I reckon Corey edged both of them that season. Can't comment on Harley making the team because I hate that guy and it clouds my judgement. We may have been on top at round 11 but by round 22 they were ahead of us by 4 wins and 30%
We were in a heavy training block in the second half of the season šŸ˜‰

I'm actually really concerned for him.
He never took a break after his son died, and that's when his weight ballooned ( a sign of depression/medication for depression)
Stepping away after such a long time of being busy can really rock people.
I really hope the industry supports him and keeps in touch with him
Yer agree and his worked in some pretty tough pressure environments after a really huge loss, but all those good people he worked with should be their to supportā€¦

And unfortunately/fortunately he has to learn how to have a break again, sometimes it isnā€™t easy

I can understand the argument where people want it in between the prelim and grand final.
Iā€™m not a fan of any bye weeks around finals. It ends up turning the week off earned by the QF winners into a disadvantage as it halts momentum theyā€™ve built up.

However a bye week should now exist ahead of the GF to maximize player availability and avoid any players missing due to concussion protocols.

The AFL should be looking into a new finals format that maintains an advantage for the top finals seeds but places the break after PF week.

Top 6!
Top 2 teams get the week off in Rd 1
Highest winner vs 2, lowest winner vs 1 in week 2
Grand final week 3

Add another game in the season so the networks don't get their knickers in a know, and we go from there

It has always been this way.

2008 - Cats 7 AA's, Hawks 2AA's + a premiership.

10 Geelong players were in the squad that year - that is just silly.

In 2010, Geelong had 6 players in the all Australian team, Collingwood had 4 or 5. Played off in grand final.

Hawthorn had 7 total make it during the 2013-2015 yrs combined

Funny there would never be a top 6, but they keep considering the 17+5 format which is effectively that

Itā€™s absolute garbage. I am surprised it has lasted as long as it has and isnā€™t on the agenda to be abolished
It gave bulldogs a free flag, so they are all in on it.

Anyone else think this week off before the finals stalls the momentum of the season?

I despise it, but I will just wait it out until, as it has been mentioned, a massive star of the game gets concussed in the preliminary final.

Then we will see no bye after last round and a bye before finals. They should just do it preemptively.

I have a feeling they will go with two byes (One after last round and one before Grand Final), before finally settling on just the one because the AFL always like to do things difficult.

The bye before the finals start is a waste of time imo.
So a club sitting two games clear before the last round wants to rest some players before the finals?
Good luck to them, theyā€™ve earnt that right.
I do like the idea of a bye before the GF, makes sense for a couple of reasons.
That said, if the AFL had a clue they would schedule something big in that spare week, like the final of a national youth championship for example.

I thought the bye came in because teams resting ****ed with the betting market.

I.e. someone (Freo?) was clear favourite in a dead rd22 match, but rested 14 players and lost.

???

It's no excuse. **** the betting markets!

Absolutely 100% true!

It's a disgrace that the need to pander to the integrity of the betting market overrides the need to consider the integrity of the competition.

It doesnā€™t really change things that much though. Geelong put all their players out to pasture in the final round this year and the Bulldogs would have been gifted a finals spot had the Giants not beaten Carlton. Meanwhile Carlton rested Cripps and were at half power against a Giants side with everything to play for. The Suns never turn up in the final round off the season regardless so thereā€™s comprises everywhere

I just canā€™t see any good reason for the pre finals bye

That's a disadvantage to finishing top 4. Leading into the GF, a team could find themselves potentially having only played 2 games in 5-6 weeks. Not ideal prep for a GF
