As we are now getting into the season and we are starting to get a bit more serious with discussion, seems a suitable time to post the following as it's repeatedly shown itself to be a value reference tool in trade & draft discussion

And as per normal, thanks to Lore for putting this together - always a fantastic reference tool

And yes this post is now stickied - makes it easy to keep track of (can easily reverse this though if needed)

Do we get Duursma? Or what?

Player for player trades seem very rare now. Not like the old day. It would require a player at Port to decided that he wants geelong above all other options. In that situation ..we tend to look for Falcons.

The pick we get from Port will be questionable.... so at this time Im not sure what we get from Port or how they intended to make us happy. Even the article failed to realise that tehy may have 2 in 4 trouble

Such a weird time in Covid .. and I thought the recruitment of a pensioner hawk was another example of it. Instead he proved to be our best ever FA that pplayed well enough when it counted to win a Norm.

Probably in our top10 recruitment choices of the selwood era.

Well. Isaac Smith is retiring.
Note to self.
Never ever listen to your Mrs even though she knows his Mrs and tells you he’s staying on for 1 more.
Anyway Thanks for your contribution and all you’ve done Isaac for the Geelong Footy Club.
Enjoy your retirement !!

thats the point . we are three weeks from run and done . He should have signed by now just as Tdek has.
Parish is either happy to be on the way out or the guy's manager is trying to drain every last cent out of the Dons.

He is in a position where he doesn't need to rush and can use it to his advantage.

Fingers crossed it works in our favor... I'd given up on getting him a few weeks ago but the longer he goes unsigned the more that hope comes back... Hopefully it's not false hope but it probably is.

Ok, so what I'm reading here, it's a done deal, Sav goes to Port, weeks after he helped us beat them. Super stuff.
Dangerfield’s last Adelaide home and away game was against Geelong… I remember the crowd giving him a massive ovation when he had a shot after the siren.

But yes, these deals are usually years in the making, players are professionals and still give their all every week.

In my experience, if a good player is unsigned after July, they are gone. Exceptions were Andrew Gaff, and Motlop in 2015.

Yep that's why the hope is coming back... Far from a certainty though.

If the news comes out he has re-signed soon it'll hurt.

I'll be pretty confident if he hasn't signed in the next two weeks... Fingers crossed.

I think we should be chucking the kitchen sink at him to get him as a FA... It would be HUGE, we have the $$$

That is assuming McKay doesn't get to the Dons via FA... Still a long way to go but it's still possible.

With Izzy calling it, we get some TPP back in the pocket.

Probably not a huge amount, but its something for the kitty and not like its totally unexpected, but knowing its in the kitty makes the decicions easier for those throwing cash at anyone looking our way.

And if we keep that powerder dry, it can be pushed into next year presuming the 105% rule still exists.

Or Jack Bowes knows where his next pay check is coming from lol

Why on earth do we not keep Sav?
He has been needed all year, and is looking more assured each week.
I am starting to agree with you vdubs.

At the end of last season he was a very unproven back man who was showing potential in the position. In limited vfl exposure.

Now he has proven that he can play the position well at afl level. He is the right age for our list, and fills a position of need.

If he was happy to stay (this is unknown) then I am not sure why we wouldn’t put a serious offer in front of him.

Noises that Ken is about to get a two year extension
He should get that.

Port fans have very short memories - when he took over they were a basket case and he was the only one who would take the job. He has since rebuilt the team and got them in place to contend for the next few years. He has done a really good job and if he left would instantly be the second most sought after coaching option behind Hardwick (who is on a promise at Gold Coast).

Who would replace Ken at Port that would be a better fit and ready to win them a flag?

It would be madness to let him go now.

so did Buddy til his injury
Woah, woah.

A bit different with Franklin having played less than 20 games over 4 of the past 5 seasons, including 13 this season, and being on an obvious decline with goals/assists. Compared to Hawkins who has averaged 23 games a season over the past 5 years including 19 this year, is on the back of 4 consecutive AAs and has had no obvious decline in goals/assists.

I find this narrative a bit funny.

How many games have Sav and SDK played together? Pretty small sample to make any firm conclusions. What is it in particular that makes those two incompatible but not a combination that doesn’t include Henry or Kolo?

And why is it Sav that automatically becomes the problem? SDK have been below his best all year - with or without Sav in the team. If Sav is playing better footy, and you can only pick one, why is it automatically SDK? What happened to the idea of picking the player in form.

FWIW I think SDK will be a gun for us and play 200 games. And it will be moot next year anyway when Sav goes to port. But this has been pushed on here a bit without any rationale
It's based on their what they need to be successful as players.

Sav ain't a smart footballer, he needs the oppo forward to lead him to action and he needs to take the number 1 key forward for that reason. SDK is a smarter but inexperienced footballer, he needs the number 1 key forward for the same reason.

Whoever gets the 2nd forward will just get done because they need to zone off a lot more on a likely smaller more nimble player. It likely wouldn't be an issue if both had played 100 games in defence but right now we need to pick one to develop and the 22 year old premiership defender gets the nod from me.

It doesn't include Henry or Kolo as they're both much more experienced. They fit the system and they're more versatile.

There's a heap of rationale and it fits the outcomes we've seen on field though is a small data set

It's way more than a bit different, too. It's a lot different.

How did Parish come back into conversation. I thought it was a done deal he was re-signing but haven't heard anything since?
Whisper that McKay has ruled out Essendon, which rules in a free agency move out for him. Also whisper that the two camps are 50-100k apart and stalling

This whisper hit at the same time Brad Scott made some comments publicly about players playing for the club not money and if they don't want to play for the club they should leave.

I disagree with the kitchen sink approach. I don’t think it’s necessary, and future cap space is a massive asset… especially if we want Bailey Smith, Ben King or Sean Darcy in the future.

Hopefully

I'm not laughing haha, but at the simplicity of the response - and I agree with

I think Ratugolea will end up with a fun highlights reel to watch, but I don't see us missing him if he leaves

The game which confirmed in my mind we take a trade deal for him, especially if we could get a top 20/25 pick in return was the Adelaide match - I know he received the 10 coaches votes, that he took some strong intercept marks but the basics in terms of defensive structure & setup wasn't there, and he required direct coaching for where to stand, man up etc

He looked like a player with a lot of learning to do and that he'd hopefully benefit from time in the VFL learning - but those who've watched his recent have said he struggles with the structure side of things

Lord can't kick to save himself. Surely Duursma would be a wildly better target (that we are no chance of landing)

The main benefit though is that we get to yell "O LORD!" when he kicks it out on the full
Or when he slots an outrageous game-winning goal from outside 50 after the siren.

Just a brilliant name for footy, really.

1 & 2 and the rest will follow. Spine first I’d say, but some see it another way.
It will take 2 years to get enough backline games into the paid to make it work. We are turning over the whole midfield by then.

If we go into next year and the year after trying to solve a midfield transition and backline structure problem at the same time we'll be a basket case

They were but it's not 2019 anymore. He's too close to the players to make objective decisions. He needs to be gone
