Re: Cousins - Richmond??

No, no, no.

He's burnt his bridges. Wasn't sorry the first time and doesn't seem sorry now judging by the big grin on his face. The Eagles would be mad not to sack him and other clubs shouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. His AFL career is over.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

Dont think this would be a good idea..

Trying to set a good mindset to the place and this isnt a good start! Take somebody young as in a brennen or a bradley!

Re: No.9 For God's sake be BOLD

Don't touch him.

He is a damn good footballer and does know how to push past the bodies desire to stop and would love to have someone at the club who shows that example. It's just that the rest of his personality will cause major issues.

It is him that Polak and Judd left WA to get away from. Exceptionally bad influence socially and we would run a very high risk of having Polak backslide.

It is not worth the risk in this case. Would rather a potential breakdown in Whitnall by a long chalk.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

yeah that would be a great Idea, hay we should even cover his court costs and help him get what ever he wants when his on the inside.

Re: No.9 For God's sake be BOLD

I can't believe that some of you are actually thinking it would be a great idea to get Cousins. We are trying to build a list from the ground up and he is the last person we need anywhere near our club.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

Does anyone aseriously think teh AFL would let this guy near a football oval again? He has taken the brand back 20 years single handedly. Not only will he be banned for life the Eagles are looking at losing draft priviledges. How long will it take for Sydney to start asking questions about how they lost a GF by a point? This is serious deep shit people and not just for Benny boy.

Re: No.9 For God's sake be BOLD

It is this sycophantic behaviour that has made Ben Cousins what he is today. The fact that whatever he does people will turn a blind eye because he has great football ability.

The over the top reception he received when he played his first game back was truly sickening.

This guy is a cancer and unless someone puts him on the straight and narrow he will be dead at 41 like his mate Mainwairing.

I feel so sorry for his parents.

Keep him away from our list of young players

Serves them right. They took **** all action against him. His "illness" as that asshat Anderson liked to call it, has made a mockery of the AFL.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

AFL is the most forgiving, romanticised sporting code in the world.

He'll be sacked, then he'll come back for a year with another club.

Wasnt Wayne Carey forgiven for being the worst bloke in football?

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

Agree. Be interesting to see how the 3 strikes policy will survive now also. I bet there is a huge sigh of relief at Glenferrie also.

The thing is mate - he has never been caught with drugs in his system, so the AFL won't degregister him.

He admitted he had a problem, never was caught under the testing process, he went into rehab, now with this issue, being caught with a drug - he will be sacked by the WCE, but I doubt the AFL will deregister him.

Would I like him to be wearing the Yellow and Black - dunno, I can see positives and negatives - but what Ben Cousins needs is to get out of Perth, and come back to Victoria to have the support network of freinds and family - maybe then he can get his head right

Couldn't put it any better myself.

Re: No.9 For God's sake be BOLD

Absolutely not!!! The guy has had so many chances to clean his act up and hasn't, so why should he be given another chance at a different club? And for those that say we could give him one year with stipulations that if he stuffs up he gets the sack, that's a bit short-sighted. By then our clubs name is dragged through the mud and we're then labelled fools for taking the punt on him. I'm sure sponsors would love to be associated with us then.

Then there's the suspicions by the media and football followers in general as to whether or not he's influenced any of the other team members. And if you don't believe that would happen, you only need to look at how people perceive the entire West Coast list as well as Hawthorn's. Guilty by associaton. Problems that we certainly don't need after cleaning up our act with the drink driving and other alcohol related incidents in recent years.

True but a bit different
unfortunately this rule dosent exist

Rule 54.12a
Players are not permitted to bone any team mates girlfriend/spouse/wife/significant other nor will he be able to bone any other players from another clubs girlfriend/spouse/wife/significant other. Failure to comply will result in punishments handed down by the AFL and/or the Club in question

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

Who knows. Things might change for him with a change of states and club. We could get 5 quality years out of him.
The whole Melbourne scene could help him recover and he might be a real asset for us. Would be a huge risk though.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

Just what we need - a senior player who is an ice monkey mentoring our younger players.

Now who do you think was Cousins' mentor? From the looks of their closeness, I'd say it was the late Chris Mainwaring.

We don't want a legacy like that in our club.
