Re: Cousins - Richmond??

Does anyone aseriously think teh AFL would let this guy near a football oval again? He has taken the brand back 20 years single handedly. Not only will he be banned for life the Eagles are looking at losing draft priviledges. How long will it take for Sydney to start asking questions about how they lost a GF by a point? This is serious deep shit people and not just for Benny boy.

The AFL won't touch their precious interstate teams... seriously dount they will do anything other than fine them.

But I hope I am wrong, just suspect they have no kohonies at the AFL.

You are kidding no no no I hope he gets better but playing AFL football is a Privlage and he got a big head out off it and Played on IT!
i know what your saying i just cant help but feel sorry for his family i just heard on channel 9 the eagles are about to terminate his contract.such is life.

Absolutely no way. I'm sure the sponsors of the RFC would be happy let alone every mum and dad supporter, the general public, the AFL, the small matter of the other players....

Re: No.9 For God's sake be BOLD

Why should we listen to you? You said the exact same thing about Polak last year! :p

I think you've got the wrong person there, Benny. In fact, I was in eastern Europe for the first half of October in 2006, and if I recall correctly I was reclining on a beach in Turkey for much of that trade week. Didn't go anywhere near a computer.

My only slightly relevant reference to Polak I can find was from September 2006

2005 - Sydney - Kirk, JBolton, Mathews, Fosdike, Crouch
2004 - Port - Pickett, James, KCornes, Wanganeen, Hardwick
2001-3 - Bris - Voss, Black, Hart, Power, Ashcroft
2000 - Johnson, Johnson, Rama, Misiti, Hardwick, Hird

This model has yet to be superceded. Tuck is, for all intents and purposes, untouchable when it comes to a risky trade for someone like Polak.

And that was more to do with his (Polak's) lack of consistency at Freo than any percieved off-field problems. I had no idea of anything Polak may or may not have done off the field back then. That's only been revealed to me during this past season. And I stand by that above remark - I still wouldn't have traded Tuck for Polak. Or Pettifer for that matter. Glad he had such a solid year, though.

If you can find any other reference to Polak that I may have made that even slightly resembles a negative, then I'd appreciate you quote it for me. I've actually been one of his greatest supporters since his arrival at Tigerland.

I believe this is a clear case of misdirected animosity.

It's the end of the world! A toxic influence will infest the kids and our culture will crumble! Ahhhhhh!!

I have close friends who have played at the Eagles. Trust me when I tell you that this "toxic influence" is very invasive to their club's culture. It had a dramatic influence on these young men.

The Eagles are very fortunate to have had such brilliant footballers and incredible corporate support to offset this disadvantage. I have no doubt that a similar ingrained culture would tear Tigerland apart.

Re: No.9 For God's sake be BOLD

Very interesting article by Caroline Wilson in the Age today. Basically said that after the Collingwood semi, Worsfold accused Cousins of ripping the club in half and that it was his fault.

I'm gonna do a bit more speculating here, but it fits in with the punch up between Embley and Chick earlier this season. Cousins obviously has a group of players that follow him around and think they can do what they like, that they are better than the rest. This includes Chick, Fletcher, Kerr (has he changed though?), Braun and god knows how many of the young blokes. The other side of it clearly includes Embley. Hence why Cousins alledgedly "ripped the club in half," causing this devide. Judd, a highly self possessed man has said "I don't want a bar of this I'm getting out of here" and done so. Some would stay to help the situation, some wouldn't. That's his decision. It makes sense that Fletcher fell severely out of favour and Chick was axed when he still had a year or two left in the tank.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

True but a bit different
unfortunately this rule dosent exist

Rule 54.12a
Players are not permitted to bone any team mates girlfriend/spouse/wife/significant other nor will he be able to bone any other players from another clubs girlfriend/spouse/wife/significant other. Failure to comply will result in punishments handed down by the AFL and/or the Club in question
Not only does the rule not exist. There is almost a rule that it must happen at every footy club around the country!

Firstly he will be de-registered from the AFL.

Secondly anyone who says he would be good for the club have never played in a team game before. His effect on the youth of the club if not rehabilitated, would be like cancer. He would end up destroying the fabric of our club. Recruitment these days is as much about getting good people at a club as it is good footballers.

I wish Ben Cousins a speedy and complete recovery from his illness (drug addiction). This will take months and years, not 3 weeks in the U.S.

Get over him guys. He's not for us!

Mate, can't agree with you there.
There's plenty of blokes in my footy team/club with different traits/interests/habits. Some are drinkers, I'm sure some are into the other stuff also, but the common thread is footy. Any footy club has people from all differnent walks of life. If it wasn't for footy, I wouldn't have any reason to be mates with probably half the guys on our list. When we are all together we work together reasonably well, and we socialise to a degree also, but their habits/preferences don't have any influence on me, as I'm sure mine don't have on them.
Need to have a bit of respect for the individuals within the club. Sure, footballers are generally no rocket-scientists, but they're a pretty disciplined bunch, with a hell of a good support/supervision network also.

In today's Hun, Miller says Richmond could not say whether or not the club would show any interest in drafting Cousins. He would have to check with Wallace.

Well, only an idiot like Miller or a club like Richmond would show any skerric of interest in drafting a total troublemaker. Look what Cousins & Co have done to the Weagles!

And, so much for the so called youth policy, developing our own and improving the culture around the club. Miller just can't help himself when it comes to a quick fix.

Sooner Miller is moved on the better!

Ease up. All Miller has said is that any decision will be made in consultation with the coach.

Miller has been in "neither confirm nor deny mode" for months.

Re: Cousins - Richmond??

The thing is mate - he has never been caught with drugs in his system, so the AFL won't degregister him.

He admitted he had a problem, never was caught under the testing process, he went into rehab, now with this issue, being caught with a drug - he will be sacked by the WCE, but I doubt the AFL will deregister him.

Would I like him to be wearing the Yellow and Black - dunno, I can see positives and negatives - but what Ben Cousins needs is to get out of Perth, and come back to Victoria to have the support network of freinds and family - maybe then he can get his head right

Tiger, that is what everyone seems to be overlooking is that he has NEVER posted a POSITIVE drugs test. Would I like to see him at Richmond? Yes on the provision that he is MADE WELL AWAY THAT IF HE SCREWS UP ONCE he is OUT on his ass. It may be the best thing for him to get out of the Gold Fish Bowl environment that exists in Perth and a fresh start can often work wonders for a person.

McMahon fits in with his I cant help myself but jump at a quick fix

Or is it more a Wallace penchant to recruit ex Bullie players

Or both???
