Well, yes. But they should be - they are rebuild veterans now and they’re about 4-5 years ahead of where we are at in terms of developing their list. Even then they only just rolled over a fairly unimpressive Richmond side. Early days.

It happens to all successful clubs. I was actually told with a straight face by a very senior AFL person that it will not happen to Richmond because they have excellent talent coming through. It simply does not work like that.

1. Some of that young talent is walking because Richmond cannot afford to keep them
2. They are into the phase of losing 2-3 premiership quality players a year
3. They are into the phase of carrying 2+ premiership quality players who are well and truly on the downhill slide - and the worst bit about this is that the players most affected are their very best players - Cotchin, Riewoldt, ...

It is fact that Richmond are getting worse year on year. They probably peaked in 2019 - maybe even 2018 when they lost to Collingwood in the prelim - that was the only year they finished on top of the ladder.

Richmond are done.

There going to the well once again with their 1 wood game plan from their premiership years in the hope that last year was an aberration. And with a renewed focus on their systems internally they believe there still capable of contending. It looked a bit redundant when you don't win enough ball throughout the game to make the game plan work and your leaders aren't capable enough anymore to apply the necessary pressure required. Going to be interesting to see if Dimma tinkers with it if we see a few losses coming up.

I feel for Ratts. The list strategy at the club appears completely driven by the club hierarchy and particularly Lethlean who are impatient and thought they were closer than they were.

By that, they haven't got elite top end, they haven't got elite youth, it's not that they have won flags and suffered for draft positions accordingly. They are not hyper athletic nor dynamic, they just dont have a plan, an identity, a heritage.

They are known for failure and mediocrity. They are St Failda.

I loved Daicos game tbh. It was safe and a bit of give and get back , but was clean and composed in his first AFL game .
Look a level above a lot of established players.

Every game I have watched this year the winner has been able to maintain a greater level of intensity than the other. Plus a bit more skill. Every game is a scrap...it's awful to watch...and goal kicking is even more important than ever.

I don't think people want him to fail, it's the frustration the media choose to only acknowledge the top 2 picks a chance to win the rising star along with pumping up every single possession they have. I thought he was very good last night for someone who has played very little footy in 2 years , the ball follows him . I Still think ward's pre season game was better then any of daicos's to date though.
