years.

End Rant

Its no coincidence the Giants have started looking shaky since Matt De Boer got injured.

Untill GWS and GC lose as much money a year then what 22 games of football generate in merch/TV viewing/gambling/all bases of revenue it was still the correct decision. Both areas eclipse Tassie in potential and considering the AFL still bails out Vic clubs every year they wouldn't put another team in a market which lacks growth. GWS is professionally run, had a few unlucky breaks in injuries ect.

GC are poorly run and have had a lot of bad luck as well.

As much as I don't like the Giants I totally agree. Losing DeBoer and Whitfield has seriously put a dent in their top 4 push but make no mistakes they have got 1st round picked kids in Caldwell, Hill, Bonar and more waiting in the wings ready to burst onto the scenes once their ready. Its like what TylerDurden said that if Coniglio was to leave then it wouldn't touch the sides 😂

Lived about 4 streets away from Metricon when I lived there for Uni and barely anyone around the joint even knows there is an AFL Team based there. Thought the stadium was rebuilt for the Comm Games. It's a hard city to enjoy living in too, so trying to keep the homesick players is near impossible. At least Sydney is a short flight to Melbourne

It's a weird city. Unless your a coke dealer/retired 50 something multi millionare i cant see the appeal

I moved to Adelaide of all places after spending 6 months on the Gold Coast , that's how bad a city it is haha

They obviously want to get Rowell and Noah who are best mates and are hoping that will be enough to get both to stay. If the league allows this then I can see a massive fall out with the other teams that will be push down the order. How many 1st rounders have they had and had players come and go again? The Suns were a mistake IMHO and I reckon a team based in the NT should've been looked at before the Gold Coast.
