Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

As normal, would like to acknowledge & thank Lore for creating this, keeping it up to date and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Always loved Macrae but..
Not sure he improves us
Definitely stall development for a young mid

Simply a year too late.

Going into this year he might have been handy but too much has changed:
  • Guthrie is on the mend with 1 year contract left
  • Danger wants two more
  • Smith is a likely inclusion
  • Holmes/Bowes/Bruhn had breaking out years
  • Stewart has position flex as a midfielder now
  • Clark is a developmental prospect
  • Atkins continues to be Atkins

I agree, I just don't see a role for McCrae. Where would hit fit?

Macrae was always going to look to get out of the dogs.

The dogs were always going to look to move Macrae on.

It’ll be interesting to see if he goes in a Bowes type deal or if someone actually gives something for him.
Probably depends on how much coin he is on (Reports he has ~$2mil left over 3 years) and how much WBD are willing to pay. But from reports it is Macrae asking to leave rather than WBD pushing for a trade (although they're probably ok with freeing up the cap space). So it's not really similar to Bowes in that regard.

Curious where he goes. Still a decent player, but probably best on the inside and not sure we can guarantee that, but also can't think of an obvious landing spot. If he could play wing/HFF, I think he'd be handy pickup.

Davies had >15 CBAs in each of the last 3 matches of the season. So it's not like there isn't some evidence that actually will play him in the midfield next year. Granted, their season was over by then, so maybe he was just experimenting more. But perhaps also an eye to next year.
Yeah fair enough, i hadn't been keeping tabs on the late part of the year.

I can’t see how we get anyone other than Smith and even that will be tough. We don’t have the picks unless we’re offloading players.

There was a rumour floating around a month or two ago that we might trade SDK.

It was from a Norf twitter nuffy though. A step down from even the least trustworthy of BigFooty rumours.

Plus, it was under the assumption that we were trading up to get Finn O'Sullivan, not to get a better pick for Bailey Smith.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

We ran nine blokes through the midfield last Thursday, I’m sure we could find a spot for Macrae. Especially with guys like Tuohy, Duncan, Bews on the way out. He might not take their spots, but magnets will be shuffled.

A lot of people said the same thing about Isaac Smith and that turned out very well

I’d be looking to bring someone in with more genuine pace than Knevitt to play wing. Reckon Knevitt is either an inside mid that has the ability to take a mark around the ground or he just doesn’t make the team. Challenge for him is to step up to AFL level. Atm he looks lost in the seniors.

He was good against Essendon but like most failed against dogs. Was going fine against saints till they moved him to half back which was very poor coaching considering I doubt he's ever played or been trained for that role
