Any news on whether sale has signed the big names the believe they are going to get?

As far as big names go Gene VanDerzalm and Ben Stoertebecker could be interested. Both have played over at Churchill and have more than four letters in their names. Meeniyan FC could be in contention for this package if they move fast.;)

Do all clubs have a coach for next year?
Maffra - ????
Drouin - Ben Soumalis
Traralgon - Josh Jennings
Morwell - Adrian Cox
Leongatha - ??
Moe - (Whisper is Leigh McDonald)
Sale - Nick Anderson
Wonthaggi - ??
Warragul -??

Can anyone fill in the question marks??

Bairnsdale push to join the league is gaining serious momentum.

Some big meetings to be had over the coming days and weeks but it's looking like it's full steam ahead for the Redlegs.

would anybody consider jumping on board? coin not a problem from what I am hearing..

I am hearing that they will not have a reserves side - what do you do if you don't get a game in the seniors? If you go back to a local side it has the look of a regional side but going under the Bairnsdale banner. This may alienate some supporters who would support a regional side but not a Bairnsdale side.
Anyway I hope it comes to fruition - it will be good for the league.

Yeah there would be no reserves team.

I think the GFL's long term plan is to have no reserves at all and perhaps use Bairnsdale as a test dummy for the whole thing..

Say you played at Sale/Maffra and didn't get a game in the Seniors, you'd go back to a Sale City/Stratty or someone to play.

You're right though, I don't know how kindly many of the EGFL and NGFL teams will take to the idea..

I don't know how it's all going to work but that's the long term plan "apparently".

I doubt the GFL has a long term plan given that they are in the process of changing from being run by club delegates to a board of directors!

probably says a lot about the aforementioned "plan" then.

I'd love for it to happen and work but I really don't think it would.

maybe for Bairnsdale, but not for the entire league.

ps. if Bairnsdale are accepted into the league, I'll be backing them to win the flag.

Really Bourkey?? Who are they going to pick up to be able to match it with the top teams??

That is a massive statement to say in October.

As I said, if they are accepted into the comp, coin won't be an issue..

They'll have the funds but they'll need to secure a big name coach/player to attract others.

I don't know what most clubs spend in the Gippy league but the figures I'm hearing would have them rivaling some of the better Ovens & Murray/Goulburn Valley clubs.

Money isn't everything though, they need a well respected coach who will attract players.. A lot of quality Sale/Maffra players in particular will be pretty heavily targetted I reckon. (haven't heard anything to indicate that'd be the case, just a gut feel) but there will be plenty of offers made to blokes that will be too good to refuse.. great new opportunity for many of Gippsland's best footballers.

The GC17 of the GFL if you will:p

A large number of the Bairnsdale district's best juniors are already playing at Maffra in the U18's and 16's so they would be used to the standard.Guys like Simon Deery, Sean Wyatt and Clay Smith ,if they don't get drafted from Power should be ready made senior players you would think .Even in the Maffra U/16 names like Devon Cooper and Nick George wouldn't be too far away either. Darcy Thorpe who played senior football at Sale as a 16 yr old is back down that way i believe so he would be targetted as well you'd reckon.

if bairnsdale are accepted and voted in by the other clubs, they should come in under the same rules as everyone else! for them to have the pick of a whole league and have no reserves is an absolute joke! im sure all the other clubs would love a whole league to pick there senior 21 from! im tipping they are only gunna be in it for the short term then run back to east gippsland when the novelty wears off in about 5 years time! remember they were in our league about 12 years ago and were pathetic, demographics is and always will be there biggest problem! bairnsdale to wonthaggi....no thanks!!!!

Already been spoken about last year that this will not happen and they will play games against each other in Morwell. I think any way we can get them in the comp will be a good thing. If you're going to call your competition the Gippsland League, it needs to be representative of the largest regional centres in the area and locking Bairnsdale in would secure that, get rid of two byes for each team every year and make a perfect sized ten team comp. whether they're successful or not will depend on who coahes, leads and administers them. if it's done properly, then there is no reason why they shouldn't be a force in years to come. I doubt there will be any one in Leongatha who rejects the proposal and they will be the one's with the longest road trip.
