Anyone know what the exact break even formula is? (I presume its the same from last year)

From memory it worked by dividing by 5...
Player 'X' is $575,000
To work out 3 game average required to stay same price:
575(k)/5 = 115 points

So if player 'X' first score was 100 and the next was 120, his break even score should be 125.
(100+120+125)/3 = 115

If the above is correct, how was the change in value worked out? I have tried to Google and look at older posts but i can't find any info...

Players at present are priced on last years average (with the odd injury discount)

Code:
name	price	avg	magic no.
Fisher	537900	99.23	5421
Birchall	509600	94.00	5421
Bock	508500	93.71	5426
Gibson	484900	89.45	5421
Houli	483700	89.23	5421

so over a 3 game period if they match that average they'll remain the same, if they beat it they'll rise, and if they don't they'll drop.

Fishers break even at this stage is 99.23

the rise/decrease is based on moving a % from their current price to their 3 game avg, from memory about 10% ???

eg Fisher is currently priced at 99 points (537,900), if he averages 77 points (*magic number = 417,417) over the next 3 rounds his price will move 10% ???? towards that number (537,900-417471= 120,429) *10% ??? = 12,042
price drop

from memory you also have to factor in the competition as a whole*, generally with rookies rising so quickly, someone priced @115 will need to average 120ish to stay even, as the total $ of all players cannot rise.

*more relevant in the earlier rounds

probably clear as mud, but you get the idea

Yep, this is pretty much it, however, to clarify the last point.

What happens, is after the salaries are all recalculated, the entire league (well, the people who played that round), have their salaries adjusted in order to return the league salary cap to what it all started the year as.

As you noted, early day, you get a lot of rookies playing, generally beating their priced average of 20, pushing their salaries higher.

You also get a lot of mid-priced players not playing, meaning that their prices don't get effected by the decay.

What's the net effect of that? In the simplest, most general terms- it means that if your premiums don't increase their average by 10%, they will lose value.

Thanks Walesy, I think I get it now.

So that would explain why you can't work out how much a rookie will rise from a 3 game average of 100 when the season hasn't started.

I presume this is designed so that someone starting to play Supercoach throughout the year can join and still fill a team as the player prices balance out across the board.

I spent a few hours on TS last night trying to find this info. ;)
Might need to get SC Gold this year. I was hoping there was formulas just to plug in my own spreadsheet to managed BE and Price changes. I'm sure someone has made a tool like this to help them plan their trades based on Rookie price rises of the last few years.

Anyone want to shed some light on how much $$$ they keep in the bank to start with? $1, ......50K or more??

In the last three years I've had next to nothing, then $100k the last two. The extra cash has paid off because it lets me recover from early injuries or fast drops in prices, but it's not something I aim for. I just pick the best team I can and then whatever's left over is a bonus.

Yeah, I don't publish the formula that I use. :)

That said though, have you played with the calculators? You can fill in what scores you expect players to make, and see their calculated price movements based on that.

Heck, if you really wanted to, you could even try to reverse engineer my formula through it :p

Hey fellas, looking for a defender to pick up with 397k. Had Dempsey but I'm not too sure on him. I'll give you a rundown of my backline for some help.

It's without a doubt the weakest position in my side.

Goddard Scottland Lids Lake Hargrave Wilks and need somebody to fill the last starter got B. Ellis and Bugg on the pine. Cheers

My advice would be to get rid of Hargrave, pick up someone like Brandon Ellis, leaving you with 551k to take one of Shaw, Fisher, Newman, Enright or Birchall.

Your taking a risk with 2 starting rookies, but you'll have 4 premium backs and plenty of cash cow potential.

I try and keep 50K in the bank for that reason, but any more and you could probably just upgrade someone. But if the team I want leaves me with nothing, i'll take it. Not going to change my team to give me extra cash, but if it happens, its a bonus.

it your side mate you can do whatever you want. But petrie and l think the other one is mitch clark are impact players there scores will be up and down.maybe some like a goodes/ROK/chappy or a buddy might be better.l herd zorko had a injury but herd he on bf could just be bullshower.skinner looked alright in those games or some like weedon.if you want a mid ranger little allen christian might be better than chris mayne due midfield role but has not played in the NAB cup yet.

Robbie Gray, Zaharakis, Lewis, or anyone else a bit lower?
Or should i get someone a bit cheaper than Docherty in Def and get someone like Chapman, Harvey or Beams in Forward?

If Gray spends more time in the midfield he would have the highest ceiling, but given his on going injury concerns it may be better to go with Zahaakis, his score shouldn't be that far off. I just wasn't really impressed with his NAB cup game. He looked to be fairly focused but just couldn't get invovled, which worried me.

Wouldn't be taking Docherty at the moment given he is still recovering from an injury. Take that extra cash and upgrade a forward, but not to Beams. Didn't play enough last year to prove he can maintain those scores.

Watch the NAB cup games and look for the players that look ready for round 1. No one really knows who the best rookies will be we can only speculate based on what we see, and hope we get it right. But there are players that always slip through mostly unoticed.

So far the rookies looking likely to play early (and that people will most likely be watching) are Morris and Ellis from Richmond, Smedts, Luke Brown, Mark Baguley, Spurr and Wilkes. They are the more obvious choices going round at the moment.

If you want to see what others are doing, have a look in other threads like rate my team, etc. This thread isn't really the best place to get advice on your team. Read what others have posted in the rookie, defender, midfielders, rucks and Forwards threads than create your team and let people critique it, in the rate my team thread. Best way to go for people new or inexperience in SC.

Zaharakis will ave 100 and probably be top 15 fwds, and i think Jordan Lewis will also ave mid 100-110 as a goal kicking midfielder. Chapmen would be your only choice i reckon to upgrade but, Harvey has his ?? and Beams well he has fitness issues but could be alright.

Lewis has never averaged much past 90, what reason would he jump up 20 points for? It is quite rare for players to increase that much unless they are in their first few years or have positional changes.

When people say they want Rookies in their team, do they mean actual Rookie listed players? Very new to SC/DT (started yesterday) so I don't understand why someone would want a Rookie in their team if they can't even play games... The likelihood of being promoted is dependent on a LTI and then on top of that they have to be the one selected? Is it meant to be a 'long shot' choice?

We don't mean rookie listed players we mean players which havent played a season yet, 1st year players mostly but also mature age 'rookies'

Nope, they just mean players who are basement priced (generally $150k or less) or are first year players. Most "rookies" that get mentioned are on AFL lists and are 1st-3rd year players who haven't played a game, or haven't played much since they've been recruited so their price is still low. Then there are also rookie priced players like James McDonald who get bunched in because of their price.
