Here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Cheers to Lore for their hard work in setting this up, and making it available for all users on BF to use and keep track of the picks ahead of the upcoming draft - and please practice patience grasshoppers if it's not updated in the immediate aftermath of completed trade

I'll also sticky this post to ensure it's easily accessible for discussion of our hypothetical trader

Also,

2024 Free Agency Period

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm

I actually think thats all fair.

Won't happen. But fair.

No way that Baker is worth more than Houston and if traded on his own there's no way Owies is netting Carlton a first round pick

The scenario is favoured too heavily in Richmond's favour and against a team like Port

Geelong list boss Andrew Mackie calls out St Kilda president Andrew Bassat following compensation call.

“The Saints landed pick No.8, while the Giants netted pick No.16.

As a result, the Cats’ first pick shifted back from No.15 to No.17, which weakens what they can offer the Western Bulldogs for Bailey Smith.“

I really think if the Oliver deal does not happen we should look at Parker. Parker and smith would add enough midfield strength for us to be more competitive for at least next year and not sell the farm at the same time. I don’t see how Duncan gets a game if the smith deal goes through either so could use some of his wage. Parker may not be what he was but tagging in and out of the midfield with danger could be effective.

Trade week* is an entertainment product.

That’s it. That’s the post.
This thread and the multitude of posts without a single gun being fired, Jack Martin not worthy of the gun at this stage, is testament to that premise (there was an ESPN show called the jump that fired a cannon on every free agent signing one year which is where the gun reference comes from).

AFL just needs to somehow find a way to fill the December to January graveyard and it will be a 24/7 365(6) days a year entertainment product like the NBA.

Luke Parker?

He's going to North - they need him as much for the experience & leadership as anything else

Ted is lucky, early reports had him not getting another contract. Thought he might become steak knives in the smith deal.

Which early reports?

Krock have had him as re-signing since our delisting announcements

In re-signing news

Quartet of Cats sign on

Geelong have received a quadruple boost with Jake Kolodjashnij, Jed Bews, Lawson Humphries and Ted Clohesy signing new deals with the Club.

What is going on with b smith and j martin??? Its like cricket churps still down at geelong

Martin won’t be official for another fortnight I think when delisted FA’s are able to be signed up.

Smith will be confirmed about 30 secs before trade week is due to finish for the “theatre”…. 🙄

We should be all over him, allow him and Dangerfield to change out of the forwardline

We don't need list cloggers. His only real strength is that for an average mid he's an ok forward. But we've got much better forwards and he's not going to improve any midfield.

If Smith, Bruhn, Clark, etc don't easily go past Kennedy we've got serious issues.

Trade week should honestly be 3 days...And the clubs meet and negotiate prior as they literally do already.

2 weeks is more about revenue than anything.

My entire lunch break is over and all i got to listen to on the trade radio app is how amazing continental tyres are....

Martin is enjoying his off season holiday until such time that the DFA period opens and he can formally sign on

The Smith deal has most likely already been agreed to but the powers to be at AFL House have asked the two teams to hold off on any announcement as it'll make the next week boring if there's nothing to talk about

Can be hard at times to remember that the AFL is first and foremost a business and one in the business of entertainment... Not too dissimilar to WWE but with the exception of the on field games not being staged, but the goals of sports entertainment and revenue aligning
