Okay, so if we beat them it doesn’t indicate our side is full of A graders and Bucky is still correct in his list assessment.
I didn't say he wasn't correct in his assessment.

I said it counts for little if you've got a sweet list but can't turn it into a good team*, or words to that effect.

*I should add that it counts for nothing if you've got a coach that can't get the best out of that sweet list, so as to include GilWS (& others) in the same category.

The fragility on this board is astounding. If you don't agree with a media comment, or if you're distressed that someone doesn't rate our bottom four side, learn to move on and cop it on the chin. If you genuinely believe that Hawthorn is on the right track, and we have more than 2 'A graders', that will pan out over the next couple of years. Posters still bringing up Goddard's comments regarding Worpel's 'stalled development' is so cringy and childish.

Remind me again where we finished on the ladder while the Dogs made a grand final.

People really need to stop claiming these late season wins as some evidence that we weren’t a team that finished 14th with a percentage of 85%. Bucky’s assessment is spot on. We have some potential on the list - but do you honestly think we have some list chock full of A graders when we have just finished in the bottom third of the ladder for two successive seasons?

Agreed.

Not only did we finish 14th, but we finished 14th with a rush. We were embedded in 17th for a large part of the season prior to that late flurry.

Man, Pick 2 be sweet right about now...

We all talked about this scenario mid season when we were facing the bottom and potential pick 1. Anyone remember the day we handed the Kangaroos a win. 🤦‍♂️

Hawks Bigfooty was split and a lot of people on here were desperate to win as many games late, and forget about picks.

That’s exactly what we did and now we are faced with pulling a rabbit out of the hat to move up the draft.

The sooner the AFL move to a different draft system (lottery), that gives teams that play out the season a chance at an early pick, the better the competition will be forever.

To think the Bulldogs got Jamarra (best kid in the country) because he played in Warrnambool as a junior as a priority pick while they are contending for a premiership is an absolute joke.

If you are going to allow the best player in the land walk to a premiership contender because he played junior footy and was identified as a Bulldogs academy player then how could a draft lottery be any worse?

So the team that finishes 9th wins the lotto and pulls out pick 1……. Bring that scenario on .

A draft lottery would be absolutely welcomed. Add to that the scrapping of all zones/academies and bidding etc. Instead of bidding on academy players, they should be in the draft like any other player with the Qld and NSW sides potentially given a financial compensation by the league should a player from their academy get picked up in the draft by an interstate side. The only entitlement should be father/sons which should revert to their old form and not be a bidding process.

the best thing to grow the game in NSW and QLD is for young kids who watch AFL on TV to see NSW and QLD kids playing for big teams in big games - not playing in front of half empty tiny stadiums

Might die a little inside if Fremantle give the Cats more for Clark than we got for Hill.
Get used to it.

We tried to revolutionize the value of draft picks with trades(Hill, Lewis, Mitchell), but it backfired on us because no one else came with us on that journey.

Bingo.

The AFL bang on about these academy kids and tell us it’s only fair for the northern states that are dominated by Rugby. What a total load of gut rot.

All players that are ready or wanting to play footy and earn big money for doing so should be ready to go anywhere when they turn 18 via the draft.

Salary cap pressures are very different now so trading out draft capital and using cap capacity at the same time has become harder. Geelong were crazy to trade out so much last year and it will hurt them badly in the coming seasons.

100%

And top sides , say top 6-8 who gain a FA in must lose a FA out . Similar to NFL .

I would like to draft order based the average of the last three finishing positions. That way if you are shit for long enough you get better picks. It also doesn’t reward a team that has been good that drops for one year for whatever reason. It also gives more talent as you rise and less as you fall. For example Tigers average this year would be 4th.

Apparently they knocked back pick 17 for Dawson

Adelaide had organised a 3 way trade with the bulldogs
I hope Adelaide take him in the PSD

Did somebody say "**** Sydney"?

Everything that club does annoys me.

So entitled.

Wow - they must really get under your skin. Rarely do you have anything negative

I find Geelong recruiters similar in digging their heals in and it seems win 9/10
