So they are making another AFL video game, which will undoubtedly be really bad but I'll buy it anyway.

There is a vote as to who the cover player should be and our nominee is Sicily. Get around him and give him your vote so all the salty haters who want to play it have to look at a Hawthorn player on their new game.

Really odd choice of players to choose from! Can you imagine buying a game with Nick Vlaustin on the front cover? Who even knows what the **** he looks like?

Let's make a Cricket game and put Shaun Marsh on the front.

Theory is to put an up and coming player on there. Odd one, I know.

Sicily won't win. If he played for another team he'd be often described by us as having a "punchable face". The fact he plays for us means there's zero chance the collective forces of every other club would allow him to even come close.

Bontempelli will win in a land slide. Is a genuine star right now and is also very likeable as a person.

Why the push to put an up & comer on the cover? Since it will undoubtedly change every year, why not go for the current "big guns"?

It seems like a mix of players on the list anyway

Ports representative is Chad Wingard - not exactly new to the game

Yeah, I probably should have taken a look, but I was asking based on one of the responses above. That'll learn me!:p

They mightn't remain members. There were numerous Gold Coast based Lions members who ditched their membership and joined up with the Suns and jumped ship. Parochialism is a big factor. If you go down to Launceston the team is promoted as the 'Tassie Hawks' on signs around UTAS Stadium. I dare say we would lose a fair proportion of those fans - particularly if the side got a decent chunk of games in Launceston each year. If the team was predominantly Hobart based - maybe not. That would always be a difficulty in basing a team in Tassie as the North/South divide in such a tiny state is weirdly fierce at times.

I doubt there would be a huge uptick in members because you got more games here either. I dare say the drop in numbers of Tassie members joining up to their local side would outweigh the Melbourne members joining up for more games. Could be wrong - just my feeling on it.
Yes but the net revenue per Melb mber increases with the need to pay other club for members to attended designated away entry games. We would end up in a similar financial position just with 5k fewer members.

I'm pretty sure that arithmetic is wrong otherwise the club wouldn't be doing it. The Tassie partnership is the reason we can afford nice things like planning a future-proof, world class training facility.

9 pm except Sunday's where it is 6 lol

But that is hardly of interest to young men on six figure incomes. Our clubs open longer hours than Sydney ;)

Yeah, I imagine the Coles closing hours isn't going to keep players in Brissy. Mind you, there isn't much that is keeping the players in Brisbane at the moment!

Note that my, somewhat hyperbolic, statements about Brissy come from a place of love being that I spent the majority of my life there. You couldn't be more correct about Sydney's nightlife though - was there in July and the place is dead after about 11 pm. It's a good reminder to anybody that electing a puritan as leader is going to lead to dancing being banned like in Footloose.

Under no illusions that he will win - would just be funny if we could get him to just to mess with the opposition fans who hate us so much.

Nah, Baird is just hankering for nostalgia. That's the time the pubs used to shut in Sydney in the early 1980s and ol' Bruce wants to bring those days back.

Probably up and coming in the sense that they still look like a child... also not sure on how endorsements work in AFL land, but 'new' players wouldn't command as much in royalties/etc. as say Buddy or Nathan Carroll.

Tassie represents less than 10% of our revenue, so not really. It would not be hard for us to replace them as main sponsor.
We do Tassie because it helped save us 15 years ago. I don't love that we have less true home games than any other club, but I do like the commitment that we have show towards the partnership.
