How can nobody is talking about the byes this year? Last year, planning for the three bye rounds was one of the most popular points of discussion however this year I have barely heard it mentioned.

Are people now just picking the best players and ignoring the bye rounds? Is it not such a big deal after all?

It pretty much does. As long as you can get 18 players on the field, you're on par with everyone else. The only exception is a situation where you have 19 elite players available in one week, so you lose one of their scores. That's easily avoided, and is probably best approached by trading anyway.

Getting 18 on the field might not be as easy as you imagine. Last year I carefully planned around the byes but then a couple of injuries and omissions still saw me cop a shocking score in round 12 as I had something like 8 donuts.

Those starting with Ablett, Dangerfield, Watson, Pendlebury and Murphy might still cop a blow in round 13 when they are all missing.

there is one key to the planning which is very important - make sure you have at least 2 captain options (1 you want and a back up option) for each of the bye weeks, this is important!

cant imagine too many of them were very popular to start with - 3 at best appeal (not including any rookies which step up in nab etc)

from memory in my draft league Watson went at pick 7, Goddard pick 11-12 and Zaharakis/Ryder went in 30's-40's.

If it's a live draft there 3 are options....

- Draft order (Snake, Linear, Banzai):​

* Snake Draft - the order of selections is reversed each round​

* Linear Draft - the order of selections stays the same each round​

* Banzai Draft - the order of selections reverses in round 2, stays the same in round 3, and then continues as per the Snake Draft.​

Thanks for that, but how they determine the order of the first round. For example, for a 12 team contest, if you have Linear draft, how they know who will pick 1-12? Is it randomized?

It's random. So in a 12 team league if you have pick 1 in a Linear draft...you'll have pick 13 in round 2.

In public leagues the raw order (eg. who gets pick 1) is randomised. In private leagues, once the league is full, the commissioner can manually specify the order.
