The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

I don't see how GFC need to necessarily lose players in this trade season - have absolutely cracked the code in recent years on building a premiership winning squad with duality of both healthy pressure on selection integrity and player development afforded - rising tide lifts all boats and all that

I thought that talking in 3rd person was going to be a suitable shield! Yep, I’ve been on BigFooty since 2006 (that means I started when I was 9). Been hiding my Cats allegiance for bloody years. No wonder I went on a few benders…

Won’t be either of those two if we have to shed a player or two. I’m thinking Atkins or possibly Kolo. Doubt it though.

Miers will stay at Geelong for life.

Kolo is needed due to kpd issues we have and him and Atkins wouldn't have much trade value due to age they are keep for a year or two (even as depth) then retire. Someone like O'Connor might have better trade value (if fit next year).

Sdk is going nowhere this year but is a watch next year depending on where his brother goes.

I can see clubs coming for close next year I'm open minded on that depending on what we are offered. I can see both Port and Adelaide chasing him. He's a very good player but a small forward is probably the position we can best cover.

I think if we get Smith and Oliver and both work a couple of the depth mids (knevitt and clohesy the obvious ones) will probably look for gametime elsewhere but that would more be the end of next year than this year.

And we still have the ruck and kpd issues to solve.

I’ve no doubt Oliver wants to join Geelong, but as McClure alluded to knows it may be difficult to happen. Contracted to 2030, roughly $1.3m a season, I think the Cats just sit back now, it’s in Melbournes court.
