It's impressive how absolutely hateable this person is.
How'd he manage to insert himself into the conversation AND get defensive at the same time.
Footy classified is over its allotment of football journalists on the panel I feel. The best balance is 1 journo, the rest ex-players to relentlessly bully the journo and keep them in line.

Contrast that with Ben Dixon standing in in a few chairs and doing really well

Wait...did i look at that right?
The ONLY one that wasn't a football action, only
got 1 week because....He didn't hit the guy in the back of the head hard enough??
Remember when Cyril got two weeks for attempted striking.

McClure's blonde Lord Farquaad haircut makes him even more difficult to take seriously.

That's pretty awful in the "Grown men who have a child's haircut" stakes. Derm wore a teen boy's haircut for a few years, about ten years ago. McClure is looking to dethrone the king.

There was a post on Twitter about the most fairweather fans, someone replied Richmond #1 and Hawthorn a close #2. From a Carlton supporter. I don't necessarily disagree on the Hawks, though I do just think we're more a fan base that don't show up to games regardless.

I did decide to crunch the numbers and figure out based on home ground attendance 2000 - 2024 averages, what the difference is between the worst season and the best season for each club. Excluding limited attendance years in 2020-2021.

There are obviously some excuses for some teams in here - home ground changes and so on, but Carlton do seem to be the most fairweather fans in the league.

Tassie would need to be taken into consideration for us as well.

So someone called Lawson Humphries gets a rising star nomination. He plays for the cats. Has Calsher Dear been nominated yet? This is getting stupid
Both Dear and Watson had better rated games this week (according to AFL player ratings)

Dear possibly cost Watson a nomination with that touched goal (tbf - not touched). Quite a few highlights for a RS nom reel from the weekend.

Because of the positions they play they both need a 3-4 goal 10 possession plus game to get a nomination .

There impact though has been huge on the team . Especially Dear imo .

"Lewis, a superstar midfielder, said Clarkson tried to persuade him to join Gold Coast as part of the O’Meara deal, without success.“It seemed to me that this was all driven by ‘Clarko’ because he still believed the team was in premiership contention, and sort to control a lot of the movement himself,” Lewis said. “It was also apparent that Graham Wright wasn’t necessarily involved in any of these conversations. He was apologetic and a little surprised.“‘Clarko’ went a bit rogue for a while.”

Pretty fascinating that happened without Wright's knowledge.

What a great read, it rings pretty true with the stuff we already know but timelines it and singles out the major players both sides. Interesting to note the key players too, learnt a few things I didn’t know. Couple this with the Hawks for Change ousting Kennet and the dummy spit by Vanderburg followed by the racism report been a tough road for us supporters. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if I may quote the great Dennis Committi……. “All’s well that ends well.”

PS thanks for the link TD.

I had mentioned this a few times over the course of those last few years - there was a large difference between the two in relation to their ideas on the direction the club should take.

I also recall Wright sounded flustered that trading period to the media. Sort of bac tracking what we were saying in terms of Lewis, sounded all over the place with our negotiations with Melbourne etc, and they held us to ransom in the end and we had no bargaining power. Didn't seem like the ruthless Wright we had become used to, and we came across as unprofessional and unprepared. This backstory helps give context to that, because it seemed a car crash of a list turnover period.

Clarko went rogue. He burned the boats. Cost him his job in the end.

A challenging read, but have never been more solid in my belief that stripping away the figureheads was the best thing for the club. A lot of the more critical voices around the handover have been proven wrong, in my opinion, and I haven't been happier with the trajectory of the club in over a decade.

Sam Mitchell was cornered into rapidly turning over our list to the point where only 9 players from our Rd 23 2021 side are still at Hawthorn and only 7 played on the weekend just gone. He's managed to do that without handouts, while prioritising younger players and bringing the best footy possible out of them.

I often think about what could have happened and how long our peak could have been extended if we'd just kept hold of Jordan Lewis and Luke Hodge for a bit longer - Geelong's flag put paid to the belief that players over 30 need to be transitioned into retirement - but I can't help but be happy that things panned out the way they did, even if it meant some pain.

Clarkson needed to go, Kennett needed to go, Reeves needed to go. I'm glad we've moved on.
