There are lot of things that are in our favor too, don't believe its over yet. He has a relationship with Scarlett and Mooney, we have better leaders to help him and he would be out of Melbourne, much more relaxed down here. Never say never, we can always offer more money if required.

Being closer to his kids is what it'll all come down to, I'd say it's a 80% chance he is at the bombers in 2018.

Bartel asked Lucas about Lang being part of the Ablett trade said there hasn't been anything formal but there has been some interest from other Vic clubs

Big change from last year where he rejected Carlton. Sounds like he may go.

All true but distance to kids will sway it to Bombers maybe.

Plenty of examples where a player nominates a club but doesn't get there, and ends up at a different destination.

See Deledio last year.

Deledio was a different circumstance because he nominated us without checking how keen wells was and then when wells backed out he couldnt really go back to Richmond and gws were the only club willing to pay overs in trade picks and 3 yr contract so he didnt have many if any other options.

Very loosely mind you.

What are people's thoughts on going all in if they want Duncan and offering Duncan and Pick 20 for Ablett, Saad and Pick 2?

The only thing I don't like is that moving on Duncan (which I'be staggered with) flies in the face of winning a flag next year.

Pick 2 could land a Gaff or someone similar though.

Nah screw Saad and pick 2 would demand lynch..

Clayton - Did discuss Duncan as part of a bigger deal not just for Ablett but doesn't sound like that one will happen. Want's a player who will play not someone like GHS

Ghs will play for them look at the state of their list. Clayton is an idiot.

Saad discussed as being part of a possible multi-player deal with Ablett

Saad is very close to his family will only go to a melb club not geelong so that could only be a 3 club trade involving picks and players.

Just to flesh out the first part

I would much prefer Stringer/Smith over Rockliff. No doubt he has a strong ability to accumulate possessions and win clearances however I dont think he addresses any immediate needs, whereas Stringer/Smith do. You put one of those two next to Cockatoo and McCarthy and you have a high pressure dynamic forward line that can hit the scoreboard.

It is also clear that Menegola does his best work when he plays extended minutes through the middle. He has great endurance and needs to play a much bigger role through there next year especially if Danger spends more time fwd.

We arent winning a flag with someone like Blicavs in the team.

If he cant be very good or better at a particular position he should just be depth or traded.

I dont want a 4/10 player who can play a bunch of positions poorly id rather a 6/10 player who can play 1 position well.
Simplism at its finest.

Wingman, lead up KPF

I'd say small forward, small defender, wingman. All with pace.

We lack firepower and forward 50 pressure, so really good, quick, small forwards are critical. If we could get McCarthy, Gregson & Cockatoo on the park that would obviously help, as would adding in Ablett or Devon Smith.

We've also been vulnerable to opposition small forwards for a long time now. We've had gun backline over the last decade but it has been relatively tall and slow - Scarlett, Harley, Lonergan, Taylor, Milburn, Mackie, Enright, etc - which worked against the forward lines we came up against a few years ago, but not so much now. Most good sides have multiple small forwards these days, and now that Richmond has won the flag with their "mosquito fleet" other clubs will put even more of a premium on those types of players. Bews has done a decent job from time to time on the likes of Betts, but as soon as a side has a second or third pacy small forward we're screwed. Look at what Cameron did to us in the PF! I haven't seen a lot of Impey, but I know he's quick and if he can play a lock-down defensive role as well as provide run out of defence then I'd definitely be interested. Otherwise let's find or draft another player who can do that job.

Wingman - we've been exposed for lack of run on the outside this year, and if Motlop goes it will be even worse. Murdoch hasn't really lived up to expectations, and other than Danger our other mids aren't overly quick. We need one or two more players who have serious pace and good footskills.

Hawkins should be our lead-up KPF. I think he can play a role similar to Tom Lynch at the Crows, albeit in his own way. Every time he tries to sit in the goal square and wrestle it becomes too easy for the opposition to get a second defender to the contest, and he gets nowhere. Every time he leads up the ground he provides an option and looks dangerous. He's generally very safe on the lead (because he can get separation on his opponent and he protects the ball with his huge frame), he has a big tank (check out his distance covered stats during the finals this year) and he's a brilliant field kick. I'd have him constantly leading into the area between CHF and the middle, and delivering the ball into the forward line. Maybe the club should even set him a goal of having 3 times as many I50s as goals next year. Then you can play Buzza out of the goal square to take a few marks but more importantly make a contest every time, with our army of quick, small forwards buzzing around his feet. And if that structure isn't working in any game we still have the option of moving Hawkins back to the goal square as a back up.

No, he can't, and that's why he personifies the way in which versatility as a concept can be overrated. It can be useful, if a player is genuinely 'adequate' in multiple positions, but this doesn't relate to Blicavs.
Lets see where he finishes in our best and fairest then shall we...?
