One thing Hird seems good at is fuelling the Hird PR machine. "Stand by Hird" (note, not stand by Essendon, or stand by the players) was unbelievable.
He white-anted Matt Knights in spectacular fashion.

He had not coached anything except an under 9 team before putting his hand up for the job at Essendon. Replacing a coach that had got the team to the finals for the first time in 5 years and had 2 years left to run on his contract.
He convinced someone he should be head coach and have a multiple premiership winning coach reporting to him. What the ****?
He got dumped from the game but convinced someone to pay him $1m to do an MBA in France.
He's been charged with bringing the game into disrepute TWICE but still has multiple vocal media types saying they'd be happy to see him return.

"Happy for him to coach again".
But happier to see that than see guys that have been busting chops as assistant coaches for years get a crack?
The madness is next level.

In his defence his under 9's team were quite revolutionary , his players held positions rather than chasing the ball aimlessly all over the ground.

This is going back a long time but I believe dermie was one who was willing to forgive Justin Charles for taking steroids because he thought they might be beneficial for recovery from his injury. So in that sense, he has firm but appreciate a 25+ year gap between the two comments is a long bow to draw even for me

The best part of the brains trust allowing hird to come back into the afl is it will definitely backfire from a pr perspective even with the afl machine working in overdrive.

Will be genuine hate from 80% of supporters across Australia and it will snowball massively and rightfully so, he should never be allowed within 1000m of a footy club

If Hird is allowed to return to senior coaching, it's only fair that every player on that list (be it Essendon or GWS) is granted permission to terminate their contract without prejudice and immediately enter into the draft/FA period. Obviously the club would not receive compensation.

Clubs are required to provide a safe working environment.

Attempting to put a person with that history of abuse in charge of a group of young men - where he will have significant influence on their future career - is completely untenable.
