Re: Gladiators

Yes please to both Gladiator's and It's a Knockout.

I remember when Channel 10 used to show It's A Knockout at 6am Saturday mornings. Always fantastic viewing!!

Australia

An Australian version of It's a Knockout ran on the Ten Network from 1985 to 1987. The teams were divided into the Australian states: New South Wales (NSW), Victoria (VIC), Queensland (QLD) and South Australia (SA). The show was hosted by Billy J Smith along with Fiona MacDonald for the duration that it aired in Australia. They would arrive to the show in a golf buggy. The show was filmed in a field in Dural NSW, however due to numerous complaints from local residents the show was forced to be canned by 1987 [2]. This version aired in Mexico on the TV Cable Network Multivisión and was a success during 1992. It was also adapted and shown on Argentina as Supermatch. This version was heavily edited, and the anchors were replaced by off-screen commentators.

Re: Gladiators

it'll be shown Sunday at 6.30pm I'd imagine.

Sunday night is family night on the box, with shows like Where Are They Now?, Australia's Got Talent and Aussie Idol absolutely caning it in recent times. Saturday night would also be a logical night, but I can't see Seven putting something like Gladiators on a low-viewing night when it has the potential to be an absolute winner. I imagine the production costs would be sky-high as well, so Seven would be looking to target the largest possible audience

between today's kids, their parents, the over-55s (my nan loves this sort of shit) and 16-25s like me who grew up watching it, anything upwards of 1.5 million is possible in the right timeslot

Re: Gladiators

I also have fond memories of watching Gladiators as a youngling. I also, like many of you, have memories of doing various Gladiator challenges with my brothers and friends :p I look forward to the new series!

I imagine it will get the 6:30pm Sunday timeslot, to get the "family" audience. I know the previous series was on Saturdays but Australian networks are too tight these days to put a show with costs like Gladiator on a Saturday.

As for It's A Knockout!, I also remember watching repeats of that show at 6:00am on Saturdays. WA wasn't in it, so I went for Victoria because their team was blue and my school sportsday faction was blue :p

Re: Gladiators

Remember Vulcan? Remember Wolfman (a UK gladiator in 'The Ashes' mini-series)? It turns out after the Australian show was cancelled that Vulcan was picked up for the UK show, and they continued their rivalry. Take a look :thumbsu::

Apparentally it's back on in the US, so surely it can't be too far away from coming back to Australia.

Will the likes of Vulcan and Condor still be competing as Gladiators? Will Mike Whitney and that other former Cricketer be refs again? Will SEN personality Tony Schebeci remain in the commentary box?

I must have been nine or ten when this was on.

Is anyone as pumped as I am about a possible return of Gladiators to channel seven?

Re: Gladiators

Gladiators and It's a Knock Out are my two favourite game shows of all time. I am really pumped for Gladiators returning.

Gladiators used to be on at 8:30pm Saturday nights, after another game show Man-oh-Man. I used to play hang tough on the money bars at school, and duel on a beam. We also used to have courses for eliminator.

Those were the friggen days.

They need to bring something like It's a Knock Out back. 6am Saturdays is too early, though - although I used to wake up every Saturday morning as an eight year old and used to do push-ups, sit-ups and star jumps while it was on. Don't know why I remember that.
