He left with our blessing in the end. We poached a zillion players over the last decade or so, we’ve done pretty well to have only lost a few in that time. In Smith’s case, I don’t think we would have had much use for a 34 year old wingman this year and probably takes a spot of a josh Ward or Weddle who we’d prefer to be pumping games into.Smith had a three year offer from us when we were down and chose to go to Geelong when they were up. This was after having played with us over our golden era and winning 3 flags.
There may be no loyalty left in football and apparently the players owe us nothing. But the act of turning his back on our club when things looked grim and going to our biggest rivals, who build their club on free agents and were in a window - will never sit well with me.
Good luck and good riddance.
Yeah, this always amuses me. Watching Freo v Bris on the weekend was the perfect example. Freo fans booing Lachie Neale whilst Luke Jackson was running around dominating, along with Jaeger, James Aish, and Jordan Clark all traded from other clubs. Never makes any sense to me, no matter how disappointed I get when one of our great players leaves and plays elsewhere. He left with our blessing in the end. I get the playful animosity whilst he was in Cats colours however now that he’s hung up the boots, it’s worthy of celebrating all he did contribute.
If you ain’t with us, you’re against usYeah, this always amuses me. Watching Freo v Bris on the weekend was the perfect example. We have terabytes of content on our board of other players we should try poach each year. Another club does it and the player becomes ethically the devil.Yeah, this always amuses me. It's all well and good to quote loyalty, but he said himself that he just wasn't enjoying his footy the last year or two with us. Is he supposed forego happiness just to appease people he doesn't know?Smith had a three year offer from us when we were down and chose to go to Geelong when they were up. Don't necessarily agree with that argument, I accept it if the player had been through tough times eg. Hodge, Mitchell tough then good or Bruest good then tough but Issy just up and left for a bitter rival when he had an offer on the table from us after just enjoying massive success, maybe we didn't have an alleged 'house and land' package.I don't like that he went to the Cats either, but he owes us nothing and made a choice that was best for him.
Dodo. And Dodoro keeps on keeping on… Teflon coated.
Dodoro and Mahoney weren't talking, was that the story? And Dodoro keeps on keeping on… Teflon coated.
When Dodo wins, everybody winsDodo.
I can’t watch Geelong games, unless they’re losing. At least now my Mrs will stop moaning whenever she watches geelong games
